Ode (@thatsod.e / @thatsod_e) and Mo "Kid" Licorish (@licorishislegit) examine Netflix's three‑part documentary Michael Jackson: The Verdict and interrogate why the documentary arrived so close to the new Michael biopic, which the hosts cite as a major box‑office event. They name Leaving Neverland and Wade Robinson while contrasting contemporary documentary coverage with past court records from the 2005 trial, and they place the doc amid broader culture‑war threads including the Diddy and R. Kelly documentaries and the persistent Epstein files. The hosts debate whether The Verdict is illumination or a cynical rage bait / cash‑grab, weigh how Michael's fame and race change public response, and describe the documentary's effect on victims, family legacy, and music consumption. The segment closes with measured ratings from both hosts and an ethical note on recurring re‑examination of historical allegations in popular media.
www.patreon.com/theconspiracypodcastPart 1 was the rise. This is the fall.We pick up in the '90s, when the world that had made Michael Jackson started turning on him. The tabloids had a field day. The hyperbaric chamber. The Elephant Man's bones. A baby dangled off a balcony in Berlin. One by one, the story of the greatest entertainer who ever lived began to curdle into something else entirely. Then came the allegations.A dentist who drugged his own kid to get a confession. A $20 million demand to stay quiet. A 2003 documentary that aired to 48 million people and changed everything. A trial with 14 counts, a circus outside the courthouse, and a jury that came back not guilty — on every single one.And then, four years later, a rented mansion in Holmby Hills. A doctor on his phone with a cocktail waitress. A call to 911 that came 90 minutes too late. And the most famous human being on earth, gone at 50.We get into the death, the theories, the $400 million lawsuit still pending, and the question nobody has a clean answer to — was it negligence, a cash grab, a conspiracy, or all three? We also give you our takes.
Megyn Kelly is joined by Mark Geragos, co-host of "In The Well," to discuss the new Michael Jackson movie "Michael" dominating the culture, the controversy over his legacy back into the spotlight, credibility questions surrounding his accusers, the phenomenon of representing Jackson at the trial, the abuse Michael Jackson suffered throughout his childhood at the hands of his father, the truth about the completely unique level of fame he achieved, the various child abuse allegations made against Michael Jackson, why the accusations remain so difficult to assess years later, major questions surrounding the accusers featured in "Leaving Neverland," the changing story we've heard from them over the years, and more. Then Matt Murphy, co-host of "In The Well," joins to discuss the shocking 2003 interview moment of Michael Jackson talking about kids, how the comments fueled public backlash and legal scrutiny, Blake Lively's lawyer attempting to spin her client's brutal legal loss after she settled for no money, the remaining battle over attorney fees, why Blake Lively's legal strategy against Justin Baldoni was doomed to fail, whether her lawyers are trying to cover their own failures now, and more. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
The mothers are the part nobody talks about enough. Joy Robson moved her family to Los Angeles because Michael Jackson told her to. She left her seven-year-old son alone with the most famous adult on earth and felt lucky about it. If Robson is telling the truth, that mother has to live with the knowledge that she handed her child to someone who was hurting him and smiled while she did it. That kind of guilt doesn't need a lawsuit to be real. This episode covers Wade Robson and James Safechuck — the two men at the center of Leaving Neverland and the upcoming civil trial. I go through the relationships from the beginning: how Jackson found them, how their families were drawn in, and how both men publicly defended him for decades before reversing everything. The documentary that won an Emmy and was then pulled from streaming. The factual challenges — including the train station timeline that doesn't add up. The estate's aggressive legal response. And the grooming psychology that either explains the decades of denial or provides a convenient template for fabrication. The question this episode leaves you with: does a financial motive eliminate the possibility that abuse actually happened? Because those two things aren't mutually exclusive. And sitting with that is deeply uncomfortable.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? “Michael”—a new film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, charting Michael Jackson's rise to fame—just had the best opening weekend in the history of bio-pics, proving that audiences are still eager to celebrate the King of Pop. The movie also ends, pointedly, before the first in a series of allegations of child sexual abuse that have tainted Jackson's reputation ever since. On this episode of Critics at Large, Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and their fellow staff writer Kelefa Sanneh consider how the unprecedented highs and horrific lows of Jackson's life and career have made him a prism for modern ideas about stardom and power. Sanneh's recent Profile of Fuqua details the Jackson estate's involvement in the production, which resulted in a sanitized portrait of a deeply complex figure. Other works have assessed Jackson's legacy more critically: the 2019 documentary “Leaving Neverland” lays out, in granular detail, the claims of two of Jackson's accusers. “It's just such a dissonance, seeing these two texts in such close proximity,” Fry says. “The thing with ‘Michael' is, it doesn't separate the art from the artist. It separates the artist from the wrongdoing entirely.”Read, watch, and listen with the critics:“Michael” (2026)Michael Jackson's “Thriller”Michael Jackson's “Dangerous”“The Action-Film Director Who's Taking On Michael Jackson,” by Kelefa Sanneh (The New Yorker)“Quiet on Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV” (2024)“I'm Glad My Mom Died,” by Jennette McCurdy“On Michael Jackson,” by Margo Jefferson“Leaving Neverland” (2019)Michael Jackson's “Off the Wall”“Justin Bieber, Pop Music's Fallen Angel, Rises Again at Coachella,” by Vinson Cunningham (The New Yorker)New episodes drop every Thursday. He's living in a nightmare. That's what the eldest son of the late Rob Reiner is saying. For the first time... He's speaking about his family's unimaginable anguish. His younger brother Nick has pleaded not guilty to murdering their parents. And former University of Michigan coach Sherrone Moore was fired after his assistant came forward saying she was having an affair with the married coach. Now she says... He was so angry... She feared for her life. Plus, the Michael Jackson biopic opens today... And is expected to be a big hit. But the fact that the movie ignores the sexual abuse allegations... Is not sitting well with one filmmaker. Dan Reed directed the bombshell documentary "Leaving Neverland". He says Jackson was worse than Jeffrey Epstein. And two women say they've waited decades for justice. A teacher from an elite private school is now charged with grooming and raping them when they were students. And the arrest may have never happened... If not for the persistence of his two accusers who say he took their innocence. The teacher has pled not guilty. A 10-year-old California boy, James (Jimmy) Safechuck, is hired to appear in a Pepsi commercial alongside Michael Jackson. In Leaving Neverland, Safechuck says that Jackson befriended him and his family after the ad began airing, that the singer was immediately generous to him and allegedly began lavishing him with gifts — including, Safechuck says, his jacket from the "Thriller" video. Safechuck and his family also say that Jackson began flying them for visits and on vacations. On one such trip to Hawaii, Safechuck alleges, Michael Jackson first asked the boy to sleep with him in his bed. August 1993: Los Angeles police begin investigating Jackson The Los Angeles Times reports that the LAPD has begun investigating Jackson based on allegations that he possibly molested four children, including a 13-year-old boy. (The boy is mentioned by name and in photos in Leaving Neverland.)
Twenty-five years of sworn defense. Testimony at the 2005 criminal trial. A memoir declaring innocence. Oprah appearances attacking other accusers. Now the Cascio family—all five siblings—has filed a federal lawsuit alleging Michael Jackson drugged, raped, and trafficked them starting when some were as young as seven. This Hidden Killers Week In Review breaks down the credibility collision that could reshape the Jackson legacy. The Jackson estate is calling it a $200 million extortion scheme. The Cascios already received a settlement reportedly worth over $3 million after "Leaving Neverland" aired—then allegedly came back demanding $213 million more. The estate's attorney Marty Singer points to emails where the Cascio legal team allegedly threatened to leak allegations right as Sony was finalizing a $600 million catalog deal. The Cascios say they were coerced into that 2019 settlement while still processing trauma. They claim watching Wade Robson and James Safechuck finally made them discuss their experiences and discover they had all been abused.Former felony prosecutor Eric Faddis joins Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke to examine the legal landscape. How does 25 years of defense testimony affect credibility? What does it take to void a settlement you already collected on? Why does the estate want private arbitration so badly? What does the federal trafficking statute actually require? There's the fake tracks scandal—brother Eddie sold songs that the Jackson family says weren't Michael's voice. Sony removed them in 2022.And the attorney flip: Mark Geragos defended Jackson in 2003, called "Leaving Neverland" an "absolute travesty" in 2021, and now represents the Cascios arguing Jackson was guilty.Michael Jackson was acquitted in 2005 and denied all allegations. The Cascio family spent 25 years as Michael Jackson's most vocal defenders. They attacked other accusers. They called themselves his "second family." Frank Cascio declared on Oprah and in his memoir that Jackson's love for children was innocent. Now all five siblings claim Jackson trafficked and sexually abused them starting when some were as young as seven. This Hidden Killers Week In Review examines the legal collision that's testing the limits of credibility and timing. The Jackson estate calls this extortion. The Cascios signed a settlement in 2019—reportedly $690,000 per sibling per year for five years—that included confidentiality, non-disparagement, and mandatory arbitration clauses. They collected on it. Twenty-five years of sworn statements defending Michael Jackson. Testimony at his 2005 trial. A book. National television appearances. Now all five Cascio siblings are suing, alleging Jackson drugged, raped, and trafficked them since childhood. The estate is calling it extortion. A hearing this week determines whether this case goes public—or gets sealed in arbitration.Former prosecutor Eric Faddis joins True Crime Today to break down the legal battle, the credibility nightmare, and what happens when longtime defenders become accusers. The Cascios already signed a settlement with the estate in 2019—reportedly $690,000 per sibling per year for five years. It included confidentiality, non-disparagement, and mandatory arbitration clauses. They collected. The estate's attorney claims the Cascio legal team threatened to "expand the circle of knowledge"—leak the allegations—right as Sony was finalizing a $600 million catalog deal. For 25 years, the Cascio family was Michael Jackson's shield. They testified at his 2005 trial. Frank Cascio wrote a book defending him. A hearing this week will decide whether the Cascio family's lawsuit against the Michael Jackson estate goes to public trial—or disappears into private arbitration where no one will ever see it.Former prosecutor Eric Faddis joins Hidden Killers Live to break down both sides of the most explosive entertainment lawsuit in years. The Cascio family defended Michael Jackson for 25 years. They testified at his 2005 criminal trial. Frank Cascio wrote "My Friend Michael." They told Oprah nothing inappropriate ever happened. Now all five siblings are suing, alleging Jackson drugged, raped, and sexually trafficked them starting when some were as young as seven. The estate calls it a $200 million extortion scheme. They're pointing to a 2019 settlement the Cascios already signed—and collected on—that included mandatory arbitration. The Cascios want that agreement voided, claiming it was signed under duress without proper legal representation.Eric Faddis explains what it legally takes to void a settlement you've already cashed, how 25 years of sworn defense testimony affects a credibility argument, and what the federal sex trafficking statute requires to prove against a defendant who's been dead for 15 years. The estate's attorney Marty Singer alleges the Cascio legal team threatened to leak allegations right as Sony was closing a $600 million catalog deal. Is that extortion? Or hardball negotiation? The Cascios say they were "deprogrammed" by watching Leaving Neverland in 2019. A new federal lawsuit filed this week accuses Michael Jackson's estate of child trafficking. The plaintiffs: four members of the Cascio family, siblings Jackson called his "second family" for over twenty-five years.According to court documents, Edward, Dominic, Marie-Nicole, and Aldo Cascio allege Jackson abused them beginning when some were as young as seven years old. They claim he groomed and isolated each child during trips around the world—including the Dangerous Tour, HIStory Tour, and visits to Neverland Ranch. The allegations are explosive. But so is the family's history of defending Jackson.Frank Cascio wrote a 2011 book declaring Jackson's innocence. The family appeared on Oprah in 2010 saying Jackson was never inappropriate. As recently as 2018, Frank was trying to turn his book into a TV series celebrating his friendship with Jackson. The estate calls this extortion. Attorney Marty Singer says the Cascios already received a settlement worth over three million dollars—then allegedly demanded two hundred thirteen million more. The Cascios say they were coerced into signing that settlement without lawyers while still processing trauma from watching "Leaving Neverland."A fifth sibling, Eddie, is pursuing separate claims in arbitration. He's also connected to the fake tracks scandal—songs he sold to the estate that Jackson's own family says weren't Michael's voice.Their attorney is Mark Geragos, who defended Jackson in 2003 and called him innocent. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
How does someone defend their alleged abuser for twenty-five years—then suddenly file a two hundred million dollar lawsuit? The Cascio family just accused Michael Jackson's estate of child trafficking. But these siblings spent decades swearing Jackson was innocent. Frank Cascio wrote a book. They went on Oprah. They attacked Wade Robson on social media before "Leaving Neverland" aired. Now they claim Jackson abused all five of them beginning when some were as young as seven years old.The Jackson estate calls it a shakedown. But trauma experts say this pattern is textbook grooming psychology. Victims become so enmeshed with their abusers that they genuinely don't recognize abuse as abuse. They internalize their abuser's worldview. They protect them. They attack anyone who threatens the relationship.Wade Robson testified under oath that Jackson never touched him—then filed an abuse lawsuit in 2013. James Safechuck defended Jackson in 1993—then alleged hundreds of abuse instances in 2014. Both say they didn't recognize what happened until therapy years later. The Cascios claim watching "Leaving Neverland" in 2019 finally broke the spell—and they discovered all five siblings had allegedly been abused. Is that plausible? It's exactly what experts describe. Is the timing also convenient for a massive payout? Absolutely.Michael Jackson was acquitted in 2005 and denied all allegations. His estate continues to deny them. The courts will decide whether this is justice or opportunism.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In this episode Elizabeth and Karin discuss the essay by Philipp Dominik Keidl where he explores how Michael Jackson fans responded to the sexual abuse allegations made by Wade Robson and James Safechuck in the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland. The focus is on a phenomenon Keidl terms "forensic fandom," where fans produce counter-documentaries and online content to defend Jackson's reputation by discrediting his accusers. These fan-made videos, particularly those associated with The Michael Jackson Innocence Project (MJIP), serve as a form of "media tribunal." The essay argues that these efforts are less about seeking truth and more about reinforcing myths that undermine allegations of sexual abuse, ultimately contributing to a toxic fan culture that silences victims and perpetuates harmful stereotypes.
King of Pop Michael Jackson sold half a billion records. He still has the best-selling album of all time. There is no doubt that he was a megastar. But what about the damning claims against him? The 2019 documentary, “Leaving Neverland”, detailed graphic allegations of serious abuse by two men who are still awaiting their day in court. And this week a new film, “Leaving Neverland 2”, will put the spotlight on their claims all over again. For a deep discussion on the new claims, Piers Morgan brings director of ‘Leaving Neverland 2' Dan Reed, former bodyguard to Jackson and co-author of Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days Bill Whitfield, Jackson's spiritual advisor Rabbi Shmuley and producer and director Choke No Joke. Michael Jackson might be the most famous pop star of all time. With more than 500 million records sold, it's hard to overstate his impact on popular culture, and on the generation of fans who grew up with his music. His strange personal life became part of his mystique. He occasionally slept in an oxygen chamber, and he collected exotic animals, including a pet monkey named Bubbles. But there were darker stories as well. Stories about him abusing young boys.In 1993, Jackson was publicly accused of molesting a child. In 2003, there was another accusation, and this time he was arrested.Despite all of this, Jackson's fans remained fiercely loyal to him right up to his death in 2009. Then, in 2019, director Dan Reed released a documentary called Leaving Neverland that profiled two men who alleged they had been abused by Jackson. The documentary was a watershed moment. For the first time, it seemed like people might finally be willing to reckon with who the King of Pop really was, and the things he might have done. Feedback for us? What if the most impactful stories aren't about the events themselves but the human experiences they evoke?Dan Reed's documentaries have earned 22 major nominations and 18 wins—for good reason. In this episode, I talk to Dan, the director whose hugely important films include the Emmy-winning Leaving Neverland, which investigates the sexual abuse allegations against Michael Jackson, and his Terror In… series, which explores the experiences of victims of terrorism. His body of work also includes numerous other acclaimed and award-winning documentaries that never fail to capture attention. He does this by creating compelling narratives through firsthand experiences, motivated by the importance of authenticity and empathy in storytelling. This episode focuses on the subjective lens of storytelling, revealing the disjunction between life before and after catastrophic events and the emotional depth it brings to the viewer experience. We also delve into the wider skills of documentary filmmaking, where we discuss the portrayal of complex characters and the narratives they create to justify their actions, shedding light on their motivations and emotions.Dan also talks about the power of collaboration between filmmakers and editors and how their broader interests and perspectives significantly enhance storytelling's emotional depth. Learn about the challenges and aspirations faced in documentary filmmaking and how building trust with subjects ensures truthful narratives. Our discussions also touched upon the broader impact of long-form documentaries in providing verifiable truth-telling in an era of commoditised information. From capturing the raw experiences of individuals during the tragic events of October 7th - One Day in October - to the ethical considerations of documentaries like Leaving Neverland this episode sheds light on the complexities of crafting impactful stories. This is a fascinating conversation with someone who has created his own documentary style, driven by a clear mission and purpose. Please have a look at the chapter markers to dig deeper into the lessons this episode provides.Dan Reed on IMDBDan's 18 wins and 22 nominationsAre you interested in joining the DocFix program and working with Nigel? Award winning journalist Charles Thomson returns to Reason Bound to discuss reality as people seem to be navigating it. Fake news, false information, and outright lies are inundating the populace more than Charles and Ryan can ever recall. Where can truth be found? How should claims be evaluated? From British politicians lamenting "Oh, we've had enough of experts" to formerly respected journalists jumping on leaving reality-land railroad jobs, truth is now out of style in favor of confirmation bias.
