Both C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were inspired by time-honored medieval tales. Chivalry plays a key role in medieval English literature, yet Lewis and Tolkien seem to view it very differently – Lewis as a virtue, Tolkien as a vice. "Lewis and Tolkien on the Necessity of Chivalry" dives into essays by both men on the topic, ultimately finding common ground between them. Join Professor Strickland on this quest to explore the code of conduct that governs warfare, sport, honor, and loyalty.

Drowning Pool has been playing heavy music for over 25 years and they have no intentions on slowing down.  As they are set to release their new album "Strike  A Nerve" on September 30th, we are joined by guitarist C.J. Pierce and  and vocalist, Jasen Moreno.  We had an awesome conversation that ranged from topics such as carrying on with new members, having an album delayed due to Covid,  the longevity of the band, and more.  Both C.J. and Jasen were very interesting, humble, and open guests.    We also talk about the Queen's funeral, Mike's interesting pre interview drive, and a whole lot about dogs.  Have a listen!

In this semi-live episode, the Pugsters return to Romanticism, a topic we’ve touched on in a number of other Pugcasts. After a quick explanation of Romanticism as a response to cultural stress, the guys discuss some of the pathologies that have entered Western society as a result of the Romantic movement, including Expressive Individualism. But it turns out that not everything about Romanticism was a negative. Both C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were influenced by a positive version of Romanticism that rejected elements of modernity in favor of a more traditionalist vision of society.

Carrie (@carrie.gillaspie) and Bre (@breanna.was.here) get right into the BIP talk. The girls discuss Angela coming to Paradise. Bre is a fan of the extremely cheesy editing tactics used that last couple weeks. Carrie thinks Sydney is too normal for BIP. Bre admits that she's rooting for Tayshia and JPJ's relationship. C and B give their thoughts on Blake's last ditch efforts with Kristina, and Bre is surprised to learn that contestants are PAID to be on BIP. Carrie praises Demi and her vulnerability for sharing her struggle to be out with America. Bre finds the Connor and Whitney fiasco "lame", but is super pumped to have seen a commercial for a plant-based burger during the show! Both C and B feel the extreme awkwardness of Luke S. being denied his rose. Carrie is pretty over Clay and Nicole, and the girls give their predictions for which couples have the best chance to make it outside of paradise. C and B send a big congratulations to last year's BIP faves - Kevin and Astrid - on their engagement, briefly discuss the first photos of Tyler C. and Gigi Hadid showing PDA, and are sad to say they've been a little annoyed with Hannah B. lately. Bre tells us about an amazing teenage activist named Greta Thunberg and how she's taking stand for what she believes in. Full show notes can be found at: www.carriegillaspie.com

Carrie (@carrie.gillaspie) and Bre (@breanna.was.here) start the show with Bachelor in Paradise talk, giving their opinions of Kristina's move to give Blake her rose. They then address the fight between Jordan and Christian. Carrie is not impressed with Nicole's instigation of the aggression and is surprised how much she's enjoying Chris Bukowski this season. Both C and B are both unimpressed with Dyan and Hannah G. and their dynamic on the show. Carrie goes on a mini-tangent about how much she loves Chris Harrison. The girls discuss Demi's beautiful reunion with Kristian, but question the reason behind both girls staying in Paradise. Carrie thinks the entire set up while amazing and beautiful, seems a little contrived by producers, and gives her opinion of how the rest of the show should go down. Breanna is not a fan of Caitlin's double standard in her argument about with Kristina. C and B share the latest books they've been reading, and their recommendations!

Carrie (@carrie.gillaspie) and Bre (@breanna.was.here) start the show getting right into our Bachelorette recap. The girls continue to love and appreciate Pilot Pete. Bre is uber impressed with his family and Carrie thinks Pilot Pete is the new Blake. As a former Florida resident, Carrie is super into Tyler C.'s very cliche Florida date. Breanna has a theory that Hannah is drawn to Luke P. by wanting to "fix" him. Carrie declares she never wants to hear Luke's shower story ever again, and Breanna thinks that it was pretty obvious that Luke's family knows he's slightly unhinged. C and B agree that Jed's family was meeting was by far the worst and most awkward. Carrie theorizes that Jed's family had complete knowledge of the stunt he was pulling. The girls decide who they think is the cantaloupe, apple, pineapple, and kiwi, and they ponder the irony of Jed calling Luke P. a scum bag. Carrie gives a shout-out to the US Women's soccer team winning the world cup! Both C and B weigh in on the controversy of Halle Bailey being cast as an African American Arielle for Disney's remake of The Little Mermaid. The girls take to the Twitter trending list and answer the question "what lines from books have stuck with you?" and "strange things you wish would come back?".

Carrie (@carrie.gillaspie) and Bre (@breanna.was.here) get right into the Bachelor talk! Bre shares her favorite Bachelor Nation follows on social media and Carrie admits that she broke her rule of no following Bachelor contestants on social media for Tyler C. They then get into discussing Hannah's date with Jed. Carrie teaches Bre about the concept of the GBH: Girl Back Home, and both girls agree they can't look at Jed the same way in light of the information resurfacing about his GBH. Both C and B agree that Tyler C.'s date and the inclusion of the horses was awkward, but that their dinner and his vulnerability saved the date. The girls are baffled by the continuation of the Luke P. and Garrett saga, and they both applaud how Pilot Pete navigated the awkward group date. They, of course, discuss the windmill heard 'round the world. C and B unpack the huge T-Swift drama with Scooter Braun regarding the sale of her masters. As creators, both girls sympathize with Taylor, and how hard it must be not owning the rights to your work. C and B end the show giving tips for keeping your pets safe during 4th of July weekend! The number of degrees of freedom in a system is equal to its number of unknowns minus its number of equations. That is also equal to the number of independent variables in the system. Dependent variables do not contribute degrees of freedom. However, by taking advantage of determinism, we can compute at run time the set of independent variables upon which a dependent variable depends. This gives libraries like Update Controls, Assisticant, and Knockout the ability to figure out when to update the view with extreme efficiency. Both C# and Java have enumerables. These are interfaces understood by the looping constructs of the language itself. Unfortunately, it is unsafe to modify a collection while using an iterator. But immutable data types hold the key, and should be the preferred way of managing collections. Prime numbers are the building blocks of all natural numbers. Godel used them to prove his Incompleteness Theorem. There are many mind-blowing facts that we know about prime numbers, such as the general distribution of them as we continue counting. However, there are equally mind-blowing things that we don't know, such as how clumped together they are far out along the number line.

Both C++ templates and C# generics serve a similar purpose. But where C# uses constraints to enable generics, C++ instead uses the compiler to enable templates. And C++ includes the ability to create templates base on values which will enable you to do things unheard of in C#. Most C# developers do not even know what they are missing.
