When does Bayern Munich re-start again? That was...terrible. Germany looked aimless and lacked energy and got the result that it deserved in a 2-0 loss to Colombia. The game looked like it mattered to the Colombians, while the Germans ambled around hoping that something good would happen (Hint: Nothing good happened). Let's find out if you are as bitter as me! As Stringer Bell once told Brother Mouzone and Omar Little, let's “get on with it”: A look at the starting lineup and a breakdown of the scoring. Where is the pride on this German team? Colombia was energetic, brash, and talking junk...and Germany withered under the stress of it all. Nothing is good...not the attack, nor the midfield, nor the defense. They are all terrible right now. Hansi Flick is assuredly in some danger. Where does it go from here? And why the players need to take some heat as well. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD Jacob and Willy go in deep on what many TV types consider to be the best TV episode. We talk about how Brother Mouzone may or may not have special levitating powers, all the mistakes Stringer made along the way to get himself shot twice in the chest, and how his swan song hangout session with Avon is really uncomfortably powerful. Other topics include how Joe Chappelle is on the VIP list of Wire directors for making cops glued to their computer screens must-see television, the influences Simon and Pelecanos got from old Sergio Leone western films, how Stringer Bell's community college must have failed him since he wasn't able to detect Clay Davis double-crossing him in a business deal, and how it becomes more apparent with repeated viewings that Carcetti is not nearly as idealistic as one might think when watching this show for the first time. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thegodswillnotsaveyou/support
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! In this episode, Willy and Jacob talk about how the MCU has to deal with the loss of Prez. There's also quite a bit of discussion about Brother Mouzone's return to Baltimore and using Lamar (the real-life Deandre McCullough) and his "visceral homophobia" to pinpoint Omar's location. The New Day Co-op leadership offers up an ultimatum to Stringer in an effort to reign in Avon and his murderously impulsive behavior. Bunny lets Carver know that he recognizes his talent, but that moving a dead body into another jurisdiction in an effort to stay out of trouble, goes against common sense. Burrell and Rawls get real ticked off when they find out about the whole Hamsterdam fiasco, but Burrell tries to spin it in a positive light while in the mayor's office. Cool Lester Smooth earns his nickname when he goes undercover and effortlessly sets a trap for Bernard and Squeak. Cutty has a soft opening for his gym, but soon faces the harsh reality of having to wrangle a lot of these kids who come from fractured domestic situations. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thegodswillnotsaveyou/support
This is the second of two episodes focusing on August Wilson’s play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and its recent film adaptation on Netflix. Today’s interview is with actor Michael Potts who starred in the Netflix film as Slow Drag, the bass player in Ma Rainey’s blues band. When I watched Michael Potts as Slow Drag, I saw something recognizable: the way his character can convey so much with a glance or a knowing look. It is the tendency to observe rather than jump into action. To see a situation from an intellectual distance. I went back to re-watch three roles from his TV work, all HBO series: True Detective, Show Me a Hero, and The Wire in which he played the notable character Brother Mouzone. The art of observation is apparent in each of these characters. As Michael says in the interview: “It’s part of my natural inclinations as a person, as Michael, to observe everything. I’m very aware of where I am in situations. I’m always checking the temperature of the room, which the actor training simply reinforced.” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Michael Potts steps into the Batter’s Box to chat with host Al Malafronte and producer Alan Seales in Episode 16 of Break a Bat! Michael is an Obie Award Winner, and one of the most esteemed and versatile actors in the game. He takes the boys through his processes and views towards acting that’ve produced some extremely memorable performances both on stage and on screen. With an acting career that began via a secret application to the Yale School of Drama, Michael has since gone onto master authentic embodiment of characters that’ve spanned iconic performances such as Brother Mouzone in HBO's The Wire, Mafala Hatimbi in The Book of Mormon, and Principal Hawkins in The Prom. With a Class Act reputation on stage and off, it only seems fitting to parallel his master of craft to that of Derek Jeter. With the legendary Yankee Captain’s upcoming induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame later this month, Michael offers poignant perspective on what embodies greatness either in acting or athletics.
