The theories of unrestrained executive power guiding the Trump administration's assault on the administrative state and its attitude toward the federal judiciary draw on a far-right intellectual tradition. The thrust of these ideas is that the president must be able to exercise emergency powers and that neither Congress nor the courts should stand in his way. In this episode, political theorist Damon Linker explains the origins of the ideas driving Trump 2.0. Linker writes Notes From the Middleground newsletter on Substack. AMDG. What do parents need to know before their children enter middle school or high school? Curriculum Director Maggie Hayden and Principal Nicole O'Connor are back once again to discuss classical education at the 6-12 grade level. Maggie and Nicole share their years of expertise working with students, outlining what parents and students can expect both developmentally and academically as they transition from elementary school to middle school and from middle school to high school. The duo emphasizes the importance of exploration, curiosity, and integration; explains why literature and grammar are the focal point of the middle school years; and details why the Classical Composition course is so highly recommended through middle and high school. Next, Maggie and Nicole turn their attention to high school, discussing the methodology behind Kolbe's program, the “big questions” the program centers around, why “religion” becomes “theology” when studied in high school, and so much more. Ready to grow your TPT business but unsure if you should hire help or improve your systems first? Janice Cook, owner of Cook Family Resources, brings her unique perspective as a project manager who works with both teacher entrepreneurs and virtual assistants to share what really works—and what doesn't—when building your team. After 12 years as a music teacher, Janice found herself in the online business world and quickly became the go-to person for managing projects when other TPT sellers needed support. Her position gives her remarkable insight into both sides of the hiring equation, seeing firsthand why some working relationships thrive while others fail miserably. We dive deep into the four essential elements you must have in place before bringing on help: clear communication channels, documented standard operating procedures, time allocated for feedback, and clarity about who's bringing the expertise to the table. Janice explains why jumping into hiring without these foundations often leads to frustration on both sides, wasted money, and the dreaded "hiring horror stories" that make entrepreneurs hesitant to delegate again. You'll discover practical advice for determining when you're truly ready to hire, how to choose the right communication systems for your team, and what questions to ask yourself before writing that job description. Janice also shares her insider perspective on finding the right match for your specific needs, whether that's through referrals, specialized freelancers, or more cost-effective solutions.Whether you're considering your first hire or looking to improve your existing team dynamics, this conversation will help you create the systems that make delegation successful, allowing your TPT business to grow in a way that's both purposeful and sustainable.Get your ticket to the Teacher Seller's Summit: https://laurenfulton.krtra.com/t/oTIxSLPqfhYfGet Janice's Free Hiring Guide: https://www.cookfamilyresources.com/hiring-guide/Check Out Janice's Book Club: https://www.cookfamilyresources.com/summer-book-club/Check Out Janice's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/teacherjaniceva/Check Out My YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/laurenfultonMy Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laurentschappler/My Other YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@LaurenATschFree Rebranded Teacher Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/749538092194115 Support the show

We've been conditioned to believe that work falls into one of two extremes: either you're grinding non-stop, pushing yourself to exhaustion, or you've mastered the elusive work-life balance. But what if that's a false choice? As a creator, I've realized that some of my work doesn't feel like work at all. It can be play, it can be art, and it can feel deeply satisfying. Yet, there's pressure to justify how we spend our time, as if every choice determines our worth. Join The Co-op - The Membership for Online Businesses Connect with Abagail Instagram All the Links! In today's episode, I challenge these ideas. What if we stopped obsessing over whether we're working “the right way” and embraced creativity for what it is? Something that brings us joy. How would we show up differently without judgment from others or ourselves? Let's explore how letting go of these pressures can transform the way we work and live! Send us a textHave you ever had your perfectly planned day completely derailed by someone else's schedule change? That's exactly what happened to me this week, and it sparked a powerful revelation about the role of compromise in romantic relationships. When my husband called to say he needed to work late on my sacred self-care Monday, I had a choice: react with frustration or embrace the opportunity to demonstrate true partnership. This unexpected schedule shift became the perfect real-world example of how healthy compromise strengthens relationships rather than diminishes them.Throughout this episode, I explore what compromise really means in relationships—finding solutions that honor both partners' needs rather than one person always getting their way. I share practical strategies for effective compromising: communicating openly, listening actively, practicing flexibility, finding common ground, and exercising patience. These skills don't develop overnight, but with practice, they become the foundation of a thriving partnership. While championing the benefits of compromise, I also address when you shouldn't compromise. Your core values, especially your faith, should remain non-negotiable. Additionally, if your partner uses "compromise" as a manipulation tactic or refuses to meet you halfway, these are serious relationship warning signs that deserve attention.Whether you're dating, engaged, or married, this episode offers practical wisdom for navigating the daily give-and-take that healthy relationships require. The question isn't if you'll need to compromise, but how you'll handle those moments when they inevitably arise. Will you think only of yourself, or will you consider your partner's needs as well? Your approach to compromise might just determine the strength and longevity of your relationship.Share this episode with someone who might benefit from these insights, and follow me on social media @DemoWithMo to continue the conversation about building Christ-centered relationships.Support the showConnect with MoBecome a Subscriber for subscriber only content: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1834533/subscribeMerchandise: https://demo-with-mo.myspreadshop.com/ Website: https://www.demowithmo.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/demowithmopodcast/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/demowithmo/Facebook Relationship Community:https://www.facebook.com/groups/548524369897098/?ref=share TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@demowithmo/

What if the key to innovation lies in embracing the absurd? In this episode, we sit down with David Carson, creator of Dumbify, to explore how “thinking dumber” can unlock powerful creative breakthroughs. Challenging conventional notions of identity and intelligence, we examine how embracing the fear of looking foolish fosters curiosity, adaptability, and deeper problem-solving skills.Together, we navigate the societal constraints that suppress unconventional thinking, uncovering how a beginner's mind and unresolved psychological patterns influence creativity. From Montessori classrooms to cutting-edge tech spaces, we discuss the environments that nurture curiosity, allowing us to accept uncertainty and reframe “I don't know” as a launchpad for discovery.Expanding beyond creativity, we explore the role of identity, vulnerability, and discomfort in reshaping how we approach challenges. Like an athlete refining their craft, we discover how stepping into the discomfort of new ideas can transform not just our metacognitive processes, but our sense of self. We also examine the balance between humor and harsh judgment, cooperation and competition—revealing how innovation thrives in the middle ground.Through David's insights, we uncover a metacognitive approach to creativity—one that celebrates inquiry, welcomes the unexpected, and redefines intelligence as the courage to process differently.Tune in and discover how exploring “dumb” ideas might just be the smartest move you can make.Highlights(04:03) Embracing Dumb Thinking for Success (114 Seconds)(07:52) Embracing Dumb Ideas for Mindfulness (123 Seconds)(12:06) Overcoming Fear of Looking Stupid (96 Seconds)(21:18) Montessori Education Impact on Learning (71 Seconds)(27:56) Fostering Creativity and Trust in Workplace (100 Seconds)(35:05) The Essence of Mediocrity (49 Seconds)(39:08) Creative Collaborations in Fashion Industry (56 Seconds)(53:25) Innovating Through Frustration and Context (75 Seconds)(57:36) Originality Through Diverse Perspectives (75 Seconds)(01:07:35) Approaching Problems With Fresh Eyes (55 Seconds)Chapters(00:00) - Thinking Dumber(07:29) - Embracing Mindfulness for Creative Thinking(13:19) - Reimagining Identity and Productive Thinking(17:37) - Fostering a Curious Mind(21:18) - Creating a Curious and Collaborative Environment(27:22) - Navigating Judgment for Creative Innovation(35:55) - Exploring Middle Ground and Creativity(46:11) - Navigating Self-Identity in Problem Solving(01:00:16) - Embracing Dumb Ideas for InnovationKeywordsDumbify, Thinking Dumber, Innovation, Creativity, Mindfulness, Beginner's Mind, Curiosity, Identity, Self-Improvement, Judgment, Middle Ground, Humor, Collaboration, Improv, Coopetition, Internal Family Systems, Decision-Making, Iteration, Mistakes, Business CultureJOIN US ON INSTAGRAM: @thelightinsidepodcastSUBSCRIBE: pod.link/thelightinsideCredits:Featured Guest: David CarsonExecutive Producer: Jeffrey BeseckerExecutive Program Director: Anna GetzMixing, Engineering, Production and Mastering: Aloft Media Studio

Each episode dives deep into why middle managers and team leaders should be empowered and held accountable for critical functions like team alignment, consistent communication, strategic scoping, and implementation. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit wisdomofcrowds.liveMana Afsari is a writer and sometime contributor to Wisdom of Crowds, whose career has taken her from the RAND Corporation, to a job as an assistant to a great American poet, to the position of Research Associate at the Aspen Institute's Philosophy and Society Initiative. In January, Mana published an essay titled, “Last Boys at the Beginning of History,” a fascinating reported piece about the young men with intellectual ambitions who joined the National Conservative movement and voted for Donald Trump. The essay went viral and earned praise from both liberals and conservatives. Damon Linker of Notes from the Middleground called it “a remarkable essay that's generated considerable (and well-justified) buzz.”Mana joins Santiago Ramos and Shadi Hamid to discuss the essay and the general question of why ambitious, inquisitive and searching young men are attracted to the MAGA movement. “I am not a right wing zoologist,” Mana says, but it is important to understand where these men are coming form. These young intellectuals are not your average Trump voter. They are not the “DOGE boys,” either. But they are becoming a significant part of the GOP leadership class. Shadi wants to know why an interest in culture and ideas has led these men toward right wing spaces. Mana responds that right wing spaces, at least until recently, had a less politicized approach to culture. Many of these young men are interested in things, like history or cartography, which some suggest are “right-coded.” “Most things that are supposedly right-coded should not be right-coded,” Mana says. And what do they think of Trump? “They don't think of Trump as Odoacer, they see him as Julius Caesar. They don't see him as a barbarian, but as a restorer of the republic.”In our bonus section for paid subscribers, Shadi talks about going to a recent right wing party and says it was “a safe space, it was inclusive”; Santiago asks Shadi if he ever went to right wing parties during the War on Terror; Mana distinguishes the desire for free and open discussion versus the desire to “say whatever you want,” i.e., slurs; and Santiago argues that the Israel-Palestine conflict has made all political sides rediscover the importance of freedom of speech.Required Reading and Listening:* Mana Afsari, “Last Boys at the Beginning of History” (The Point).* Santiago Ramos, “Let Us Now Praise the Supermen” (WoC).* Santiago Ramos, “Do You Know What Time It Is?” (WoC).* Damir Marusic, “Barbarians at the Gate” (WoC).* Shadi Hamid, “Why Half of America is Cheering for Chaos” (Washington Post). * Wisdom of Crowds podcast episode, “The Masculine World is Adrift” (WoC).* Henry Kissinger quote about Trump (Financial Times).* Vittoria Elliot, “The Young, Inexperienced Engineers Aiding Elon Musk's Government Takeover” (Wired).* Norman Podhoretz, Ex-Friends: Falling Out with Allen Ginsberg, Lionel and Diana Trilling, Lillian Hellman, Hannah Arendt and Norman Mailer (Amazon). * C. Jeff's final solo episode of Paratopia covers where we've been over the long journey of the program--which includes a special mystery guest to talk of the future. But Jeff also delivers a critical message about where communication regarding the '"alien" encounter goes in moving forward, how it cannot be stopped, why we have to take the mighty leap of faith, and speak of it as it truly is, and not be coerced by the machinations of the past or present day ufology. No-man's land never stays that way for long. We must all lay claim to the middle ground. (originally aired: 06.07.2012)
Episode notesIn this episode, Coaches Valerie and Caroline discuss how cycling relates to running. Yep, the RunRX program can prepare you to be a better cyclist!Timestamps of big takeawaysMethods of Cycling and Running Efficiently[00:49] The best position for a movement is referred to as a pose. Most people can identify the standard position when we mention there is one for swimming, jogging, cycling, or other activities. The standard movement in running is the Pose Method developed by Dr. Romanov. The Middle Ground[02:39] Cycling seems to be the middle ground in exercising. Most people grew up swimming or running, but in cycling, you use your body weight more naturally. The Principle of Cycling[04:30] Most people think that when you pedal, you're supposed to apply pressure from the front of the leg and the quad. They think that cycling involves pressing your front leg into the ground at the pedal's base while pulling your foot up with your hamstring, much like you would while scraping dirt off your shoes. You actually don't need to use either one of those movements, and the glute actually plays the biggest role. How RunRX Prepares You For Running and Cycling[06:56] There are four cycling drills that RunRX teaches that anyone can do on their bike to help them learn to be more efficient on the bike. You start thinking about things differently like when you pedal up a hill, you should be in your really lowest gear and just spin up the hill. If you feel that you could add resistance, then add resistance. Going downhill, let gravity do its thing.Principle of Swimming[10:28] When Coach Valerie first met Dr. Romanov, he gave her a swimming lesson that taught her how to feel her body weight through her hands using them as support. In swimming, your hand is your support. You hold your hand, and you press down a little bit, and you bring your body up and over your support, which is your hand. Swimming feels like climbing a ladder or doing a reverse monkey bar in the water. How RunRX Helps Triathletes[13:25] The core of what RunRX teaches revolves around running. However, we have several triathletes in the program that also benefit from our drills. The Immersion[15:26] The idea behind RunRX's Immersion was to “immerse” yourself in a movement to understand what it is. The immersion allows you to understand the concept of what you are learning and practicing. The challenge is actually getting into the pose and doing the movement correctly.Having a Support System[18:27] Hearing someone else's correction is really powerful because it's easier to see someone else do the movement correctly or hear it from someone else other than yourself. Other people likely will have questions about certain movements or about dealing with injuries - and you can learn a lot from the answers their questions will prompt.Rate, Review & Subscribe ReminderDon't forget to like and subscribe to our show. The first phase of Trump's presidency has been a whirlwind of news. The President signed a succession of executive orders, which overwhelmed and confused the Democratic Party with the amount of ‘energy in the executive'. But there are signs of life, particularly in opposition to Trump's attempts to freeze federal grants and loans. What's going on? Are the Democrats finding their feet? To discuss, Freddy is joined by Damon Linker, senior lecturer in political science at the University of Pennsylvania and the author of the Notes from the Middle Ground substack.

On the eve of Donald Trump's second inauguration, many Americans are struggling to explain how we got here again. Are past narratives failing to help us understand the present? The history of conservatism or illiberalism may provide some answers for this new age of American politics, this post-post-Cold War period that is upending what we assumed about the march of progress, democracy, and free markets. In this episode, political scientist Damon Linker contends the old pieties no longer apply, but it's difficult to discern a new explanation. Lisa is joined by Manya Ronay, a Level 3 Internal Family Systems (IFS) practitioner, Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®), and Food Addiction Recovery Advocate (FARA) living in Israel. She works at the intersection of physical health and emotional health, specializing in IFS for eating and mind-body healing. The interview explores the impact of ultra-processed foods on health, the complexities of food addiction versus intuitive eating, and critiques mainstream eating disorder treatments. It emphasizes holistic approaches, including IFS, for healing and empowerment. Topics Include: Diet Culture Anti-Diet Culture Food Addictions Eating Disorders IFS [0:36] Lisa describes how she connected with Manya through Instagram, feeling a rare connection with someone like-minded. Manya shares that living in Israel during a war affects her nervous system, causing a shutdown stage, but she feels happy to be part of the podcast. She discusses her journey from conventional medicine to holistic practices after being diagnosed with POTS, leading her to explore food and lifestyle changes. [4:29] Manya explains the concept of ultra-processed foods using the NOVA classification, highlighting their hyper-palatable nature and health impacts. Manya describes her transition to using IFS in her practice, finding it a perfect model for understanding internal and external dynamics in nutrition. [10:11] Manya discusses how changing her diet helped alleviate severe gastrointestinal symptoms and was a step towards overall healing, including acupuncture and mind-body healing. Manya explains the negative health impacts of ultra-processed foods, linking them to chronic diseases and shorter lifespans, and highlights the high percentage of such foods in typical diets. Manya references Dr. Chris Palmer's work linking ultra-processed foods to mental health issues by affecting mitochondria and energy production in cells. [16:59] Manya shares insights from working with a food addiction recovery group, noting that ultra-processed foods can be addictive, similar to substances like alcohol. Lisa examines intuitive eating, suggesting it works for those affected by diet culture but not for those using food to cope with trauma, as it doesn't address underlying emotional issues. [33:01] Lisa discusses mainstream eating disorder treatment for being dismissive and leading to high relapse rates. Manya agrees, noting that both eating disorder and food addiction treatments often involve ignoring or fighting internal voices, which can be harmful. Lisa explains the challenges of balancing intuitive eating with health priorities, highlighting a client's struggle with internal polarization between eating freely and prioritizing health. [34:29] Lisa and Manya discuss using IFS to address eating issues by acknowledging and listening to different internal voices, promoting a holistic and non-judgmental approach to healing. Manya emphasizes the importance of empowerment and choice in healing, suggesting that feeling in control and having options can contribute significantly to recovery. [40:52] Manya shares the IFS eating triangle and how it can go in multiple directions, and the bi-directional arrows represent different experiences of individuals. The roles of firefighters and managers in IFS are not always clear-cut. Eating can be a manager role if it is preemptive, showing the model's imperfections. Intuitive eating and food addiction can be mapped on the same triangle, with intuitive eating going counterclockwise and food addiction clockwise. [1:06:00] Manya draws parallels between mind-body practices and intuitive eating, highlighting how both can ignore the biological effects of food. They emphasize the importance of understanding how food affects the body beyond just emotional or psychological aspects. [1:07:39] Lisa reflects on the pendulum swing between diet culture and anti-diet culture, advocating for a balanced approach that considers both intuitive eating and nutritional health. Manya emphasizes that healing and taking care of one's body is a lifelong journey, not a quick fix. They discuss the importance of continuously attending to one's health and well-being. The promise of 2025 is in gaining power from bringing order to chaos. You gotta love math to understand natures secret blueprint. 45 times 45 is 2025. It's more than just a calculation, it is order our of disarray. Think of a grid, and also of boxes. It's going to look like they walked right into it. Nailing a fixed point in time is not that hard. The collective group is who decides. Faked outrage covers up their manipulation. Many are packing up and quietly exiting. Identifying patterns offers many opportunities. But how are such insights used? Storch and the Ukraine elections. Adding bots to sow discourse. Detection tools must be applied. Operation gridlock will blow your mind. Human qualities define what gets verified. Refusing transparencies and the nature of influence networks. The question is how will the censorship tools be used. China's social credit system shows the worst. Digital cammo is a real thing. The complexity makes it difficult to grasp the scope of repression. Free speech is messy. H1B visas workers should not be in positions of control. It's both a moral and a technical challenge so be ready, because 2025 will be the year of the perfect square.

Back in October, before the 2024 election, we had on our friend—and brilliant screenwriter and playwright—Dorothy Fortenberry to talk about gender and the presidential campaign. Amid all the postmortems and Democratic soul searching, we wanted to have Dorothy back on to revisit some of those questions, starting with the difficulties women face in running as "outsiders" or against "The System"—an especially relevant consideration given the prevailing anti-incumbent, burn-it-down sentiment among voters across Europe and the Americas. Along the way we discuss Sarah Palin, Trump's "bad sex" cabinet and administration, how "having fun" is coded in American culture, and more.Sources:Dorothy Fortenberry, "The J.D.
