V and I recently visited a spirit tasting room in Vista, Ca where the make the only know vodka made from excess baked goods.
Rox and Reese Richards set out to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a 50 day trip in the Boundary Waters. This is the story of their trip, and what Rox calls "the misadventure before the adventure." Within the first nine days they encountered high water, a canoe wreck leading to an unplanned night on the river bank, and an abrupt departure from the wilderness. In spite of what many people would consider to be a major setback, the couple decided to start again, ultimately reaching their goal of 50 contiguous days in the BWCAW. It's an inspiring story of love and adventure in the Wilderness!

What happens in Sherlock Holmes' world when the master detective is away and Dr. Watson is kidnapped? In this episode, we sit down with author Jeri Westerson to do a deep dive into her An Irregular Detective Mystery series, a thrilling and historically rich take on the Victorian detective genre. When Dr. Watson goes missing, it's up to Tim Badger, a former Baker Street Irregular, and his partner, the scientifically-minded Ben Watson (no relation!), to solve a case that could make or break their fledgling detective agency.Join us as we explore the foggy streets of Victorian London and beyond with Jeri Westerson, who shares the inspiration behind her unique characters. We discuss how her stories exist as Sherlock Holmes pastiche books, while still carving out their own distinct identity. This interview serves as a fascinating The Misplaced Physician review, detailing the plot where Badger and Watson must unravel cryptic clues left in the untold tales of the Sherlock Holmes canon to save their hero. We also explore the core themes of the Tim Badger and Ben Watson series, including the rigid class differences of the era and the challenges faced by our working-class heroes. Jeri explains the fascinating historical accuracy she weaves into her novels, from the shocking reality of mummy unwrapping parties to the surprising efficiency of 12-times-a-day mail delivery in 1895. A major focus is the character of Miss Ellsie Moira Littleton, a determined and educated Victorian era female journalist modeled on real-life reporters of the day, like Nellie Bly. Finally, Jeri gives us a sneak peek into the future of the series, including the upcoming books "The Vampire Client" and "The Magician's Misadventure."About Our Guest:Jeri Westerson is the author of the critically acclaimed "An Irregular Detective Mystery" series. With her passion for life, history, and story, Liz Tolsma is the author of several novels ranging from World War II to Amish fiction. While she thought she'd write one book and be done, her debut novel was a finalist for two awards. Now she's a full-time author and editor, and she has never looked back. She joins us today to share about topics close to her heart, and to introduce her latest release, When the Sky Burned. A Word of Inspiration Liz Tolzma's writing journey began much like other authors—at a young age with a vivid imagination and an innate knack for storytelling. Dubbed "Sarah Bernhardt" by her parents due to her flair for drama, Liz was encouraged by a supportive fifth-grade teacher who instilled the dream of becoming a published author. Adoption: A Theme Close to the Heart A big passion for Liz centers around the theme of international adoption. She and her husband have welcomed three children into their family from different corners of the world, embedding rich experiences and diverse cultures into their lives. Liz speaks passionately about how adoption mirrors God's unconditional love and adoption of us, reflecting how it has shaped her as both a mother and a writer. Overlooked History Brought to Life "When the Sky Burned," Liz's latest novel, captures the essence of historical fiction by intertwining real events with an inspiring story. Set against the backdrop of the lesser-known Peshtigo Fire of 1871, Liz carefully balances historical accuracy with the fictional journeys of her characters. Mariah Randolph embodies resilience as she transitions from an artist to a survivor of blindness. Inspired by real stories of blind painters, Liz weaves a narrative that highlights resilience, transformation, and justice. What's Next for Liz Tolsma? Continuing with her theme of stories based on real-life events, Liz is excited to be writing a fictionalized version of a reader's family history from World War II. Readers can connect with her through her website, newsletter, GoodReads, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, X, and her own podcast. Enjoy a series of 6 exciting novels featuring historic disasters that transformed landscapes and multiple lives. Whether by nature or by man, these disasters changed history and were a day to be remembered. Promising painter Mariah Randolph longs to have her canvases displayed in the world's best museums, and Hollis Stanford, the heir of a railroad tycoon, is her ticket to success. The railroad's bookkeeper, Jay Franklin, discovers discrepancies and is convinced that Hollis is stealing from the company. But any proof of his dirty dealings go up in smoke when fire utterly destroys the town of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, October 8, 1871. The fire leaves Mariah blind, but Jay befriends her and even helps her to start painting again. But a trip to Chicago to return Hollis's daughter to him could put both Mariah and Jay in more danger than even the fire that devastated the town and their lives. Hi friends! This is episode 50 of the Greta Eskridge Podcast. If you didn't get to listen to my first interview with Christina, you need to be sure to go back and listen to episode 49. You'll love getting to know Christina and her story better. In this episode we focused on what Christina's life looks like now as a homeschool mom who loves to travel and adventure with her family, and how she makes it happen. That is where I think this episode shines! You'll want to hear what Christina has learned about making family travel doable and affordable as she shares tips with us like: traveling in the off season, and especially midweek, reaching out to hotel and homeowners directly (not through Air B&B!) and exploring your own part of the world with day trips instead of making it an overnight. And if you feel like travel is impossible for you, remember what I shared about travel with my kids when we didn't have a big, or any, travel budget: I traveled the world by exploring where I lived! You don't have to go far or go big to make your travel count. There is beauty, adventure and inspiration all around you. There is so much more on this episode: we talked about the magic of misadventure, how it connects us, the time I peed in a trashcan while tent camping in the middle of a lightening storm in Yosemite, apologizing to our kids when we don't handle misadventure well…..you're gonna love it! In this episode of the Proper True Yarn podcast, we're joined by the legendary Jeff Perot, a true character from the outback who's lived a life full of wild stories, crazy adventures, and unforgettable yarns. Jeff takes us back to his school days at Saint Brendan's in Yeppoon, where a mate named Bob Beasley became infamous for his hilarious blunders in class. From calling the "sick boy" a "hospital case" to clashing with a forgetful poetry recital, Bob's antics had everyone in stitches. But it's not just schoolyard tales; Jeff shares stories from the bush, including a hypnotism prank that left a mate with soot-covered face and a bewildered mind, and a trip down memory lane with the famous Brian Cohen—aka "The Horse Whisperer."From a wild comedy show at school to the mischief and chaos of the Australian outback, this episode is full of laughs, oddball characters, and true Aussie grit. Get ready for a proper true yarn, as Jeff recounts some of the most bizarre and hilarious moments in his long, adventurous life. You won't want to miss it!#propertrueyarn Hosted on Acast. This Christmas, the cold streets of Victorian London collide with the fiery depths of Hell in a chilling reimagining of a classic tale. Jacob Marley, the tormented ghost doomed to carry the chains of his earthly sins, is summoned by a sinister demon to deliver a haunting message to his former partner, Ebenezer Scrooge. But as Marley confronts the sins of his past, he discovers that redemption is not within his grasp—and that Hell's games are far crueler than he could have ever imagined. A story of despair, darkness, and the twisted contrast between holiday joy and eternal torment, "The Christmas Misadventure of Marley's Ghost" reveals the untold side of Scrooge's haunting—a side where hope is fleeting, and salvation is nothing more than a cruel joke. This is not the feel-good Christmas story you thought you knew. Ever wondered what happens when your fantasy football strategy feels like a scene from an old EA Sports game? Join us, John and Jay, as we ride the emotional rollercoaster of reaching the semifinals in our fantasy league. Our conversation spins from the joy of unexpected player performances to the more serious side of college sports, tackling the complexities of the transfer portal and the hot topics of athlete compensation. With laughter and lively debates, we question if NIL deals are shifting the heart of college athletics, making it more about the money than the game itself. But wait, there's more! We take a sideways leap into the entertainment world, sharing our mixed feelings on the freshest Karate Kid movie trailer. Our love for Cobra Kai fuels a humorous speculation about potential crossover scenarios and the future of the franchise. The hilarity continues as we parody the vintage "Lawrence Welk Show," celebrating Fred Armisen's comedic genius, and indulge in a nostalgic tribute to "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" while marveling at Dick Van Dyke's timeless performances. Our musical musings don't stop there—brace yourselves for a critique of the audacious fusion of country and metal, peppered with tales from the vibrant life of a wedding DJ.And just when you thought things couldn't get any more unexpected, we recount our recent adventure at a Macaulay Culkin event that didn't quite hit the mark. From awkward venue setups to reminiscing "Home Alone" scenes, our evening took a delightful turn with a memorable dining experience at Crave. This episode is a whirlwind of sports, movies, and music filled with humor and insights that will leave you chuckling and reflecting long after the credits roll.Send us a text message and let us know how awesome we are! Katy had quite the interesting "date" on Sunday...if you can call it that. Find out what happened to her, here.
Our guest in Episode 27 is the musician, artistic director and all-round Liverpool legend, Jayne Casey. She formed the short-lived but influential 70's band Big In Japan which boasted Ian Brodie, Holly Johnson, Bill Drummond and Budgie in its ranks. Then she founded Pink Military and Pink Industry before finding herself at the epicentre of the dance music explosion of the 90's as part of the CREAM empire. Her two-volume autobiography is out in 2025 and if it's anything like this episode of Misadventure in Music with Ian Prowse and Mick Ord it will be a real firecracker. Enjoy

This month, Lee was featured in SouthPark Magazines IT List of style-setting Charlotteans. It turned out amazing, and of course she looks fabulous in it, but she almost didn't do it at all because it's so far out of her comfort zone. In this episode, we're exploring how to get out of your own comfort zone, the things that have pushed us way out of our comfort zones in the past, and what you can do to fake it until you make it. Leave us a voice memo at https://Speakpipe.com/BePowerful! Send us a question to answer on the show, something that resonated with you from an episode, whatever you'd like! We don't like PDA, but some people have no problem making out in public or being loud at the Duke Mansion (IYKYK). To each their own! Sometimes, you need a close friend or loved one to push you out of your comfort zone in a loving and encouraging way. When people who care about us nudge us forward to try something new, we can learn so much and remember we're safe and loved even if we're uncomfortable. When it comes to your comfort zone, faking it till you're making it goes a long way! Put on your favorite makeup, keep your back straight and chin up even if you're scared, or whatever you need to do take a step out of your comfort zone. This week, the boys are doing their best Charles Dickens impressions, but instead of two cities, they're waxing poetic about the tale of two applicant tracking systems: SmartRecruiers and iCIMS. One is making all the right moves, while the other one, well, not-so-much. Then it's on to Amazon, whose new Amazon Q technology is taking the world by storm ... and possibly putting a lot of developers out of work. Yikes! Then it's time for a little Buy-or-Sell, featuring Pangeam, Micro1 and Workpay. More disagreement this time than usual, so hopefully you like fireworks. Many know her MANY accomplishments, but few know that Vanessa Fondeur is introverted. That she put her finger on a globe and spun it and THIS is how she ended up on a solo trip to Australia in which the MISADVENTURE led to her meeting her husband. Vanessa is willing to admit she cries about the things that scare her, but despite the fear, she DOES IT SCARED anyway. In this episode we have an open conversation about mindset, the things we tell ourselves to push through the fear, and the failures we've had.
On this week's podcast, Dan, Kris, and Dean board the SAG Cartoon Express for a visit to the classic animated series The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. This wretched cartoon pits everyone's favorite plumbers against King Koopa's neweast ally, Mighty Plumber, A TV Action hero that he somehow tricks into thinking Mario and Luigi are the bad guys. It's terrible, but is it at least fun? What exactly are the logistics of the windows in this show? Why are there surf rock songs sung by the Koopa Kids? Who knows? At the top of the show, Dan's health concerns continue, but he's at least a few steps closer to getting answers. While he navigates the US healthcare system, he's playing through all the mainline Metroid games, or at least he would be if he could find his copy of Samus Returns. Meanwhile, Dean spent some quality time with some Vampire Survivors-like games, Castle Crashers, and Another Crab's Treasure, which is apparently a lot tougher than it sounds. Kris, though, spent a ton of time with NSO, playing through Cobra Triangle, stressing out over Wario's Woods, and actually enjoying Donkey Kong Jr. Math?!? Finally, in Week Old News, chair tossing finds its way into the competitive Mortal Kombat scene, an old Satellaview promotional VHS gets remastered in HD, someone tries to sell The Guy Game at TooManyGames, and more. 18-year-old Theo Hayez had only a few days left in his months-long backpacking adventure. He went out with fellow backpackers on May 31st, 2019 where he was ultimately booted from a bar. This left him alone in a place he was unfamiliar with. Despite putting in the directions to his hostel numerous times, Theo went in the opposite direction. His path and pace that was Google-tracked made it seem he knew exactly where he was going....but how could he? Searches found only his hat and ultimately police deemed it misadventure. But locals, his family, the coroner, and other experts say foul play is absolutely a possibility.

Take a hop across the pond to Ireland's Glenveagh National Park and Castle as we discuss one of its greatest mysteries. For as long as there has been economic inequality, there has been jealousy. From the outside looking in, it's hard to pity someone who seemingly has it all – like a castle for a summer home. Arthur Kingsley Porter aka “The Indiana Jones of Architecture” seemed to have it all, and although it can be easy to judge the Gatsby's of the world, appearances can be deceiving – they can prove that sometimes having it all just isn't enough. What would you do if you had the world, but desperately wanted to leave it all behind? We love our National Parks and we know you do too but when you're out there, remember to enjoy the view but watch your back.
