As we step into the Advent season, this message from Isaiah 40 invites us to slow down and prepare our hearts for Jesus. In a time filled with holiday busyness—meals, travel, gifts, and endless planning—we're reminded that the most important preparation is spiritual. Isaiah's call to “prepare the way of the Lord,” fulfilled in John the Baptist, points us to the first step of true readiness: repentance. In this sermon, we explore God's tender comfort, the unshakable reliability of His Word, and the breathtaking picture of our Savior as both mighty King and gentle Shepherd. Whether you're beginning a relationship with Jesus or returning to a place of honesty and confession, Advent is an invitation to start on the right foot.Come reflect, be encouraged, and draw near to the One who holds His people in His arms and offers forgiveness, hope, and lasting peace.

At Redeemer, we take seriously Jesus' call to "Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." Apprenticeship to Jesus is not a one time decision, but a lifelong journey of following Jesus as our master-teacher. Since the goal of the Christian life is maturity in Jesus, apprenticeship must be deep and holistic, transforming the spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and vocational parts of men and women. Apprenticeship to Jesus is learning to practice the way of Jesus in our homes, relationships, neighborhoods, and jobs. We believe Christlikeness is cultivated as we implement spiritual practices, live in community with other believers, and submit to the Word and the Spirit. We agree with Dallas Willard who said, "that the gospel is opposed to earning, not effort." As we move towards cultivating a life of loving God and people, we trust Christ will mature us into his likeness. https://redeemerwichita.church/

“He has made glorious…Galilee”. As the new day of hope dawned, the first rays of light shone in Galilee. Isaiah foretells that the victory of this Child [v.4-5] will be as unusual and unlikely as the victory over Midian. Unlikely, yes - but it will come, and with it the end of all conflict. The reason this Child is born is so that He might become Immanuel, God with us. His name is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Jesus took our place to give us His peace. Peace floods the soul when Christ rules the heart.

Darkness. Gloom. Despair. Those words don't exactly sound like Christmas, do they? 'Merry & Bright' and 'Joy to the World' is where we generally land. Without the gift of that baby so long ago, though, mourning and desperation would be all this world would know. Think of it like this... it would always be winter, but never Christmas.
