Listeners of Harvest: Greg Laurie Audio that love the show mention:The Bible tells us God is love. Yes, He's loving, but First John 4:8 says God IS love. And it says, “He who does not love does not know God . . .” So it should come as no surprise that hatred is not a part of God's plan for believers. But today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie addresses the hatred we see around us in our culture. What are we as believers to do? Good insight is coming. And a word to parents – the content of today's study may be a little too strong for younger ears. Listen on harvest.org --- Learn more and subscribe to Harvest updates at harvest.org . The cultural definition of a family is quite broad and all-encompassing. It's proudly inclusive. But when we get creative with what a family is, we get creative with how a family works. And if we get too creative, maybe it's time to consult the Creator. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie gets us back to bedrock truth as laid out in God's timeless Word. We'll go back to the 10 Commandments and discuss how to honor God's design for how homes can function best. Listen on harvest.org --- Learn more and subscribe to Harvest updates at harvest.org . If we follow God's blueprint for life, our lives will go better. You can depend on that. If we ignore God's blueprint, our lives will face more challenges and heartache. But sometimes we think we're the exception . . . or this situation is the exception. The sweet aroma of certain decisions can lead to the stench of bad destinations. God Almighty is worthy of all glory and honor. We're mere men and women under the umbrella of His divine authority. So how inappropriate is it to express some kind of disrespect or dishonor to God on high? It's almost a question that doesn't need to be asked. Yet so many dishonor the Lord by using His name inappropriately. Does it bother God? Well, today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out that transgression is mentioned in God's top ten list of commandments. Pastor Greg Laurie starts a new series called, “Joshua: Living in the Land of Promises” with an encouraging message on living a successful Christian life. New believers tend to be on fire: excited for church, Bible studying, having a healthy prayer life. . . But then a backslide happens: going back to the same sins, neglecting prayer and Bible reading. . . In this message we'll see how we can put a stop to that. Notes Joshua is the story of the end of the wilderness wanderings of the Jewish people. God promises spiritual rest to those who believe in Him. Matthew 11:28 Jesus promises eternal life to those who put their faith in Him. John 4:14 Jesus promises a rich and satisfying life to those who follow Him. John 10:10 The promises of God are like gift cards; they need to be claimed. God's promises are exceedingly precious! For years, the Jewish people had cried out for someone to deliver them from Pharoah—God heard their cries and sent Moses to be that man. The Lord guided the Jewish people with the ultimate GPS: cloud by day, fire by night. Just as the Jewish people were slaves in Egypt, we were slaves to sin. Just as they took the Passover lamb and applied the blood to their homes, Jesus was the Passover Lamb slain for us, and we applied His blood in our lives. “Conversion has made our hearts a battlefield.” Ephesians 6:12 Satan does not want you to follow Jesus Christ because he knows we are in the End Times. Revelation 12:12 This is not really a choice of fighting or not fighting; it's a choice of victory or defeat! In the Christian life, you are either an overcomer or you are overcome. Exodus 23:30 “I will drive them out a little at a time…” No addiction needs to control you; no sin needs to have a foothold in your life. “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb.” They focused their attention on the obstacles instead of their objective. When you focus on the obstacles rather than the objective, fear will always eclipse your faith. Read: Joshua 1:1–5 To succeed in the spiritual life, you must overcome fear and admit you need help. Joshua 1:6 “Be strong and of good courage.” Joshua 1:7 “Be strong and very courageous.” Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid.” Joshua 1:5–6 “I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage…” 2 Timothy 1:6–9 To succeed in the spiritual life, you must be consistent. Our job is to be faithful in our generation. Acts 13:36 Joshua 1:5 To succeed in the spiritual life, you must know and keep God's Word. Joshua 1:8 Meditate means, “to ponder, consider, contemplate.” Matthew 13:23 You decide what soil you will be! Matthew 13:23 “They hear and accept God's Word.” Success or failure in our lives depends on how we hear God's Word. Luke 12:48 The golden key to spiritual growth is hearing, receiving, and obeying the Word of God. The military has specific ranks among its service members. Admirals and Generals . . .Captains and Colonels . . . Sergeants and Petty Officers. We each have to make a decision in our relationship with God. Are we sold out . . . or are we a sell out? Are we sold out for the Lord, where He is number one and we don't compromise? Or do we allow ourselves to sell out to the world and its lures? We face that question afresh each and every day. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out that's an issue that's addressed up front in the 10 Commandments, and it's a decision that affects our quality of life. What time is it? No, really. What's the exact time? How do we know what the exact time is? Maybe your clock is a few seconds different from mine. The defacto standard is International Atomic Time, a weighted average of time kept by over 400 atomic clocks in 50 laboratories worldwide. That's the source that's trustworthy. When it comes to right and wrong, Pastor Greg Laurie says the trustworthy standard is God's Word. And we'll consult that standard today on A NEW BEGINNING. One of the great tools to memorization is repetition. If we hear something over and over, we can't help but remember. We didn't intend to memorize the words to that TV theme, or that corny commercial, but they're stuck in our heads. Why? Repetition. The real question is, what do we let our minds hear over and over. But the fact you're listening now is a great step forward. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie brings some scriptural truth worth remembering. Pastor Greg Laurie wraps up our end times series with a look at a modern day miracle and fulfillment of Bible prophecy: the nation Israel. He also focuses on how we should be living as believers waiting for the Lord's return. Notes Israel will be scattered. Israel will be regathered. Israel will regain Jerusalem. Israel will be isolated. Israel will be attacked. Jerusalem will be the focal point of End Times events. Jerusalem has been and always will be the Capital of Israel. Israel will be an “intoxicating drink,” “a heavy stone,” “and a burden for the world.” Zechariah 12:2–3 Never has a nation been able to maintain its national identity, even 300–500 years after being removed from its homeland … until Israel! Read: Ezekiel 37:1–6 Read: Ezekiel 37:11–14 Read: Ezekiel 38:1–11 America needs Israel more than Israel needs America! God made a promise to Abraham and his descendants in Genesis 12:3: “I will bless them that bless you, and I will curse those that curse you.” The Lord will send a national revival to Israel where they turn to Yeshua. The fact that God will pour out His Spirit on Israel shows that she will have a revival. Romans 11:25 God has been pouring out His Spirit on the church, but that time is coming to an end when the last person has come to faith. Then, the Rapture happens. In light of the signs of the times, we will look at a Last Day's believer, Noah. In this dark time, we need to shine as lights. Scripture says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.” A world changer is someone who wants to change the culture. A world changer is a follower of Jesus Christ, and they affect their surroundings more than their surroundings affect them. A world changer, like Noah, are thermostats, not thermometers; they control the temperature and set the pace. Noah was commanded to build a giant boat. Hebrews 11:7 Remember: The Ark was built by amateurs; The Titanic was built by professionals. God revealed secrets to Noah. Christians know things the world does not. It seems to be that openhearted Christians know we are in the Last Days. Noah had a great reverence for God. “Noah moved with Godly fear.” Hebrews 11:7 To fear God does not mean we cower in fear before Him; it means we revere Him. God gave us the rainbow to remind us of His promise! The last page in the Bible states that we win in the end! One of the signs of the times is people will not think these are the Last Days. 2 Peter 3:3 Jesus told us our last days would be just like Noah's time. Matthew 24:37–44 Noah walked with God when no one else did. Genesis 6:9 The prophet, Amos gives us a key as to what it means to walk with God. “Shall two walk together, except they have agreed?” Amos 3:3 Noah was a witness for God. 2 Peter 2:5 “By faith, Noah being divinely warned of things not yet seen.” Hebrews 11:7 A world changer will draw their family to Christ; but those changed by the world, drive their family from Christ. Noah has great reverence for God. Noah walked with God when no one else did. Noah was a witness for God. Smart grocery shoppers pay attention to expiration dates. You may see a dozen cartons of milk on the shelf . . . but a careful look shows that the expiration dates on some cartons are much further into the future. GPS systems have come a long way over the years. They not only can show the best route, but traffic along the way, coffee stores, gas stations and fast food. Wedding vows are pledges of loyalty and faithfulness to a spouse. You never hear a groom promising to “love, honor and cherish, but I'm still going to date some other girls on the side.” A good relationship is defined by how much we do for the other...not by how much we can get away with just ‘cause we want to. They kept you from making a mistake. How are you influencing others...no not in the products they buy but how they pattern their life? Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie returns to our studies of the life of Moses to consider what kind of influence we want to have on those friends around us. Certain advertisers used to be guilty of something called “Bait and Switch.” The consumer would get lured into the store by something the advertiser had no plan to deliver. So it goes with the way our adversary tries to bait us with his temptations...but sin never delivers guilt-free pleasure. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie takes us to an important case in point in the life of one of the Bible's great Old Testament patriarchs. We'll learn from his experience. The world has a knack for attempting to put a happy face on some deep, dark times of crisis. “What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.” “Don't worry, be happy.” “Look on the bright side.” But sometimes an earthquake so shakes our lives that there doesn't seem to be a bright side. But...don't mountains rise from earthquakes? Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us see how God can help us rise above our pain, and He can put our past to use in the most fulfilling ways. Imagine sitting in the driver's seat of your parked car. And you start disassembling your steering wheel. You loosen the nut that holds your steering wheel in place. Now, the steering wheel is barely connected to your front wheels. Are you willing to hit the open highway without that control? Only if you like ditches. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, from the series Heroes of the Bible, Pastor Greg Laurie points out some people choose to do that with their very lives...and wind up in some kind of ditch. Funambulism is the skill of walking the tightrope...the high wire. And performers face mortal danger...it's a long way down. The last thing they want (literally) is to make it only half way across the high wire. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out it's even more important to finish the race of life well. There's mortal danger, there's uncertainty and breathless moments. But thankfully, when we fall, the Lord is there to catch us and restore us. Listen on harvest.org --- Learn more and subscribe to Harvest updates at harvest.org . Scripture warns us that wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction. Lots of folks going that way. It's the way that “seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie shows us an alternative. He helps us through the narrow gate. It won't make us popular or politically correct. But better to live in a way that's pleasing to God, even if it displeases people, rather than the other way around. Even in the Lord's Prayer, we say the words “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Thomas Fuller once wrote, “He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself; for every man has need to be forgiven.” Today, on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie takes us to the life of Joseph, an outstanding biblical example of forgiveness and what fruit can come of that selfless action. God has great promises for believers who are living in the last days—of which the Rapture is one of the greatest. Listen in as Pastor Greg Laurie explores what the Bible says about this future event and how it changes the way you live today. Notes When a believer dies, they go to Heaven, because death means separation, not annihilation. Humans do not cease to exist; we simply change our address. Our physical bodies will be transformed at the Rapture. The world itself will not end or cease to exist, but this evil age will come to an end (1 John 2:17). One of the signs of the end times is a greater awareness of Bible prophecy (Daniel 12:4). The return of Jesus Christ is described for us many times in Scripture. There are over 300 passages that deal with Christ's return, and one verse in 25 mentions the Lord's return. One of the big signs of the Last Days is the gathering of Israel to their homeland. Scripture tells us Israel will be attacked (Ezekiel 38; 39). After Israel is attacked, God will pour out His Spirit on them in a great revival (Romans 11:25). If the Antichrist is close, the coming of Jesus Christ is even closer! What is the Rapture? It is when Christ descends from Heaven, and we are caught up to meet the Lord—it is the moment we receive our new bodies. The word rapture is used 13 times in the New Testament, and it means, “to take forcibly, snatch, or caught up.” Why is there a rapture? In Heaven, not only will you be with your loved ones, but you'll be with Jesus Himself, too! That is why the Christian grieves hopefully, not hopelessly. “A continual looking forward to the eternal world is not a form of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a Christian is meant to do.” —C. S. Lewis When is the Rapture? “About that day, no one knows the day or hour, not even the angels, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Matthew 24:36). The Rapture will happen in a moment of time, effectively immeasurable (1 Corinthians 15:51–52). When Christ returns for us in the Rapture, first up is the resurrection of the dead, then all who are alive will meet them in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17). Following the Rapture will come the emergence of Antichrist with the Tribulation Period. In the Rapture, Jesus comes in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17). In the Second Coming, Jesus comes to the Earth (Zechariah 14:4). In the Rapture, Jesus comes for His bride. In the Second Coming, Jesus comes with His bride. In the Rapture, Jesus comes like a thief in the night. In the Second Coming, the whole Earth sees Him. In the Rapture, He comes before judgment. In the Second Coming, Jesus comes with judgment. “If you knew the Lord would return tonight, how would you spend the rest of the day? I wouldn't do anything different than I do every day.” —D. L. Moody We should be shining lights in a dark place (Luke 12:35). As a church, we need to be more known for what we are than what we're against! The same sun that softens the wax, hardens the clay. The same message that transforms one life can cause another to say, “I don't believe!” Scripture Referenced Acts 8:2 Matthew 24:48–49 Ephesians 5:18 --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. God has never encountered a problem or a crisis too big for Him to handle. He's never said, “Uh-oh.” So when we encounter something we can't handle, we need to look to our God who can handle anything.
