Scripture: Exodus 20:1-2 What are the Ten Words? We read in Exodus 20:1, “And God spoke all these words.” “Words is referring to the Ten Commandments God spoke on Mount Sinai to Moses. God's Ten Commandments are found in the rest of Exodus 20 and also in Deuteronomy 5. Because these commandments are unnumbered in the Bible, there have been several ways these 10 Words have been numbered, but it doesn't matter how you number them - what matters is whether you listen to them or not. Exodus 20:2 God continues, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” He is saying He's the Israelite's Deliverer from bondage in Eqypt. We can also see this truth throughout Scripture as well when God promised to send a Savior and then sent the Messiah, Jesus Christ to Deliver His people from the bondage of sin. Deliverance - God is the One who saves and all commandments flow from this statement of God's deliverance for His children. It's not that we are saved by obeying the commands. It is God who saves us. He is the Deliverer but in response to His work we desire to do what His 10 Words teach. We cannot earn His favor, rather it's God that has shown us His favor by being our Deliverer. Deliverance is at the heart of all 10 Words. Two dangers around the Ten Words: ⁃ Pride. Thinking we have been good, or at least better than others. Or that we can earn God's favor, but we ALL have sinned which means we all need to be rescued. We need a Savior because we cannot measure up to a holy God. (We are not measured against others, the measure is against a perfect, holy God and we all have failed) Only Jesus has obeyed the Father fully. Only Jesus lived the perfect life we could not. Only Jesus the perfect Lamb could shed His blood for our sin and save us. ⁃ Rebellion. Some of us refuse to believe there is a god. Others do what they think is “good.” Others may even question is there really good and bad and choose to ignore anything or anyone that says differently. The religious also rebel in thinking that “if God loves me and Jesus came to die for me, than I'm saved by His grace through faith so sin is not that big of a thing - I can do what I please, it doesn't really matter because I'm saved.” But this too is deception and it is rebelling against the plan and purpose of God. What is the purpose of the Ten Commandments for those who know God and trust in Jesus? What about the unbeliever, how do these commandments speak into their lives. God desires to call us ALL to the truth, to deliver us all from bondage to rebellion and foolishness and pride. His desire is to have us come face to face with Him and His love for each one of us. Consider God's commandments as an Owner's Manual, like an owner's manual for your car. The car's maker tells the best ways to care for the vehicle. The Ten Commandments are God's Owner's Manual for His people. This “manual” shows us how to care for what our Maker made, how to live well, how to live as a thank You note to God. Understanding God as our Deliverer, through faith in our Savior, changes how we look at the Commandments. Rather than a list of “dos” and “don'ts” we see them as God's way of showing us how to have a meaningful life for all and to help us create a meaningful culture for all. Our Maker knows what's best for us. His words give direction and purpose for our lives. How does God use the Ten Commandments? 1. As a CURB - to keep us on the right path. 2. As a MIRROR - to show us our faults. As a mirror we see how we need a Savior, especially in a culture that is so far off the narrow path. 3. As a GUIDE - for Him to lovingly direct His will over our sinful nature. The Ten Commandments are a response to God's deliverance and we can look at them as the Owner's Manual spoken by our Maker. Will we use this Owner's Manual and will we let it be our curb, mirror and guide that points us back to the truth of our need for a Savior? https://www.awakeusnow.com Check out the video from our website: https://www.awakeusnow.com/ten-words Check out the video on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@AwakeUsNow/streams Watch via our app. Text HELLO to 888-364-4483 to download our app.

We're closing out with a somewhat less-than-well-known mocumentary about a fictional film team attempting to make a movie covering the entire Bible. God Spoke and It was GoodSeries: Foundations: Genesis 1 & 2 Preacher: Cory BrockSunday MorningDate: 20th October 2024Passage: Genesis 1:1-25
As a young woman in an Islamic culture in Central Asia, Sara was drawn to stories of Jesus. He was a good man, she thought, one whose life matched his teachings. But how could Jesus be God? Sara wrestled deeply with this question in her search for truth. Intellectually, she found the Bible to be true, but she couldn't commit to everything it said. Eternal life was attractive, but the idea that Jesus was God was confusing to her. Sara poured herself into studying different religions, desperate to figure out how she could be confident she'd go to heaven when she died. She prayed, “God, there should be only one way to you.” Sara loved the Bible study she joined at a local church. She was attracted by the love Christians had for each other, even being willing to share their weaknesses and struggles. Everything about Jesus and his followers was attractive to Sara. After so much study and so many questions, Sara heard God's voice—speaking to her in her own language. “You need to make a decision.” She knew it was God himself speaking with love, authority, gentleness, and power. Sara remembered reading John 14:6 where Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and they life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Listen to hear how Sara came to understand Jesus as the perfect sacrifice for her sin and the peace he gave to overcome her anxieties. Join us next week to hear the price Sara paid for her faith in Christ.

“What would the Bible look like if God spoke through Moses, David, and Paul today?”Today's guest got his idea while browsing an airport bookstore. He realized that all the nonfiction books were formatted differently from his Bible and he started thinking about what would make the Scriptures easier for modern readers to understand. And so, the Readable Bible came came to life. Its unique format reveals concepts in Scripture that you may never have noticed before.Find out more at readablebible.com.

God spoke to Himself. Why?
Yep! Shawna had the Muppets song stuck in her mind for months before looking up the lyrics . As she read them, she knew God was speaking to her, “It’s time!” In Perry’s senior year at college he became acutely aware of the sins of his teenage years. He felt he deserved judgement. That’s when his heart really came alive to the truth of “No condemnation!” Shawna’s friend has been feeling anxious and fearful about the election, what it will mean for her, for our country. Perry’s been feeling anxious about his suffering friend and his dad. What do we do when anxiety overwhelms? Our culture screams, “It’s all about you!” So do our own hearts. We fall into entitlement and self-importance and forget who we really are. To recover the truth of who we really are, everything that we’re looking to for our identity must be stripped away. God is our rescuer. And He’s really good at it. He rescued Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego from a fiery furnace and afterward they didn’t even smell like smoke! He can rescue you and me, completely! Shawna’s friend set up a meeting with the school so he could advocate for his adopted daughter with special needs. As he was telling her about it Shawna couldn’t help but think, “That’s what God does for me!”Support the show: https://give.moodyradio.org/fall-share?v=def&appeal=MRWM&_gl=1%2a142i9we%2a_ga%2aNTE4MTE5MmUtY2U1Yy00YmQ3LWU4MmUtNjEwYTQ5YzAyODRj%2a_ga_4WH1937046%2aMTY5NTExODEwMS4yOTkuMC4xNjk1MTE4MTAxLjYwLjAuMA..&_ga=2.197426156.215784306.1695059984-1182841406.166859587See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

WHAT CATCHES THE EYE AND HEART OF GOD? Part 7 Surprises-part two 1. IT'S SURPRISING THAT GOD SPEAKS TO US Deism and Theism Deism suggests--God created the world much like clock maker would create a clock, and God wound it up and tossed it out into the universe to just let it run on its own. Theism suggests--God created the world much like a Father with children and He remains intimately involved with His creation. “God SAID, ‘Let there be light and there was light…'” Genesis 1:3 “Long ago God SPOKE many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets.” Hebrews 1:1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God…So the Word became human and made his home among us.” John 1:1, 14 I MUST BE READY 2. IT'S SURPRISING HOW GOD SPEAKS TO US God speaks through the Bible The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It is God's way of making us well prepared at every point. 2 Timothy 3:16 Get a modern translation of the Bible and Read it. God speaks through gifted teachers When we preached to you, you didn't think of the words as being just our own, but you accepted it as the very Word of God -- which, of course, it was -- and it changed your lives. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 We do not speak in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual truths. 1 Corinthians 2:13 Make Sunday a priority...be here every week when possible God speaks through quiet promptings The Holy Spirit will be your teacher and will bring to your mind all that I have said to you. John 14:26 11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. 13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:11-13 “Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10 To hear God's still voice, I must get still 3. IT'S SURPRISING WHEN GOD SPEAKS TO US God Speaks IN PAIN Sometimes it takes a painful experience to make us change our ways. Proverbs 20:30 God Speaks ON TIME The Lesson from Murline: God is not always on our time, but God is always on time! Story of Lazarus--John 11

[Heb 1:1-2] The Psalms lay the foundation for the Prophets, hundreds of years beforehand. There are 7 Old Testament passages referenced in Hebrews 1, all from the Psalms and 2 Sam 7, not the prophets. Hebrews is a book of contrasts between the New Covenant and the Old Covenant, and the introduction highlights that God spoke long ago in type/shadow/Promise through Prophets (OT) vs reality/Fulfillment (NT) in Jesus. Jesus is the foundation of everything: our life and hope, the alpha and omega of Christianity
