Today’s sermon was given by special guest, Jeff Walther. He has spent many years in radio and teaching at Georgian College, until recently retiring. He is a long time member of our church and spends some Sundays giving Sermons at churches in our area as well as at our very own when Pastor Ruttan is away (like today). His Sermon is titled ‘Always winter, never Christmas', a take on C.S. Lewis quote from The lion, the witch and the wardrobe. The essence of the piece is imagining the world as if Jesus had never been born and highlighting the positive influence he has had through history.

Penn and Katya travel through the wardrobe into Narnia to cover the classic children's story "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" by CS Lewis. The biblical parallels are off the chain, but even despite that, the book is alluring in the possibility of traveling to different worlds.
Adventurous Living - The Meadow Springs Community Church Podcast
Darkness. Gloom. Despair. Those words don't exactly sound like Christmas, do they? 'Merry & Bright' and 'Joy to the World' is where we generally land. Without the gift of that baby so long ago, though, mourning and desperation would be all this world would know. Think of it like this... it would always be winter, but never Christmas.

In Isaiah 11 we learned that the Branch breaks the curse.
In his classic work “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” C.S. Lewis paints a picture of Narnia under the rule of the White Witch as a place where it is “always winter, but never Christmas.” Lewis used the imagery to describe the world under the influence of sin and death, but the analogy also proves a fitting description for nations struggling under communist rule. This Christmas marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Soviet Union on Dec. 26, 1991. Sadly, millions of people across the globe still live under oppressive, totalitarian regimes in countries like Cuba and China. Many young Americans today are advocates for communism and socialism because they aren't familiar with the history of communist nations, says Brenda Hafera, a senior policy analyst at The Heritage Foundation. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.)On today's edition of the "Problematic Women" podcast, we discuss the bleak realities of communism and what should be done to educate the next generation on the realities of socialism. Also on today's show, we celebrate the holiday season with some Christmas trivia, plus we crown five of the most "Problematic Women” of 2021. Listen to the podcast below. Pop Punk The Aughts Episode 4: Addicted The man in the suit climbed to his feet sans stilts and pants and he stood before the boys in boxer shorts with dollar signs on them. "Whoa. I don't remember Muggsy being THIS short," exclaimed Cameron. "I'm not him, asshole!" The man yelled. "He's just my hero. That's why I wear his jersey. My name's Frederick McCormick and this here's my circus." "We were told you had some pop punk acts here. Is it just the bears or…" Memphis trailed off. "Oh those are just for the tourists," Frederick said, dusting himself off. He walked over to the nearby wall, slid back a panel and pressed a button to an intercom. "Hey Jerry, can I get a new pair of pants?" Frederick spoke into the speaker. "Regular-size pleased. Oh and have somebody reset the bears. We're doing something different with our guests." A garbled "Right away, Boss" came back through the speaker. "Now, how do you boys feel about Simple Plan?" Frederick said with an eerie smile. "Oh, fuck me. Not again." John grumbled as he finished tying his shoes. "Are they here? We heard that Jeff guy is pretty cool," Cameron said. "Right this way, gentleman" Frederick said with a bow. It was soon interrupted by a man in a panda suit appearing from a hidden door. He handed Frederick a pair of dress pants. "Goddammit, Jerry. Not while I'm being dramatic." What happens next? Jesus' meeting with the woman at the well takes place in the long winter season of not just her personal life, but in Jewish history. Rev. Jasmine Flores provides historical, cultural, and spiritual context to help us see Jesus is not just bringing salvation to her, but to an entire nation in this encounter. This radical conversation directly challenges and seeks to dismantle the prejudices and culture of the time, an example we can seek to follow today. Jesus restores her life and dignity by revealing to her that he is the living water she has been thirsting for, freeing her to enter a new way of living and worshipping God. Rev. Jasmine Flores highlights the Samaritan Woman's ezer likeness as the first evangelist, helping birth a new nation that will worship in spirit and in truth. Jasmine currently teaches Chinese in public middle school and is the founding pastor of Ignite Prayer Church. Jasmine and her husband, Rev. Tom Hui, are both ordained pastors. Together they parent and homeschool their three China-Rican children. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/womenofwonder/support

This episode is about the profound need all human beings have for closure. In the story of “the lion the witch and the wardrobe” the faun Mr. tummnis identified the source of the problem in the land of Narnia, “It is winter in Narnia,” said Mr. Tumnus, “and has been for ever so long…. always winter, but never Christmas.” Only God can end our never-ending winters.
In this episode of Fic Clique, your hosts discuss "Headlights in the Snow" by Saras_Girl (Harry Potter), "The New Homeowner's Survival Guide" by almostblue (BTS rpf), and "Always Winter" by halotolerant (TinTin/Chronicles of Narnia). Sunday Service - December 15, 2019 - Gary Stebbins
Always winter, never Christmas is a dreadful thought for those of us that live in MN! Winters are long, dark and cold. We need the warmth that Christmas brings! December 21st will be the shortest day of the year with 9 hours and 20 minutes of sunshine. But after that day the daylight hours get longer. On June 21st we will have 15 hours and 2 minutes of sunshine. That’s hopeful! Always winter, never Christmas leaves one feeling hopeless. However, at just the right time God sent His son on that first Christmas (Gal 4:4) to offer hope and joy and bring light and warmth to our dark cold world.
But, for many of us, it’s our Winter seasons that seem to last the longest - if not in duration, then in intensity. Our Winters are those seasons characterized by darkness. They’re times of forced inactivity and isolation. Our winters are when our circumstances, relationships, and emotions are lifeless, or at least appear to be.
Married to the Media: Media Literacy for Parents, Children, and Family
In wrapping up our Christmas movie reviews before taking our holiday break, Cass and Pastor Robin tackle an oldie but a goodie: The Chronicles of Narnia. Around the time of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, the Chronicles of Narnia was a fantasy movie series that was geared towards a more family-friendly audience. This is clear not only in the messaging of the source material itself, but the way it was adapted for the silver screen. While a little long and maybe a bit scary for 5 or 6 year-olds, Pastor Robin and Cass totally recommend this movie for a holiday movie night for kids older than 7. Snuggle up and pop some corn; it's time for Married to the Media!

The evil witch controls Narnia, but "Aslan is on the move." Do you ever feel hopeless? What if God were on the move in your life ?
This first podcast on the Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe gives an introduction to C.S. Lewis and the book. Then it turns to two deep truths found in this supposed child's book. First, what it is like to deal with hopelessness and depression - what it is like to live in a world of grey where it is always winter but never Christmas. But next it takes us to a deeper truth - the fact that the redemption of God cannot be stopped, that Aslan is on the move, that right at the coldest day of winter is when the spring begins. We look at Isaiah 9:2-7, 1 Peter 3, Romans 15:4, 1 Peter 1:13, and discover that the Chronicles of Narnia actually point us to the biblical reality of being a people who walked in darkness but have seen a great light.
