Send us a textIn 2024, I took a personal journey to seek refuge in the Lord. I meditated on Psalm 139, Proverbs 3, Luke 22, Isaiah 40, and everything in between byt following The Bible Recap. I did not record, publish or interview as I retreated to hear God's voice and will for my life and mininstry. How did he want to use this testimony I have been trusted with? I pray if my story offends or hurts anyone that you would forgive me and offer grace I don't deserve. I only want to serve the Lord. This is the story of why resting was needed and how my joy and hope have been restored.Want to support the show? Like, share, subscribe, follow, or leave a review! Have you heard of the “Paradox of Generosity”? It goes like this: the more you give, the better off you are; but, very few people are especially generous. Why is that? This week on Consuming Careers, we're meeting with Chris Gabriel who discovered his purpose and passion (and his training) has equipped him to not only be generous, but to build a framework to help others, if done wisely and well, be generous in ways that can make a transformational impact on the giver, receiver, society and the world. You'll hear that a significant inspiration for Chris' generosity journey is City of Refuge in Atlanta, a faith-based environment that helps individuals and families transition out of crisis. And that's where we catch up with Chris for breakfast…Find out more about Chris' book “WISEgenerosity: A Guide to Purposeful and Productive Living and Giving” at: https://wisegenerosity.com/You can find Chris Gabriel by email: chris@wisegenerocity.com or on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chris-gabriel-cima%C2%AE-200a952/Our interview was recorded live in the Workforce Innovation Hub at City of Refuge in Atlanta, Georgia: https://www.cityofrefugeatl.org/About Bruce Smith: Over the past 40 years, I've covered a lot of ground in my career: white collar, blue collar, college drop-out, college graduate, practicing CPA, multiple business owner, elected official, recruiter and career consultant. The main theme highlighted here is that God has and is establishing His people as a nation in the land of Canaan. Most of the land has been conquered and now being portioned out to the twelve tribes of Israel. Two things remain. The portioning of the land for cities of refuge and for the levites. Of the 48 Levite cities, six of them, are to become the cities of refuge. God displays His concern for His people by showing Justice and mercy. For the one who accidentally kills someone, they can flee to the the city of refuge and after due process if found innocent will be protected and cared for by the city. The only way the accidental killer can go back to his home town is when the High Priest who was serving passes away. Then that person is able to go back home with no record or fear of revenge. The Church is called to be the city of refuge (little c), because our King is our City of refuge (Big C - Christ).
In this episode, we hear how an Oakland pastor turns the tables on homophobia in the Church. We hear the good word at the City of Refuge. Then, we learn about the Bay Area's long history of chocolate connoisseurs. And, we get to know one of KALW's DJs, Patrick King Most.
