Smart D8, one of five Smart Districts of the Smart Dublin programme designed to improve health and well-being in an urban population, has today announced the successful applicants from their third call for pilot projects. Smart D8 is led by The Digital Hub, St James's Hospital, Dublin City Council and Smart Dublin. A record number of 60 applications from private and public organisations were received following the pilot call in March. Four projects have now been selected which focus on menopause, physical rehabilitation, exercise and sleep apnea and will share a €50,000 fund to advance their existing work: Menopause and the City from Dr Louise Fitzgerald of Grafton Medical Practice/InforMD.ie: This pilot is seeking to create a better educational ecosystem around menopause health for both individuals as well as families and friends. A project with truly scalable potential, Dr Louise Fitzgerald is aiming for Dublin 8 to become the centre of the first city-wide approach to positive menopause education and support. Brace from Conor Motyer: Brace is a community-based recovery app which seeks to assist patients who are undergoing physical rehabilitation. With an added focus on the mental wellness aspect of rehabilitation, Brace uses exercise tracking, gamification and community support to improve both recovery engagement and mental health outcomes arising from research that has found that rehab program completion rates can be as low as 50%. MoveAhead from Dr Jamie McGann and Dr Johann Issartel: MoveAhead is based on years of clinical experience from both founders, as well as practical research carried out with the GAA, which has found that children's movement skills are deteriorating in line with increased use of screens and technology. MoveAhead is the world's first motion tracking and movement analytics platform built specifically for children, which informs games to assist with improving children's movement skills. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) Identifier from Dr Brian Kent/St James's Hospital: OSA Identifier is seeking to reduce the wait time for a sleep apnea diagnosis, which is currently up to two years. OSA Identifier has developed an app to provide at-home data which can be reviewed by clinical specialists, and both inform and speed up diagnosis and treatment options for sleep apnea. Jack Lehane, Smart D8 Ecosystem Manager, said: “We were really impressed with the quality of applications for our most recent call for pilots. With the four successful projects, we are confident that they have the potential to address issues and conditions that are impacting large numbers of people. One thing which particularly stood out was the potential many of them have to scale. At the heart of Smart D8 is cross-sectoral collaboration that allows healthcare innovation to be fast-tracked, and these projects will greatly enable this.” The Smart D8 consortium is led by The Digital Hub, St James's Hospital, Dublin City Council and Smart Dublin, together with the Guinness Enterprise Centre, HSE Digital Transformation, Tyndall National Institute, St Patrick's Mental Health Services, Trinity College Dublin Research & Innovation, Trinity Translational Medicine Institute, National College of Art & Design, and Health Innovation Hub Ireland. The initial work of Smart D8 focused on significant community research to measure unmet population health and wellness needs. Following on from this research, a number of pilot projects were actioned to directly respond to this community feedback. A range of innovations have already been rolled out with positive impacts on population health and well-being - reaching over 5,000 citizens in and around the Dublin 8 district before scaling nationally. These initiatives include Heart of Our City which aimed at improving awareness around and management of cardiovascular disease in the community; Civic Dollars, which enabled people to earn digital currency through spending time in local parks; and Ways To Wellbeing, wh...

My first go round at this, and I got to have an incredible and enlightening conversation that I can't wait for y'all to hear. Over 30 years ago, 12 friends sat down and came up with an idea that would make volunteering in their community easier and more accessible, from there Hands On Atlanta was born. Hands On has become a one-stop shop to bring together Atlanta volunteers and nonprofits. Their organization supports over 150 nonprofits in the Atlanta area and has daily opportunities for volunteers. From one time micro-volunteering, to a full year program with AmeriCorps there's something to fit everyone's schedule. Listen in as I sit down with Jay Cranman, President and CEO, of Hands On Atlanta to hear about the good work they're doing and how we can each step up to help meet the needs of others. Matthew s a wicked awesome cat, so much fun to chat it out with him. He shared how he got started with film photography and his connection to skateboarding with it. We talked about punk music and going to live shows. He shared how he get involved with Filmphotographic and his involvement with Our City which was a cool exhibition. Then we finished off with being old but still rocking skate style haha. Matt was wicked rad. Looking forward to seeing him at PolaCon Bay Area in 2023.“A little about me, I've been photographing in general since I was 15 started with skateboarding because I wasn't a strong skater but they gang needed a filmer and photog so I got into it. Live in a small northern ca town called Rio Vista which is on the CA delta. I got back into primarily shooting film in 2015-16 when I joined Instagram and found out a lot of people still shot it and found some great communities. I've been lucky to be apart of 3 filmphotographic group shows. As of recent I was BetterOff Zine's feature no. 6 photographer and currently enjoy going to different areas of CA when I can and documenting what I see.”Follow Matthew at https://www.instagram.com/mattoriousfilmphoto/Photography Chat is a weekly Instagram Live @merlindb hosts every Thursday at 5pmPST/8pmESTGive me a follow if you want to see the episodes live https://www.instagram.com/merlindb/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/photographychat/donations
Amit Asaravala is the President of the Poway Democratic Club. Amit joined me to discuss the tremendous surge of money in Poway politics, the changing voting demographics in Poway, and information on their endorsed candidates. Poway Campaign Finance The financial data was the most eye-opening. Individual people can donate up to $250 for a specific candidate. Amit Asaravala shared that even on the individual level, Poway candidate Brian Pepin has raised approximately $70,000. This is far greater than the typical $10,000 to $15,000 we would see in a typical district election. Over 80% of his donors are from outside of Poway. Meanwhile, there are political action committees involved in Poway politics attempting to influence the outcome in our local races. These PACs do not have a campaign limit and they receive big dollars from developers, housing contractors, and other individuals. Then the PACs cycle the money to other PACs who end up creating negative campaign ads against candidates that they oppose. Often these ads are heavily distorted and meant to scare the public. Community Voices, the San Diego Police Officers Association, and the Lincoln Club are players in this space. Poway Voter Demographics We also discussed the changing voter registration numbers for Poway. Our “City in the Country” has been a strong “red” city for a long time, but now things are changing. The Democrat voter registration has almost caught up with the Republicans. In fact, more Powegians voted for Biden than Trump in the 2020 election. Could this mean that the Poway Democratic Club's endorsed candidates might have a serious shot at beating Steve Vaus and the other GOP candidates? We also discussed Delta Esparza's candidacy, Hiram Soto's former employer Alliance San Diego, Kevin Juza's text messaging campaign, and PUSD candidate Frida Brunzell. Special thanks to our livestream audience for the great comments and questions. Welcome to a new season of Stories of Our City—real stories from real people around the globe. This week's story comes from Lima, Peru. The daughter of Mexican immigrants to the United States who was born during the Great Depression, Gloria Aguilera Nichtawitz (Nēsh-ta-vitz) has a can-do spirit that perseveres. Coming from a line of honest, hardworking people, she found a way through various obstacles and challenges to realize her dream of helping others around the world through nursing.
Thank you for joining Joshua "The World's Mayor" and Kelly Ann Winget for a powerful discussion about empowering women, minorities and making a way for those who are normally left behind. "I started my career in a male-dominated sales space, and I've been crashing through glass ceilings ever since. I've spent years working behind the curtain on over 700 Million dollars worth of private investments. I believe that money is very powerful, and in the hands of women, it can be even more powerful." - Kelly Ann Winget. Kelly Ann Winget, the 30-something-year-old CEO and founder of Dallas-based private equity firm, Alternative Wealth Partners, has raised almost 15 million dollars in her first fund in less than 12 months. with some dividends hitting investors' accounts in less than 30 days from when they invested. Kelly Ann has over a decade of experience in alternative investment, sourcing creative capital for startups, oil & gas companies, manufacturing ventures, real estate, and several other emerging markets. Additionally, Kelly Ann charges no upfront or additional management fees–all costs associated with running the fund come out of her 20% GP split. Breaking through glass ceilings in the financial sector is not her only challenge. Being a young gay female in a predominately older male-dominated space has also had its challenges. However, those struggles have created a strong foundation within her, helping her guide other women into financial freedom. Every day she works to redirect the financial narrative about women towards one of full possibility, plausibility, and excitement. Not only is she a spark but also the kindling, firing up other women to likewise pursue their own financial independence and sovereignty. Kelly Ann has been strongly championing women in various pursuits in 2022. Such as being actively involved with and an investor for Ellevest, the #1 investing platform for women by women. A pinnacle sponsor at the REBNY event: New York Forever: A Celebration of Our City, where she represented women as investors in the real estate space. She created and hosted a FemCoin event for the Women of Crypto at the Consensus 2022 festival in Austin, Texas. And she recently launched Fashion Full Circle, LLC with co-founder Sterling Woerner. This Texas-based company aims to create opportunities for women to step into their power and lead change in their communities. “Good things happen when women support women in business. Kelly Ann Winget has been a champion for women in finance and as an investor in Ellevest, is committed to getting more money into the hands of women.” – Sallie Krawcheck, CEO + Co-Founder, Ellevest Thank you for being a part of this segment of Joshua “The World's Mayor” on the Live Mana Network, brought to you by the Live Mana Worldwide Foundation. A neuroscientist-turned-artist, Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, has long known how to “make the invisible visible,” as her artist statement declares. Her ability to make intricate scientific concepts accessible through art and design earned her a TED residency as well as the opportunity to speak on two TED mainstages. Her numerous works — including an AR installation immersing viewers in the world of microbes and “Beyond Curie,” a project that harnessed both technology and design to celebrate the most badass women in STEM history — have been featured in spaces all over the world, from a highway tunnel in the Netherlands to New York's Cooper Union. In the last couple of years, Amanda has focused her talents on engaging with and revealing often-hidden parts of the human psyche, from the bigotry and racist violence that have reared their heads throughout the country to the cumulative trauma and grief of the COVID crisis. As an artist-in-residence with the New York City Commission on Human Rights, she created a citywide mural project titled “I Still Believe in Our City” to counter anti-Asian violence and center the lives and experiences of Asian Americans and people of color as crucial threads in the American fabric. Soon after the shootings at a spa in Atlanta in 2021, Time magazine featured images from the series on its cover.Pier Carlo Talenti spoke to Amanda while she was taking a brief break from troubleshooting one in a series of installations on Lincoln Center plaza in New York City. In this interview she describes the challenges and joys of expanding her artistic practice to invite even more collaborators — from institutions to the public at large — into her creations.https://www.alonglastname.com/https://www.istillbelieve.nyc/abouthttps://www.lincolncenter.org/series/summer-for-the-city/s/GATHER:%20A%20series%20of%20monuments%20and%20rituals

What worked and what failed in a brilliant experiment to increase productivity, income, and quality time.ABOUT STEPHANStephan Aarstol founded beach lifestyle inspired, direct to consumer eBike brand Tower Electric Bikes in 2018. This is a diversified sister company tacked onto established direct to consumer SUP company Tower Paddle Boards, the most searched brand name in paddle boards, which after funded by Mark Cuban on ABC's Shark Tank in 2021 went on to become one of the biggest success stories in the history of the show. In 2014, Tower was named the fastest growing private company in San Diego and the following year they ranked #239 on the INC 500 list of America's fastest growing companies. To date, under the guidance of CEO Stephan Aarstol, they have done well over $40 Million in sales and their growth continues. Stephan has been an internet business executive since 1999, and founded his first DTC company in 2003. He speaks regularly at Harvard discussing the HBS case study "Selling on Amazon at Tower Paddle Boards," and he and his company were highlighted by Jeff Bezo's himself in Walter Isaacson's latest book on Bezo's titled “Invent & Wander”. Stephan earned an MBA from the University of San Diego in 1999, and today is in their Alumni Hall of Honor. In 2019, he was named Entrepreneur of the Year at his undergrad alma mater, Western Washington University. In 2015, to challenge long held delusions about unhealthy start-up work culture, Stephan moved his whole company to a 5-hour workday and would later write a book titled “The Five Hour Workday” about the experience, which would spread the idea to tens of millions of people worldwide, and get press in over 20 countries (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and more). He was subsequently hailed, "The World's Best Boss" by Hamburg Germany's #2 newspaper, MorgenPost, and "America's Best Boss" by the UK's Daily Mail. In 2017 Stephan was named to Our City's 2017 list of the Top 10 Most Influential Business Leaders in San Diego.Tower was named to Internet Retailer's 2016 "Hot 100" list of the world's most innovative e-retailers, and while a relatively recent entrant into the booming electric bike market, Tower and founder Stephan Aarstol's proven record of success in the contemporary direct to consumer (“DTC”) brand world will surely lead to them taking a leading brand position within in the market over the coming decade. In addition to his Shark Tank appearance, Stephan has been featured nationally on CNN Money, CNBC's Power Lunch, the Huffington Post, ABC's Beyond the Tank, Fox & Friends, 20/20, Fortune Magazine, People Magazine, and the Adam Corrolla Show.
