Upon arriving in Rome, Paul is granted leniency to live under house arrest guarded by a soldier while he awaits an audience with Caesar Nero. Due to what Paul had already gone through and the fate he knew awaited him, his peace was not dependent on "perfect situations but on God's perfect love".  Paul never lost his perspective, which he declared,  "I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I but Christ lives in me and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for Me." In these verses Peter gives one of the greatest sermons in all of the New Testament. He begins by stating that the Gospel rests in history. The long-awaited Messiah has already come. God made this promise to Abraham, Moses affirmed it, Samuel the first prophet and every prophet following made the same declaration. Just as Peter spoke to those who were present that day, his words continue to speak to us today. Open your ears and eyes, the Messiah has come, to be your Savior.  Dave Bartlett

Isaiah has words of encouragement and hope for us today. We can at times feel weak and unusable to the Lord. However, the Lord through the prophet Isaiah speaks words that when we are feeling weak, and the flame of our faith seems as if it is growing more dim, the Lord will not throw us away or snuff us out. Instead, He will strengthen us and restore our usefulness. He will rekindle the flame so once again we will shine brighter than we ever have.  Dave Bartlett

The book of Ephesians is actually a letter; a letter the apostle Paul wrote to a brand new church in the ancient city of Ephesus. In this letter, Paul fleshes out the mysterious plan of God which lies at the very center of the Universe. This plan is full of joy, energy and grace and it is ALL God's doing. This plan is about how God is going to redeem the world that has been broken by sin. After spending the first 3 chapters making every effort to explain this cosmic plan that is beyond words, Paul moves to laying the groundwork for how our knowledge of this plan should impact the way we, as God's people, are to live.
