On this episode of Rightly Dividing, the book of Acts, or The Acts of the Apostles, shows us the life and ministry of the apostles of Jesus Christ from the gospels, including one who is “born out of due time”, the apostle Paul. But before he was an apostle of the Lord, Saul was a fearsome type of Antichrist, and we will look at that as well. Think you're called to the ministry? You better think again, the book of Acts shows you what the ministry is, and you may not like it much. This week we celebrate Easter and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Pastor Ulysses takes us through a passage in Acts where Paul shares about the one true God to the people in Athens, who were at the time completely consumed by daily news—much like we are today in the Bay Area. He explains how each of us can experience the resurrection life today if we look upon the cross and acknowledge the sacrifice he has made that we might live!

Acts 17:16-34 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - To the unbelieving world, riddled with skepticism, anti-supernaturalism, rationalism, mysticism, and the vacuous despair each produces, Christianity offers the only message of hope. There is a God, who is both the creator of the universe and its sovereign ruler. Not only does he exist, but he is knowable and has revealed himself in his inspired and incarnate Word. Jesus came and lived a perfect life, he died a substitutionary death, and he victoriously rose from dead to offer life to all who believe. May we turn from the emptiness of idolatry and embrace new life found in the living and loving Savior, Jesus.

Episode OverviewThis week, we kick off our series, PURPOSE, by diving into one of life's biggest questions: Why am I here? In this sermon, we explore how we were created to connect with a very real and personal God, and how that connection begins by repenting and believing in Jesus Christ. I greet you in Jesus' precious name. It is Saturday morning, the 7th of December, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Daniel 2:28: “But there is a God in heaven…” That is what Daniel was telling Nebuchadnezzar when he interpreted his complete dream for him. Then we go to the Book of Acts 17:23: “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you:..” That was Paul, the Apostle, speaking to the academics in Athens, where they made an altar to the Unknown God. He said, “I know Him, oh yes, I know His name.” In this sad and fearful world people are desperately wanting to meet Him, just like Nebuchadnezzar, just like the wise men in Athens did, but they never knew His beautiful name, Jesus Christ. The Lord used Daniel to reveal God to Nebuchadnezzar, and God used Paul, the Apostle, to confound the academics of Athens and to tell them the name of the Unknown God. What about you and I? We need to get out there folks, and we need to tell them. You know, there was a mighty man of God by the name of Sadhu Sundar Singh. He was a Sikh, a man who met Jesus Christ, and I want to read something to you out of this book: “I remember a story told to us and a conversation that this man had with a Professor of Comparative Religions in the University of Cambridge in England: “Tell me“ said the Professor, “What have you found in Christianity that you did not find in your old religion?” And the Sadhu replied, ”Oh Professor, I found the dear Lord Jesus.” ”Oh yes,” he said, ”I quite understand but what particular principle or doctrine, tell me what new philosophy in Christianity did you find that you did not find in your old religion?” And again the Sikh replied, ”Oh Professor, I found the dear Lord Jesus.” You see, his witness was to a person and not to a principle, to a life and not to a philosophy. Christ was real. Folks, go out today and make Him real to our dying world. Jesus bless you and goodbye.

When the mob couldn't find Paul they brought out Jason instead and had him beaten. Meanwhile, the rest of the believers encouraged Paul, Silas, and Timothy to flee to Berea. We are creatures of desire, but our desires always seem heartbreakingly beyond our reach. What do we do with that? In this passage, Paul shows us how the gospel affirms, critiques, and ultimately fulfills our deepest desires.
The Apostle Paul does a masterful job explaining The Unknown God of Athens as The God Who Can Be Known!

How should Christians behave in the midst of one of the most powerful secular events in the world? When the technocratic elite organize to meet in the desert, thousand of people flock hoping for a spiritual experience. But when followers of Jesus show up, not only are they ostracized by the attendees of such an event, but many in the church tend to judge their fellow brethren for their outreach efforts. But if we are to truly live out the Great Commission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, building relationships with the lost is part of the job. This is why the Camp of Unknown God continues to go out to Burning Man and reach out to Burners with the message of true hope. But it doesn't come easy. Many people who attend Burning Man identify themselves as ex-Christian or post-Christian. So they aren't unfamiliar with Jesus or the Gospels. But they may have never met people who live out those biblical values and are also inviting and welcoming to burners. It's also an opportunity to be as the Two Spies and gather intel on the agenda's of the technocratic elite. Every year, Burning Man sets a cultural tone that ripples across the world. This year was no different. In this episode, Basil has a conversation with Carl Teichrib to get insight into this years Burning Man. In addition, the youngest member of the Camp of the Unknown God, Kaden the Canadian, discusses his experience of how he found himself in Black Rock City. Finally, we hear from the actual Burning of the Man, where Basil gets really uncomfortable. https://BurningManResearch.com https://CanaryCry.Support

The culture in which Christianity was born was every bit as skeptical of the claims of Christianity as ours is. But the case for Christianity was made so strongly that skeptical people believed in numbers so great that it changed the entire Roman culture. There's no better place to see the case that changed the whole Roman Empire than the book of Acts. Within it, there are a number of spots where Paul or Peter make the case, including this famous spot where Paul speaks to the intellectual elites on Mars Hill in the Areopagus. This text shows three aspects to the persuasive power of gospel: 1) the cultural, 2) the intellectual, and 3) the personal.
