Run With a Vision- Part 5b (Run To Win Series) by Paul Osei Yaw Afoakwa
In this episode, Pastor Tyler challenges us to confront the excuses that keep us from fulfilling God's vision for our lives. Drawing from the life of Moses, we explore how fear, comfort, and past failures can hold us back—but how God's call always comes with His presence and power. If you've ever felt stuck in a season or unqualified to serve, this message will inspire you to step out in faith and into God's purpose for your life.
Proverbs 29:18 reminds us that without divine revelation, people live without restraint — doing what is right in their own eyes rather than following God's direction. We explore how our sinful nature often distorts our spiritual vision, leading us away from faith and into self-centered living. Pastor Jay emphasizes the urgency of the Great Commission, the calling to "go and make disciples," empowered by the Holy Spirit. Drawing from the parable of the talents, we are reminded that each of us will one day stand before Christ's judgment seat to account for how we stewarded the life and mission He entrusted to us. Are we living for our own plans, or are we fully invested in God's mission? Pastor Jay challenges us to examine our hearts, get ourselves out of the way, and commit fully to the eternal work of making disciples — the true evidence of a church living with vision.
In this episode, Lee continues the series on Vision by sharing a powerful tool to focus your teams - Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). OKRs are a tool for building the intermediate range of goals that connect your long-term vision to your short-term actions. OKRs are a way to concentrate your team's collective impact on the few most vital, relevant, shared, and time sensitive aspects of your business. Lee briefly explains the history and then dives into the practical tips and tricks to make your Objectives clear, concise, and compelling. He helps leaders avoid getting stuck with the wording by giving specific syntax, sequence, and guidelines. He then describes the different kinds of Key Results, so you can quickly measure and assess your progress. He also provides tips for making these measurements helpful and at the right level. OKRs are not everything your team is doing. Only 1-3ish per level of an organization. Objectives are clear, concise, compelling, and directional statements of a destination or outcome. Leaders often get stuck focusing on the task or solution. Ask, "Why would we want that?" or "Who would benefit if we did that?" to get closer to the outcome. Powerful objectives are a single sentence with strong action verbs, a specific aspect of the business, a desirable outcome/impact, and often the primary customer/beneficiary. Key Results are quantifiable, indicators of progress. Set your KR targets with the end in mind. Don't wimp out by waiting for a baseline. Refresh OKRs quarterly or so to assess and adapt to changing priorities.
Welcome to Life in the Spirit! In this episode, we continue our series, Where There Is Vision, by exploring how God's plan and purpose for our lives align with the mission of the Great Commission. Jesus didn't just give us a task—He gave us a vision for transforming the world through the gospel. When we embrace His call, we discover that His mission is our purpose.
In this episode of Life in the Spirit, we continue our series Where There is Vision by reinforcing the truth that God has a plan and a purpose for our lives. Vision is more than just seeing—it's understanding and aligning ourselves with God's divine direction. However, our flesh, distractions, and other influences can distort our spiritual vision, making it difficult to fully grasp God's plans. Join us as we explore how to overcome these obstacles and gain clarity in our walk with Him.
"I had to make a decision because I knew that if nothing changed, I was just gonna fail out of EECS. I remember EECS actually sent me a letter where they were like, 'Hey, if your GPA continues this low, you will be kicked out next semester.'" In part one of our conversation with Alfredo Andere, we delve into his journey from Mexico to the prestigious EECS program at UC Berkeley. Alfredo shares his early fascination with technology, the challenges of adapting to a new educational system, and the pivotal moments that shaped his academic and personal growth. Raised in various cities across Mexico, Alfredo's passion for technology was sparked by reading biographies of tech leaders like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk. His entrepreneurial spirit emerged early when he organized a forum that attracted high-profile speakers, including former Mexican presidents, to his all-boys Catholic high school. Despite initial struggles with calculus at Berkeley, Alfredo's determination and commitment to his studies ultimately led to his success in the competitive EECS program.
In this episode of Life in the Spirit, we continue our series by exploring the importance of having a vision for those lost in sin. God is no respecter of persons—His salvation is for all. We look at the powerful story of Peter and Cornelius in Acts 10, where Peter, led by the Holy Spirit, breaks through cultural and religious barriers to bring the gospel to a Gentile household. This moment not only transformed Cornelius and his family but also revealed God's heart for all people. Join me as we dive into how we can embrace this same vision, seeing others through God's eyes and sharing the gospel without partiality.

In this message from our "Where There is Vision" series, we explore Paul's vision of the man from Macedonia in Acts 16. This pivotal moment wasn't just about direction—it was about divine calling and obedience to God's mission.

God has a plan and purpose for your life, but the biggest obstacle is often ourselves. When we surrender our own desires, we can see, understand, and walk in God's preferred future. Vision is the ability to perceive His plans and step forward in faith. It all begins in Christ—where we truly get out of our own way.
For the next two weeks, Bill and Eric will take a closer look at the fourth volume of the church's history book series called “Saints” and pay special attention on their emphasis on the research done by Christian researched Wes Walters. In this episode, Lee picks up from the prior episode on seeing the trends in your business environment to seeing where you want to be. He summarizes the origins and value of a good mission/vision statement; and also the perils of how poorly and painfully it can be to create them. He provides an alternative approach to creating Rapid Organizational Unit Statements (affectionately referred to as ROUS in a nod to The Princess Bride). The ROUS technique is an engaging and collaborative method that helps teams quickly create clear, concise, and compelling missions. Lee outlines the criteria and a step-by-step process for engaging a group of leaders to create or update your overarching mission and vision. The episode concludes with a preview of the next topic: OKRs (Objectives and Key Results). Additional Resources Connect with Lee on LinkedIn Learn more about Unleashing Leaders Follow PeopleForward Network on LinkedIn Learn more about PeopleForward Network Listen to the original episode on Unlocked podcast Key Takeaways: Crafting mission and vision statements is essential for strategic planning. Avoid the traditional painful and time consuming "You're killing me, Smalls" approach. The ROUS technique allows for rapid creation of effective statements. Mission statements answer "Who are we and why are we here?" They should not focus on the services and activities (the what and how). Vision statements answer "Where do we want to be/Where are we going?" Good Mission/Visions focus on the destination and strive to be clear, concise, and compelling. Engaging the team and perhaps key suppliers or customers in the process fosters ownership and alignment.

When planning the year ahead, looking back at the previous year is essential to see how it went. It's also so important to look at the next 10 years and what the future could look like. Vision casting is both long-term and short-term; the long-term vision informs the short-term vision. This episode focuses on the 10-year vision, and the next episode will be about reverse engineering that 10-year vision.
