In this episode of the Awekura series we talk with Renée Orr, Rare Book specialist and Curatorial Services Team Leader at Auckland Council Libraries Heritage Collections. Renee shares with us a rare 17th Century book, its history and provenance, to this recently donated gift to the Heritage Collection. It's a bit of a tongue twister of a title! "The Memorable Works of a Son of Thunder and Consolation: Namely, that True Prophet, and Faithful Servant of God, and Sufferer for the Testimony of Jesus, Edward Burroughs, who Dyed a Prisoner for the Word of God, in the City of London, the Fourteenth of the Twelfth Moneth, 1662". The book was printed in 1672 in London and is a collection of the writings of influential Quaker, Edward Burrough. Matthew 25:14-30
In the backdrop of Israel's failure as the chosen servant, the Lord calls a servant who will draw to God not only Israel but also the nations. In these passages, we see the call of the Great Servant of God and His call to us.
Where Every Voice Gets a Turn at the Mic At First Grapevine, we believe in lifting up every voice. That's why we created The Bullpen—a space where emerging and diverse voices bring fresh perspectives and deep spiritual insights to the conversation. In this episode, Pastor Zach Stiefel and Dr. Keva Green reflect on the just concluded sermon series (Jonah – A Faithful Servant) and the upcoming sermon series (Knee High Theology – Lessons we learned from the kid's table. During the Jonah sermon series we read the entire book of Jonah in worship. We want to be a Bible reading church. We want to read the Bible together. Was Jonah faithful to his calling from God? Are we faithful to our calling from God? At First Grapevine, we want to be known as a Bible-reading church—a community grounded in Scripture and growing together in faith. We're so glad you're here. Let's keep growing together—in truth, grace, and community.
In 1 Thessalonians 2:9-12, Paul paints a picture of faithful ministry through the heart of a loving father, one who labors selflessly, lives with integrity, and leads others spiritually. Paul's example reminds us that faithful ministry isn't about charisma or comfort, but about Christlike character, and that true gospel service will cost much, but is worth everything. Suspense enters its final decade on the air and loses its longtime sponsor as our journey through the years of the show continues. Between 1952 and 1954, Elliott Lewis remained at the helm of the series and continued to present compelling dramas, but the rise of television and the loss of Autolite's financial support left Suspense in a transition period by the middle of the decade. We'll hear my favorite shows from this three year run: Deborah Kerr is a jewel thief out for revenge against her old partner in “The Lady Pamela” (originally aired on CBS on March 31, 1952). Jack Benny celebrates his retirement with a robbery in “A Good and Faithful Servant” (originally aired on June 2, 1952). Frank Lovejoy fights to free his hometown from the oppressive grip of criminals in “The Frightened City” (originally aired on CBS on November 10, 1952). Joseph Kearns tries to commit an experiment in objective murder in “The Earth is Made of Glass” (originally aired on CBS on June 17, 1954). And finally, John Dehner sets out to prove he cannot be killed in “The Last Letter of Dr. Bronson” (originally aired on CBS on November 4, 1954).

We've all heard the phrase, “Well done, good and faithful servant”, but what did Jesus actually mean when He said it? In this episode, we'll unpack the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25) and Paul's final words in 2 Timothy 4:7–8 to explore what faithfulness really looks like in the life of a believer. You'll hear:The deeper meaning behind Jesus' parable and where this phrase comes from. How God entrusts each of us with gifts and callings “according to our ability.”Why “finishing the race” matters more than perfection or comparison. How answering your calling with daily obedience leads to eternal joy and hearing those words: “Well done.”This conversation will encourage you to see your identity, calling, and purpose through the lens of faithfulness; not striving.

On this special episode of “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock discusses the atrocious assassination of Charlie Kirk, the young, outspoken conservative leader of Turning Point USA. Whitlock honors Kirk as the “good and faithful servant” Jesus Christ praises in Scripture and shows how Kirk's death reaffirms the word of the gospel that says truth-tellers “wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities.” Whitlock also argues that the “both sides” argument is dead, as the radical leftists who celebrate Kirk's murder are not at all similar to conservatives who embrace a biblical worldview. Whitlock also notes how prominent members of the sports media, including Stephen A. Smith, have so far remained silent on Kirk's assassination, despite speaking out on various other politically charged issues. Whitlock analyzes the demonic forces at work in our world and why the threat to kill is ever present, with Whitlock himself having been the victim of veiled death threats from the mouth of Joy Taylor, who claimed to be a “gangster.” Jon Root and Chandler Crump join the show to discuss their memories of Kirk at TPUSA and his influence on them, and T.J. Moe, Shemeka Michelle, and Virgil Walker discuss how Kirk's bravery transformed our country. What makes someone willing to risk their life for people who don't even appreciate them? This powerful examination of Philippians 2:25-30 unpacks the extraordinary example of Epaphroditus, a man whose faithful service nearly killed him—yet he was ready to do it all again. The passage reveals five critical roles that define authentic Christian service: brother (shared identity), coworker (shared purpose), soldier (shared fight), messenger (shared message), and minister (shared burden). These distinctions aren't just theological concepts but practical guideposts for how we relate to one another in ministry contexts.Epaphroditus exemplifies extraordinary commitment, carrying on his ministry despite knowing the Philippian church might have preferred Paul or Timothy instead. His story challenges us to examine our own motivations. Do we serve for recognition and appreciation? Or are we willing to persist faithfully even when it costs us dearly? Most importantly, we learn that joy isn't the absence of sorrow but can exist alongside it when we remember who we ultimately serve.Whether you're feeling unappreciated in ministry, wrestling with difficult relationships in your church, or simply trying to understand what faithful service looks like, this message offers profound encouragement. Share this episode with someone who needs the reminder that their service matters to God, even when others don't see its value. My hope is that this podcast helps grow your faith and equips you to accomplish your dreams and goals!Follow me on InstagramFollow me on FacebookFollow me on TikTok
By Ben Light - What is faithfulness? If you had to describe it to someone - how would you go about it? Through an analogy or a definition? What would cement the idea or concept to someone? Faithfulness is a spiritual characteristic expected of us all, and stewardship a calling we've all been given. It isn't always
Matthew 25:14-30
“When you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” — John 21:18 When Peter questioned Jesus' prediction about his death on the cross, the Lord strongly rebuked him (Matthew 16:21-23). Later, on the lakeshore where Jesus restored Peter, directing him to feed his sheep (John 21:15-17), Jesus predicted Peter's death. Though the details are unclear, Christian tradition has taught that the apostle Peter, while serving as a church leader in Rome, died in A.D. 64. That year a catastrophic fire had destroyed the imperial city. Scheming to shirk his own responsibility for the disaster, the emperor Nero blamed the fire on Christians. As the church's leader, Peter would have been an obvious target for revenge. When the Roman soldiers led him away to be hanged on a cross, the tradition goes, Peter pleaded to be crucified upside down, since he didn't feel worthy to die in the same way as his Lord, who had saved him. So the soldiers crucified him upside down. Though we can't be sure about the details of Peter's death, we can be certain that when Peter was reunited with Jesus in heaven, the Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (see Matthew 25:23). Despite any of his glaring failures, Peter's service revealed the virtues of faith, courage, patience, and perseverance. In our own service to Jesus, may we also look forward to the Savior's words of praise. Help us, Lord Jesus, to live each day as your faithful servants. Amen.

Faith and gratitude form the foundation of both personal relationships and national identity, as we explore how making time for God and our spouses reflects our true priorities and values.• Making time for God through prayer, reading his word, and listening is essential to spiritual growth• Our spouses should be our "one out of seven billion" with eager, enthusiastic attention to their needs• Scripture teaches that thankfulness should be our sacrifice to God, not just ritual offerings• We must use our talents to improve this world despite its imperfections and sorrows• John Adams believed American independence was achieved through Christian principles combined with liberty• Liberty cannot exist separated from Christ's principles, regardless of one's political ideologyCheck out our reading of my children's book "Countryside" on our other podcast, available on Apple and all major platforms. “Get this and get it straight!” We're celebrating Gerald Mohr - the radio actor who brought a two-fisted intensity to Philip Marlowe - in honor of his birthday on June 11. He was one of the best stars of the era, and his performance makes The Adventures of Philip Marlowe one of the best detective dramas of the day. We'll hear Mohr as Marlowe in “The Easy Mark” (originally aired on CBS on January 29, 1949) and “The Long Arm” (originally aired on CBS on February 7, 1950). Then, he's a less scrupulous character in “Lady with a Key” from The Whistler (originally aired on CBS on April 2, 1950). Finally, he co-stars with Jack Benny in “A Good and Faithful Servant,” a story of a $50,000 department store heist and the mild-mannered clerk who pulls it off, from Suspense (originally aired on CBS on June 2, 1952).
In 1985, David Lee Roth was out and Sammy Hagar was in. One of the biggest lead singer shakeups in music history led to some of the biggest sales of Van Halen's career. It also led to more drama, to Lamborghinis and Ferraris racing through the streets of Los Angeles, to military assault vehicles storming Beverly Hills, to crazed fans and loaded guns – and at the middle of it all, a modern-day warrior, a man with a code, trying to orchestrate his own survival.
