Chris @leadworksw began his career as a roofer, but it was the art of lead-work that truly captured his passion. Through years of dedicated craftsmanship and unwavering commitment, he honed his skills while working for different companies, gradually becoming a seasoned expert in the field. With determination and a thirst for knowledge, Chris earned his qualifications in lead-work, solidifying his reputation as a skilled professional. Inspired by his journey, he took a leap of faith and established his own business, which thrived until a brief hiatus of two years. Reinvigorated and reenergised, Chris found his way back to lead-work, channeling his creative spirit into each project. Embracing the digital age, he harnessed the power of social media to showcase his stunning work, captivating audiences with his meticulous craftsmanship and innovative designs. Dave's trajectory in life veered away from his dad's electrician path, instead drawn to the allure of design and woodwork during his school days, which led him down the path of carpentry. With a steadfast determination, he spent 14 years perfecting his craft within a company, even responding to nighttime emergencies. Seeking more autonomy, he took the bold step of establishing his own carpentry business. Armed with a budget-friendly van, he initially specialised in kitchen fittings for Wickes. Expanding his venture, he hired a small team to assist him. A twist of fate arrived when an unfortunate leg injury left him incapacitated. During his recovery, one team member departed, leaving him in a bind with clients. Dave's journey also bore the scars of adversity - he weathered 16 instances of tool theft, a challenge that struck both his van and even his home. Despite these trials, Dave's resilience remained unshaken as he continued to carve his name into the world of carpentry. ___ ⭐ This episode is Sponsored By Vanguard the Van Storage & Security Experts.Van Guard has just launched it's brand new ULTIBar Trade a full steel roof bar system specifically designed for the trades, and made in britain. If you fancy getting your hands on anything from Vanguard we have an exclusive offer that will bag you 20% off their full range when you use code "TRADELEGENDS"Checkout the ULTIBar Trade | https://van-guard.co.uk/ultibar-trade-steel-roof-rack/___ Guests this week: Chris & Dave

More than 30 years ago, after a drought wiped out his commodity crops, Dave Bishop changed the way he farmed. It was 1988, the same summer that a scientist named James Hansen told Congress that human activity was causing “global warming,” unofficially launching the climate-change era. While Bishop's neighbors vowed that next year would be better, Bishop decided that he couldn't go on doing the same thing. He started diversifying the crops he grew and replacing chemical fertilizer with manure. Over the next decade he kept asking himself, “What else can I do?” He began selling what he grew directly to consumers—something virtually unheard of in farm country back then. He didn't consider what he was doing a crusade against climate change, but rather a way to break free of a system that was squeezing farmers from both ends—forcing them to grow only a handful of commodity crops and sell those crops to a handful of big buyers who set the prices. In this episode, producer Eve Abrams uses Bishop's story to explore what some farmers in the Midwest are doing to combat climate change—from cover cropping to agroforestry. We need more Dave Bishops if we are going to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions coming from U.S. agriculture. But as Abrams makes clear, change is hard. “Once you have an entrenched system the resistance to change is unbelievable,” Bishop tells her.
