Microgrids offer utilities eight distinct value stacks (or streams), yet most still treat them as experimental pilots. Today on the Clean Power Hour, we reveal how microgrids are strategic network assets that deliver value every single day, not just when the grid fails. Martin Szczepanik is Director of Energy and Resources at Baringa, a global energy consultancy. He brings 11 years of utility strategy experience, including work with SolarCity, major West Coast utilities, and renewable energy developers. Baringa recently released a white paper called "From Pilots to Portfolios: Scaling the Rollout of Utility Microgrids."Key Discussion Points:• The complete microgrid value stack: resilience, distribution capacity deferral, transmission capacity deferral, ancillary services, energy arbitrage, generation capacity deferral, avoided emissions, and avoided public safety power shutoffs (PSPS)• Why resilience differs from reliability: climate-driven extreme weather events versus age and condition-driven outages• How billion-dollar natural disasters increased from once every 90 days in the 1980s to once every 19 days today, which necessitates the increased need for microgrids• Distribution and transmission capacity deferral: using microgrids to avoid $5-10 million infrastructure upgrades• Energy arbitrage opportunities: charging batteries when solar floods the grid, discharging during peak demand• FERC 2222 enabling distributed energy resources to participate in wholesale markets and earn revenue• California wildfires and PSPS (Public Safety Power Shutoffs) events: how microgrids reduce the cost of de-energizing lines• Why utilities need to assess microgrids in distribution planning instead of defaulting to substations and reconductoringConnect with Martin Szczepanik, Baringa LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/martinszczepanik/Website: www.baringa.com/en/about/regions/north-america/microgrids/Whitepaper: www.baringa.com/en/insights/digitising-the-energy-system/scaling-microgrids/ Support the showConnect with Tim Clean Power Hour Clean Power Hour on YouTubeTim on TwitterTim on LinkedIn Email tim@cleanpowerhour.com Review Clean Power Hour on Apple PodcastsThe Clean Power Hour is produced by the Clean Power Consulting Group and created by Tim Montague. Tired of predictable single-video-album cycles, Drake declared he was “bored” and craving a real challenge, resulting in high-budget cinematic livestream episodes that blend music premieres, live-action storytelling, and real-time chaos. This segment covers all three episodes: Episode 1 (July 4, 2025, Toronto ice warehouse, 58 minutes) where Drake debuted “What Did I Miss?” at No. 2 after a signal delay cost him No. 1; Episode 2 (late July 2025, Manchester with Central Cee, 41 minutes) featuring the runaway “Which One” single; and Episode 3 (September 2025, Milan, 20 cameras, 100+ crew across 10 locations) previewing “Somebody Loves Me” remix and “Dog House” with YEAT. Analytic Dreamz breaks down the Iceman lore, sinister narrative elements, technical hurdles (police shutdowns, no permits, weather threats, drone shots, multi-feed redundancy), and why Drake insists on zero staging for authenticity. Includes direct quotes, Matte Babel insights, exact production stats, and current album status—no release date or tracklist revealed yet. AssistiV, an innovative technology designed to support sustainable employment opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities that has the potential to support 1,000 jobs by 2030 is being rolled out nationally. AssistiV plans to scale up to support jobs for 100 people nationwide within two years and reach 1,000 users by 2030, helping to close Ireland's significant employment gap for people with disabilities. AssistiV's screen-based technology simplifies complex workplace tasks into easy-to-follow picture, text or audio clues, empowering individuals with learning or intellectual disabilities or autism to perform their roles independently and confidently to the correct standard. The rollout is being supported by HEINEKEN Ireland, which has worked with AssistiV to pilot the technology in hospitality venues and to raise awareness of the potential for inclusive employment in the sector. The launch took place at the Hyatt Centric Hotel, in Dublin, where two sisters, Emma and Kate Connolly, are using the AssistiV technology to work in the hotel. The sisters are among 18 people working in hospitality across Ireland now using the technology, with 20 more employed in retail and manufacturing roles in companies ranging from owner-run local businesses to large multinationals. Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary TD was also in attendance at the launch. Emma and Kate recently joined the Hyatt Centric restaurant team, where they work alongside colleagues taking orders, waiting tables, and serving guests. They previously completed a programme delivered by HEINEKEN Ireland to train and upskill people for roles in the hospitality sector. Emma Connolly said: "I love working here at the Hyatt. Everyone has been really kind and supportive and using AssistiV helps me remember my tasks and feel confident doing my job. It's great to be part of a busy team and to meet new people every day." AssistiV is working closely with Down Syndrome Ireland, NOW Group, and the National Learning Network to support more people with learning disabilities into employment, ensuring they can access the right training, skills development and on-the-job support. Social Protection Minister Dara Calleary TD said: "I want to commend AssistiV on their latest partnership with the Hyatt Centric and Hodson Bay Group. AssistiV represents the very best of innovation - technology that makes a tangible difference in people's lives. It demonstrates how the right tools and supports can open doors, create opportunity, and allow people to reach their full potential at work. "As Minister for Social Protection, I am committed to supporting more people with additional needs into meaningful employment, and initiatives like AssistiV show what's possible when technology and empathy come together. One of the great opportunities here is the ability to bring inclusive employment into every community in Ireland, and the hospitality sector gives us a powerful platform to do that." Alan Craughwell, CEO of AssistiV Ireland, said: "Our goal is simple - to create a world where anyone who wants to work, can work, and choice is not a luxury, it's standard. Every person deserves the chance to contribute meaningfully at work. We're proud that AssistiV has already helped almost 40 people achieve just that, and with today's launch, we're ready to bring those opportunities to hundreds more people across Ireland. I would like to thank HEINEKEN Ireland for its continued support of AssistiV. They have backed this initiative from the start, and we look forward to continuing to work with them. If just 1% of Irish pubs used this technology for example, we could support 600 jobs throughout the country." Sharon Walsh, Managing Director of HEINEKEN Ireland, said: "At HEINEKEN Ireland, we believe inclusion and belonging should be a core part of the workplace. We're proud to be using AssistiV technology to support employment at our brewery in Cork, and to see firsthand the huge imp...

There is a transformation taking place right now across every major nation on earth, and it is happening so quickly, so uniformly, and with such prophetic clarity that you would need to work hard not to see what the Lord has plainly revealed in His preserved Book. Nearly every country on the face of the earth is now preparing to launch or expand a national digital identity system. From the United States to the United Kingdom, from the European Union to Africa and Asia, digital IDs are becoming the cornerstone of a new global infrastructure. And make no mistake — this is not about convenience, modernization, or innovation. This is about control.“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” Revelation 13:16,17 (KJB)On this episode of the Prophecy News Podcast, we are not dealing with a handful of nations dabbling in high-tech identification. We are watching a global convergence. A coordinated digital transformation is sweeping the planet, touching wealthy nations, developing nations, democratic nations, authoritarian nations — everyone, everywhere, all at once. The United States is now fully onboard. What Washington denied for decades is now becoming normalized through federal digital ID initiatives, mobile driver's licenses, airport-verified digital credentials, and tech-led identity systems spearheaded by Silicon Valley. The United Kingdom is preparing a government-issued digital ID card and a national identity wallet. The European Union has mandated that all 27 member nations introduce a fully functional digital identity wallet by 2026. Australia passed its Digital ID Act and is expanding its national ID scheme. African nations like Malawi, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Nigeria are rolling out digital ID systems tied to biometrics and banking access. Asian powerhouses like China, Japan, and South Korea are integrating digital identity across healthcare, travel, payments, and social services. And standing over all of this is the United Nations, pushing “digital public infrastructure” as the new mandatory framework for global cooperation. In 2024, every last UN member state signaled support for expanding national digital ID programs. That is not coincidence — that is convergence.
Ethereum hasn't reached full speed yet. Now it might. Justin Drake of the Ethereum Foundation outlines Lean Ethereum, a plan to optimise the stack so validators stop executing and start verifying. With zk proofs in under 12 seconds and on-prem provers around 10 kW, the base layer can reach gigagas capacity and roughly 10,000 TPS while getting more decentralized. Add Fossil, seconds-level finality, and post-quantum signatures, and the changes stick. We unpack the EthProofs race, the four-phase path to mandatory proofs, the three-times-a-year gas target in EIP-7938, and why native rollups could remove gas ceilings for L2s. If you're wondering whether Ethereum can scale without turning into a data center chain, this is the roadmap. ---

From the sensors used in Waymo's AVs, the evolution of its driver system and expansion of its partnerships, the discussion focuses on opportunities and remaining challenges around the rollout of AVs.

Dr. Neil Evans, Acting Program Executive Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs' Electronic Health Record Modernization Integration Office, provided an update on the rollout of the common electronic health record (EHR). The VA paused the rollout in 2023 following optimization and reliability issues. Evans outlined plans to restart deployment in April 2026 at select sites in Michigan, with a target of full, enterprise-wide implementation by 2031. He described the VA's wave-based deployment schedule, which leverages user feedback and lessons learned from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the War Department, both of which have deployed the common EHR. Evans discussed the challenges and opportunities the EHR presents for veterans and active military personnel alike.

Can we align AI with society's best interests? Tristan Harris, co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology, joins Ian Bremmer on the GZERO World Podcast to discuss the risks to humanity and society as tech firms ignore safety and prioritize speed in the race to build more and more powerful AI models. AI is the most powerful technology humanity has ever built. It can cure disease, reinvent education, unlock scientific discovery. But there is a danger to rolling out new technologies en masse to society without understanding the possible risks. The tradeoff between AI's risks and potential rewards is similar to deployment of social media. It began as a tool to connect people and, in many ways, it did. But it also become an engine for polarization, disinformation, and mass surveillance. That wasn't inevitable. It was the product of choices—choices made by a small handful of companies moving fast and breaking things. Will AI follow the same path?Host: Ian BremmerGuest: Tristan Harris Subscribe to the GZERO World with Ian Bremmer Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred podcast platform, to receive new episodes as soon as they're published.
