For almost 40 years, Burlington-based DJ Melo Grant has been one of Vermont's foremost purveyors of hip-hop. Generations of local rap fans — and rappers such as North Ave Jax and Rivan C. — have been raised on her weekly radio show “Cultural Bunker” on WRUV, the University of Vermont's radio station.

Woensdag 19 Februari Vlak voor de show kregen wij treurige nieuws te horen horen dat Bashar Barakah Jackson ook wel bekend als Pop Smoke, op 20 jarig leeftijd thuis in Hollywood is vermoord. Tijdens de show hebben Promario & DJ Melo gehad hoe dat tot stand is gekomen en we hebben we wat songs van zijn mixtapes gedraaid. Het jaar 2019 zit er bijna alweer op! Dat betekend ook voor De Balans Podcast! Voor de laatste show heb ik een goede homey en een radio collega van me Marc “DJ Melo” Wehbe uitgenodigd die vorige jaar ook te gast was met Ceezy UR. (Toen de show Promario Podcast heette) In deze aflevering heben ik en Marc “Melo” Wehbe het gehad over welke muziek releases ons is opgevallen of een flop is geworden, wat we vinden van de zowel internationale als nationale hiphop/R&B/Urban culture. Welkom bij onze laatste aflevering van seizoen 18! DJ Melo heeft voor deze aflevering de taken van Lowpro opgenomen omdat de beste man op verjaardag was! Episode 87: DJ MELO D On this week’s episode of the @RoadPodcast, the crew sits down with LA’s legendary @DJMeloD of the @TheBeatJunkies. Melo-D speaks about @Jrocc210 initiating the inception of the Beat Junkies (7:03) and collectively launching multiple business entities like their successful DJ School “Institute Of Sound” @BeatJunkiesIOS and Online DJ School @BeatJunkies.TV (18:34). He reminisces on spinning at 92.3 “The Beat” (48:15), auditioning for @QuincyDJones to be the official DJ for the @VIBEMagazine TV show on UPN (54:17) and explaining how the Eastcoats vs. Westcoast beef between Biggie and 2Pac effected LA (1:01:13). Melo-D breaks down the hip-hop club scene in the 90’s with fellow Beat Junkie @DJIcyIce’s infamous party at Club Unity (1:17:07) and how their 20 year anniversary showcase in 2012 helped them re-appreciate the legacy they created and expand the Beat Junkie brand (1:32:00). Melo explains how he teaches the up and coming DJ's and what troubles he runs into (1:52:49).

In deze aflevering hebben het gehad over the championsleague wedstrijd van Ajax tegen Tottenham Hotspur. Nou vraag je natuurlijk wat is de link tussen nederlandse rap/hiphop en voetbal? Genoeg 1 van de dingen die we hebben besproken is de tune van Sevn genaamd Herres die is vanaf nu te streamen is op bekende kanalen! Verder hebben gehad over Kempi's 3de studio album Oompie Keke & ScHoolboy Q's langverwachte album CrasH Talk. In het tweede uur is DJ Melo langs gekomen bij ons in de studio!! De reden waarom hij langs is gekomen dat heeft te maken met 5 mei want op die dag staan Promario, Michael Kenton als host namens BreakNorth op het Bevrijdingsfestival - Sena Performance Stage (Urban area) en DJ Melo gaat vanaf 14:00 tussen de acts Tabitha, Snelle, Ares, Jirri11, Bokoesam, $hirak &Poke wat toffe tunes spinnen. Week 12. Het eerste uur In deze aflevering bespreken DJ Lowpro & DJ Melo over Djaga Djaga die in hoge beroep is gegaan, Frenna die de studio is ingedoken met André Hazes Junior, Birdman & Young Thug die samen gaan werken, Madlib die laatst tijdens zijn show wat onuitgebrachte tracks heeft laten horen met Mac Miller, YBN Almighty Jay die zijn Rap-A-Lot chain terug heeft gekregen, Drake die voor de zoveelste keer zijn show heeft gecancelt, Amazon & Meek mill die binnenkort komen met een #Freemeek documantaire een docu dat over onterrechte straf gaat van Meek Mill. In het tweede uur: Zijn de mannen van Wadaap & De Zelve langs gekomen om te vertellen over hun tweede gezamelijke E.P. genaamd 'De Demoon' die ze in cassette bandje hebben uitgebracht via het label Tusken Tape. Zo vertellen in onze show wat de achterliggende gedachten zijn van De Demoon EP, over hoe zij hun donkere periode hebben verwerkt in de muziek, over het uitbrengen op cassette bandjes, release party en daarnaast hebben we .. tracks gedraaid van hun recente project.
