Recent court documents have revealed that DNA from three different individuals was discovered under the fingernails of Madison Mogen, one of the four University of Idaho students tragically murdered in November 2022. This finding suggests that Mogen may have struggled with her assailant, potentially collecting crucial forensic evidence during the attack. However, defense attorneys for the primary suspect, Bryan Kohberger, contend that the DNA tests were inconclusive and have filed motions to exclude this evidence from the upcoming trial..Kohberger, a former criminology Ph.D. student, is accused of fatally stabbing Mogen and her three housemates. Prosecutors have presented additional evidence linking Kohberger to the crime, including DNA found on a knife sheath at the scene, surveillance footage of a vehicle resembling his, and cell phone records placing him near the victims' residence before and after the murders. The defense is challenging the admissibility of much of this evidence, arguing that certain investigative methods and the breadth of search warrants could mislead the jury or infringe upon Kohberger's rightsto contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Idaho murders trial rocked by curveball DNA evidence found under victim's fingernails | Daily Mail Online

The upcoming trial for Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students in 2022, will no longer be held in Moscow, the college town where the murders took place. In a ruling filed on Sept. 6, Latah County Judge John C. Judge granted Kohberger's defense team's motion for a change of venue, citing concerns about media coverage and the potential for bias in the close-knit community of Moscow. "Considering the undisputed evidence presented by the defense, the extreme nature of the news coverage in this case, and the smaller population in Latah County, the defense has met the rather low standard of demonstrating a ‘reasonable likelihood' that prejudicial news coverage will compromise a fair trial in Latah County,” the judge wrote in the order. As a result, the trial, initially expected to begin in June 2025, will be moved to another location, though the new venue has yet to be determined. Judge also pointed out logistical challenges in holding the trial in Latah County, noting that the courthouse lacks the necessary staff and space to accommodate both the prosecution and defense teams, as well as adequate security for the high-profile trial. “The Latah County Sheriff's Office does not have enough officers to ensure security,” Judge added. Bryan Kohberger, a former Ph.D. student studying criminal justice and criminology at Washington State University, is facing four counts of murder and one count of burglary in connection with the stabbing deaths of Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20. The four students were found dead in an off-campus residence in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13, 2022. Kohberger has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Two additional roommates in the house were unharmed during the attack and have been ruled out as suspects. The investigation gained national attention, particularly because of Kohberger's academic background and the brutality of the murders. Kohberger was arrested nearly seven weeks after the killings while visiting family in Pennsylvania for the holidays. Investigators connected Kohberger to the crime scene through DNA evidence found on a knife sheath left behind in the bed where Mogen and Goncalves were discovered. According to a probable cause affidavit, Kohberger's cell phone also pinged in the area of the victims' residence at least 12 times before the night of the murders. Despite the delays in finalizing the trial location, Kohberger's defense has raised several concerns about the ability to secure a fair trial. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
The new trial location and the judge who will oversee the case are expected to be announced soon. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In a startling revelation, an explosive new book claims Bryan Kohberger, the suspect in the brutal murders of four Idaho college students, had a single target on the night of the crime. According to investigative journalist Howard Blum's forthcoming book, *When the Night Comes Falling: A Requiem for the Idaho Student Murders*, Kohberger intended to kill Madison Mogen specifically, dispelling notions of a random killing spree. Blum's book, set to be released on June 25, unveils significant details about the tragic night in November 2022 when Mogen, along with Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, lost their lives. “Officials believe Kohberger was after Mogen because he passed the rooms of two surviving roommates before starting the killing spree,” Blum explained in an interview with ABC News. “If he was just on a killing spree, it would have been natural, instinctive, to go to one of those doors. Instead, he goes up this narrow staircase and he turns directly into Maddie's room, and I think Maddie was his target.” Further compounding the tragedy, Blum reveals that Kohberger's family had harbored suspicions about him even before his arrest. Kohberger's father, Michael, reportedly felt uneasy when he picked up his son from school after the murders. “[Michael] has been reading the headlines - he knows that four students were killed 12 miles from his son's house. He knows what a troubled son he has,” Blum noted. Despite these concerns, Michael did not confront his son about the possible connection. The book also details an instance where one of Kohberger's sisters approached their father to voice her suspicions. However, Michael chose to dismiss her concerns. “He can't confront it,” Blum said about Michael's reaction at the time. On the night of the murders, the two surviving roommates, Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke, reportedly used their cellphones to communicate during and after the incident. Mortensen, 21, allegedly called out to her friends and roommates during the early morning hours of November 13 to quiet down. “Calm down, you're being loud!” she reportedly yelled around 4 a.m., followed by, “I'm trying to sleep!” Mortensen later opened her door and saw Kohberger, whom she believed to be a partygoer, walking past her toward the back exit of the house. Law enforcement determined that the four students were killed between 4 and 4:25 a.m., but it took another eight hours before police were called to the off-campus residence. In December 2022, Kohberger was arrested in Pennsylvania at his parents' house and charged with the murders. Despite the mounting evidence, Kohberger has pled not guilty. His trial has yet to be scheduled, as prosecutors and defense attorneys continue to wrangle over the evidence and other data gathered throughout the investigation. A hearing on June 27 will discuss the schedule for the rest of the case, including dates for the trial and possible sentencing. In a significant development earlier this month, a judge allowed investigators working for Kohberger's defense team to review sealed DNA records used to narrow the pool of potential suspects. The DNA was crucial in the investigative genetic genealogy process, which involves running material found at the crime scene through public genealogical databases to identify suspects or their relatives. Kohberger's attorneys are also seeking a change of venue, a request that the judge has yet to rule on. The case continues to grip the nation, with the upcoming book by Blum expected to shed more light on the complexities and heartbreaking details of the murders. *When the Night Comes Falling: A Requiem for the Idaho Student Murders* promises to be a revealing account, offering new insights and provoking further questions about one of the most shocking crimes in recent memory. Ashlin Couch, former roommate of the Idaho students killed, is speaking out. Couch transferred her lease at 1122 King Road to Xana Kernodle just six months before Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves were slain in the home. Couch remembers getting an alert from the University and immediately reaching out to friends still in Moscow. Couch's last text to Mogen before learning of her death was “Are you OK?” Couch followed up in a group chat with friends, “Has anyone heard from Maddie?” Couch says the thought that the murders could have happened earlier is unsettling, commenting that ‘you never know how long someone is watching your house.' We also learn a friend of an officer working on the Bryan Kohberger murder investigation says Kohberger was very careful in the days before his arrest. The source says the cop followed Kohberger in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, and observed him wearing plastic gloves while picking up groceries at a local Giant store. The cop also said that Kohberger's cellphone pings matched the movements of the victims for weeks before the murders.
