July 17, 2024, Washington, D.C. Some 200 young people from across the nation aged 14-19 — aspiring poets, storytellers, MC's, activists — are gathered in the nation's capital for the 29th annual Brave New Voices Festival — four non-stop days of slam poetry competition, coaching, workshops, late-night freestyling and in 2024, voting information. In summer, as the election loomed larger and larger we decided to turn our microphone to young people across America to hear their thoughts and feelings about the nation, about voting, about the election. Everyone always says young people are the future. But the truth is they are the present. And it is all on their plate. The Kitchen Sisters and producer Bianca Giaever traveled to the Brave New Voices Festival to take in the poets and their poetry, to listen and take the pulse of the moment. The hope, the scope, the vote. On July 21, the day after the festival ended, President Biden dropped out of the race. Keep that in mind as you listen. The Hope & The Scope was produced by The Kitchen Sisters (Nikki Silva & Davia Nelson) and Bianca Giaever and mixed by Jim McKee. In collaboration with Nathan Dalton and Brandi Howell.Funding for The Hope & the Scope comes from The Robert Sillins Family Foundation, Susan Sillins & The Buenas Obras Fund.Special thanks to all the poets, the teams, the coaches, to the fabulous Future Corps 2024 and to all the staff, volunteers and radiant community of Brave New Voices. And to all we interviewed at the festival.Very special thanks to Youth Speaks, trailblazers of local and national youth poetry slams, festivals, mentoring, youth education and development — creators of the Brave New Voices Festival. Deep bow to Executive Director Michelle Mush Lee, Communications Director Bijou McDaniel, Stephanie Cajina, Joan Osato, James Kass, to Paige Goedkoop, Jamie DeWolf and Pawn Shop Productions and especially to Bianca Giaever who joined us in Washington, D.C. and came with her mic blazing. The Kitchen Sisters Present... is part of Radiotopia from PRX, a network of independent, thought-provoking, deeply-produced, highly-entertaining podcasts that widen your world. Thanks for listening. All entries due 4/16/2019 and a random winner will be selected. Main Topic The Timekeeper Welcome to Circlevision and The Timekeeper. This super unique format was used throughout Disney properties and this episode we dive into one of the last productions, The Timekeeper. Our entire crew has a great recollection of this film and animatronic show, starring Robin Williams. The show itself, featured a unique character based on the actual camera system and they called her, Nine Eyes. With this episode, we go scene by scene, discussing the stars, filming, production and more. The original film entitled From Time to Time, but was named The Timekeeper in Florida. We go into the location, which always felt a little off and out of place in Tomorrowland. The redo in 1994 is discussed and we hit on some of the backstory involved with this attraction, including a bit of Alien Encounter. We discuss a few other things, including the old WDW travel VHS tapes, which had some great panning shots over the years. The group also gets into the preshows and we get a little bit of history and current location talk on the Renault concept car made for the attraction, The Reinastella. This ride is somewhat unique, as you had to look forward at The Timekeeper, so it kept the audience attention, looking one way. This is a great, 'New' Tomorrowland attraction that has met our criteria and we hope you really enjoy our look back. What is your favorite memory of The Timekeeper? Was this a must-do for you and your family? We would love to hear your memories as well. Next Month Join us very soon, as we take behind the scenes with director Jeff Blyth. He is going to take us on an amazing journey, all about how these 360 films are shot. You seriously need to hear this! We thank you for your support and welcome you to enjoy all of our other offerings including our photos, restored films & The Lake Buena Vista Historical Society.

This was a show located in Communicore East, near the Energy Exchange. We take you back to this attraction that showcased all of the computers running EPCOT back in the day. This show ran until Innoventions showed up and sounds like one you didn't want to miss. The movie DARYL had a scene in this location as well, so check that out from 1985. Brent wrote in, who is the creative director of Super 78 and host of The Season Past Podcast. He wrote us as a fan, letting us know his crew is binge listening to the show. Check them out and thanks for listening Brent! Kurt Phillips sent us a great group of pics from the Polynesian - amazing folders, stationary ephemera and lots of other neat tidbits. This episode focuses on post construction, memories, resort services entertainment and more. How starts us off with a minor correction regarding the construction and the opening dates of each area, which is different than we all thought. The design of the resort is discussed along with the feel back then, when compared to the other resorts on property. Atmosphere plays a big part with this back in the 70s. Everything from the entrance walkway to the lobby are described in detail by How. The Vacation Wonderland restored film shows off how the original doors actually worked. Who doesn't remember that lobby smell? We also go into the sundries shop, barbershop and tons of other amazing features which are no longer present. The Polynesian episode has been teased, discussed and in the works ever since Episode 1. How has researched, re-researched and compiled so much information, we couldn't cram it all into just one episode. So for part I, we discuss the original concepts and ideas involved with the Polynesian. How gives us some of the crazy and some of the real ideas that actually came to be. The Polynesian, being a themed resort, was not normal back in this era. Design is discussed, including the idea of grass shacks in Florida and how these were constructed. The infamous Chest of Drawers is brought back to the forefront, but the Polynesian does things a bit differently with US Steel. How also goes into capacities and details planned in the late 60s, which is crazy to think all of this was planned in that era. You really need to listen to this one twice to take in all the details. You see the various models lined up with Disney characters inside and around the cars, while the photographer does his thing. This was showcased in some various magazine print ads in the 1970s. The next section of this restored film is some various Magic Kingdom shots. Most importantly though, we see the famous and probably never before seen on film, The Eastern Winds. The boat rolls by the Magic Kingdom docking area and is in full, beautiful color. Come and join us for another installment of the WDW-Memories podcast, where I try to make it possible for you relive your Walt Disney World Memories when you can't actually be there. 100 Episodes! I can’t believe I’ve actually reached this milestone. I feel like there should be a trumpet fanfare or something . By the way, that was a hint. That’s right, we’re doing more Future Corps, and you can thank Paul Barrie and Magic Joe from the Window to the Magic podcast for that. I got started in a twitter conversation with the both of them on April 8 and they mentioned they would love to hear everything else I have on Future Corps, so I thought about it, and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate 100 episodes than to go back to where it all started. Come and join us for another installment of the WDW-Memories podcast, where I try to make it possible for you relive your Walt Disney World Memories when you can't actually be there. As the winter days seem to draw on forever, I find myself drifting off to my happy place and dreaming of a trip to warm sunny Florida. I can escape this cold gray sky and feel the sun warming me as I stand on Main Street USA and listen as a smile envelopes you from the inside out. Since a Disney trip isn’t actually on the schedule yet, I will have to satisfy the escapist in me with virtual trips, such as through this podcast and A Window to the Magic. So I was listening to WTTM #362 - AACB Music Appreciation and was taken back to my college band days. Now, we were never as good as the All American College Band, but we had some talented folks. I then realized that I never finished the other half of Christophers request. Remember in Memory 087 - Main Street, U.S.A. he said he’d love to hear a marching band too? Well today we’re going to hear one of the best in Walt Disney World. Actually, it might be the only one left in Walt Disney World since the Future Corps drum and bugle corp left years ago (go back to Memory 002 - The Future Corps to hear them again). Back in 1996 I first encountered this amazing Bugle group. They had about 6 performances that day at Epcot, and I think I saw 3 of them. So when I returned on a trip in 1998 I knew I had to get these guys on disk. So I purchased a MiniDisk recorder and a mono microphone and went to the parks. This started my addiction to recording Walt Disney World attractions.
