The crews also added some artistic tricks to make the castle seem bigger. A painting technique was used that involves painting the lower parts of the 70-foot tall castle walls in darker and warmer hues of pink paint, gradually getting lighter and cooler as it goes up to the top in order to blend in with the atmosphere. My sound naturally makes things sader anyway, but I also knew that I couldn’t make this overtly sad, too! It’s needed to strike that ‘hopes and fears’ balance.”Over 1,000 voices are included in the final track, which he also credited in an Instagram post. Elements of the original show were incorporated into later versions of the attraction from 1975–2004 and from 2009–present.The Walt Disney Story (1973–1975): Biographical film about Walt Disney, which originally appeared at Walt Disney World in 1972.The Walt Disney Story featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (1975–2004: A combination of the two previous shows. Disneyland had been criticized for replacing the Lincoln tribute with a tribute to Walt Disney, and combined elements of the two shows in response. From 2001–2004 the Disney tribute was removed, and the entire show was given more of a focus on the American Civil War.Merlin's Magic Shop (1955–1983): The original magic shop in the park. A second one on Main Street, U.S.A. opened in 1957 and continues to this day. Mickey Mouse Club Theater (1955–1964): Walk-in theater continuously showing animated Disney films and shorts, similar to the Main Street Cinema. Renamed Fantasyland Theater (1964–1982; not to be confused with the present-day theater). Now the site of Pinocchio's Daring Journey.Circarama, U.S.A. (1955–1997), renamed Circle-Vision 360° in 1967: A film presentation showing scenes from around the United States and later China. Guests stood in a large circular room and watched a film projected on nine large, contiguous screens that surrounded them. During its run, the attraction was hosted by American Motors, Bell System, AT&T Corporation, Pacific Southwest Airlines, and Delta Air Lines. Shows were:A Tour of the West (1955–1959)America the Beautiful (1960–1984)"All Because Man Wanted to Fly" (lobby pre-show) (1984–1989)American Journeys (1984–1996)Wonders of China (1984–1996)America the Beautiful (1996–1997)In 1998, the theater became the queue for the short-lived Rocket Rods attraction. The building now houses Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.Skyway to Tomorrowland (1956–1994): This ride, a typical aerial lift ride seen in many parks, traveled from a chalet on the west side of Fantasyland, through the Matterhorn, to a station in Tomorrowland. Cabins hung from cables and ran constantly back and forth between the two lands. The Fantasyland station stood until 2016 – closed to public access – adjacent to the Casey Jr. Circus Train, and was concealed by trees. It was demolished for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge construction. Its support towers were removed and the holes in the Matterhorn through which the ride passed were filled in.Rainbow Caverns Mine Train (1956–1959): A 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge mine train attraction through the new Living Desert. After the scenery was again redone in 1960, it was also upgraded and became:Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland (1960–1977): The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction replaced this sedate train ride with a roller coaster version. The only element that remained in place from its scenic vistas was the mighty waterfall tumbling from Cascade Peak into the Rivers of America, visible only from various boat rides around the Rivers. The structure that formed Cascade Peak and its waterfalls was demolished in 1998 after it was found to be suffering structurally from the decades of water that had flowed over it. One of the four locomotives and two cars from the ride remained on a stretch of track where Cascade peak once stood, as a staged wreck scene. The train, however, was removed in early 2010 during the Rivers of America refurbishment. The cacti that were a part of the Living Desert section were mostly relocated to the Magic Kingdom version of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Other remnants from Nature's Wonderland include the tunnel from Bear Country, the buttes from the Living Desert, the tunnel into Rainbow Caverns (though half-buried in concrete), and the jumping fish seen in Bear Country, all visible on Big Thunder Trail. The animals, however, were buried in concrete as the Imagineers didn't know where to place them. The Disney Gallery (1987–2007): A gallery of Disney-related art. The Disney Gallery was the only area listed on Disneyland maps as both an attraction and a retail location. The Gallery sometimes featured preliminary artwork and sketches from certain attractions or movies, sometimes (as in the 100 Mickeys exhibit) the displayed art was associated only with Disney and not with any specific attraction, film, or event. Often, prints from the exhibit were available for purchase via the print-on-demand system, and the Gallery always featured items such as books about Disney artwork. The Gallery used to sell prints of the ride posters featured in the tunnels leading to and from Main Street. The former gallery was replaced by the Disneyland Dream Suite. In October 2009 the gallery re-opened, but now it resides on Main Street, U.S.A..In the early 1960s as construction of New Orleans Square was proceeding, Walt Disney decided he needed a bigger entertaining facility for various VIPs that came to the park. He already had an apartment above the Fire Station on Main Street, U.S.A., but it was too small to host elaborate events. Walt decided to place the suite in New Orleans Square, set back from the hustle and bustle of the park.Disney brought in set designer Dorothea Redmond, famous for creating the sets in Gone with the Wind, to help him with the apartment layout. To furnish and decorate the area, he left his wife Lilly and Walt Disney Studio set decorator Emile Kuri to collaborate as they had on other projects (Club 33, the Firehouse Apartment, etc.). The project was christened The Royal Suite, inspired by its location off New Orleans Square's Royal Street. After Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, many projects at Walt Disney Productions were put on hold or abandoned. At the request of his brother Roy, who felt the family would not enjoy The Royal Suite with Walt gone, the project was quietly set aside. It was fairly close to completion at the time of Disney's death, including infrastructure and plumbing. From July 11, 1987, to August 7, 2007, the space housed the Disney Gallery. On October 1, 2007 the Walt Disney Company announced that the recently closed Disney Gallery would be remodeled and turned into the Disneyland Dream Suite. The remodeled suite would be the realization of Walt's dream to have a larger private apartment built at Disneyland, and would be made available to randomly selected guests of the park. The space underwent a whirlwind remodeling, with Disney Imagineers closely following the original design drawings from Dorothea Redmond. Located above the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, the Disneyland Dream Suite included a living room, open-air patio, two bedrooms and two bathrooms.“Our plan has been to use the renderings that Walt worked on with Dorothea Redmond and to replicate those as exactly as we can,” said Walt Disney Imagineering Art Director Kim Irvine. “Her illustrations were very specific, with a color and style for each room.“But to make it special for the guests, we want it to be more than just a beautiful suite. We want it to be filled with things that might have inspired Walt as he dreamed of Disneyland."One of the most distinctive characteristics of the Dream Suite was the private balcony, which overlooked the Rivers of America. From here guests had an unobstructed view of the nighttime spectacular Fantasmic! In addition to that night’s lodging in the Disneyland Dream Suite, each selected 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway winner of the Disneyland Dream Suite would also be celebrated as the honorary grand marshal in that day’s Disneyland parade. The Suite was given out as a prize through various promotions. The original concept for Holidayland was that of a turn-of-the-century town park, with picnic areas, horseshoe pits, a baseball diamond, and perhaps an open field where a circus could come to perform. This original version would be located where the Matterhorn sits today. As Disneyland came together in 1954, it became apparent that there wasn't enough space within the park for Holidayland to become a reality, and the land (now sometimes called "Recreationland") became a picnic and recreation area, with minor seasonal holiday decorations. In November 1955, the Mickey Mouse Club Circus came to Disneyland, in the Fantasyland section of the park. This event only lasted until January 1956, and was themed to the celebration of Christmas, with promotional material referring to the circus as "Holidayland," including a November 25, 1955 Los Angeles Times article declaring "Holidayland was a roaring success. The kids consumed great amounts of popcorn, and Walt Disney enjoyed himself as much as anybody. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Grant and John head back to Epcot to see the new Circle-Vision 360 film Canada Far and Wide starring Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy. Recorded on January 16, 2020. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we venture back to World Showcase in Epcot to check out the new film Canada - Far and Wide. The guide map says: Explore Canada in an updated edition of the classic Epcot Circle-Vision 360 film. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and no Thrill Level listed as well. And now, before we experience the new film, here are five fast facts about Canada Far and Wide. 1. On November 17, 2018, it was announced that the Circle-Vision 360 film playing in the Canada Pavilion, called O’Canada, would be updated as part of the major overhaul of Epcot. Though there were previous in the days before, the film officially debuted on January 17, 2020. 2. While Martin Short did not reprise his role as narrator for the new film, Disney didn’t search Far and Wide for his replacements! The new film is narrated by Short’s SCTV Castmates, Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy! 3. The film features a brand new musical score by Canadian composer Andrew Lockington. 4. This attractions signature song, Canada (You’re A Lifetime Journey) remains unchanged from the previous version, sung by Canadian Idol winner Eva Avilla. 5. The Canada Pavilion first opened at Epcot on October 1, 1982 (the same day that the park opened at Walt Disney World). In addition to its beautiful design, the Canada pavilion also features a CircleVision film attraction called "Canada: Far and Wide", which debuted in January 2020 and replaced the former attraction called "O Canada". Narrated by Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy, Canada Far and Wide takes Epcot guests on an enchanting journey through the nation that will inspire anyone to take a visit to the real place. In this episode, we'll discuss the history of this Epcot pavilion, including the former O Canada film versions, and take you on a binaural journey to experience the show in 360-degree audio. From the mountains of China, to the plains of Kenya and even Moscow’s Red Square, filmmaker Jeff Blyth has focused his camera on all sorts of wonders of the world. Well…more like cameras... nine to be exact. Throughout his career, Blythe has directed six circle-vision films for Disney, including Portraits of Canada, Wonders of China, The Timekeeper, and Reflections of China. But that's just scratching the surface as Jeff chats with Nathan about the technical struggles of shooting a full 360 degree image for Circle Vision, his time in Africa filming the Disney feature “Cheetah” and how you can find his work in both The Shining and Blade Runner. As a very special treat, Jeff has also worked with Nathan on a director's commentary track for WDWNT's 360° presentation of his EPCOT film "Reflections of China." Be sure to check that out! Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast. We know that by now you’re probably tired of being stuck at home. Some of you may even be jonesing for the comfort of a Disney Park. Don’t worry! The internet’s got you covered! Do like so many people are doing and watch ride videos or even better, make rides at home with your family that replicate the experience of being in the parks. With all of this uncertainty, there’s a lot of speculation about when the parks will reopen, what deadlines will be pushed back, and even changes to the Disney app. This is cray, ya’ll! In Disney News, Onward came out at the wrong time and so it didn’t perform well at the box office. But don’t let that deter you if you didn’t already see it. It’s a fantastic movie that you can now rent digitally! And when you’re done with that, Disney released Frozen 2 and Rise of Skywalker early on Disney+! In other news, the wonderfully talented actor Rosario Dawson signs on to be in the next season of The Mandalorian!

Today, we’re going to be heading to infinity, and beyond, as we talk about that infamous Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear, and his many attractions around the world. Now, when talking about the many attractions to bear Buzz Lightyear’s name, it’s easy to think of Magic Kingdom having the original, but that’s actually not the case. As a matter of fact, Magic Kingdom was beaten by it’s now defunct quasi-sibling a few miles away, DisneyQuest. Buzz Lightyear AstroBlasters opened with DisneyQuest in 1998. Looking like a bumper car on steroids, AstroBlasters combined the driving and bumping of dodgems with a rubber ball cannon that could be used to blast other cars in the arena, causing them to spin uncontrollably for a few seconds. This fast-paced game was best played with two players and could command pretty high wait times, but it was certainly unique, and memorable. In November 1998, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin opened in the former home of If You Had Wings, If You Could Fly, Delta Dreamflight, and Take Flight. Utilizing the exact same layout and vehicle type as the previous tenants, Space Ranger Spin was the first laser-based interactive attraction built by Disney. In this ride, Guests board a XP-37 spaceship ride vehicle with a joystick that allows the ship to spin on the track. Throughout the ride, Guests shoot at “Z” targets located on robots, ships, landscapes (including a volcano) and other minions of the evil Emperor Zurg. Fun fact, the ride actually incorporated a few elements from the previous attraction housed in that building, including the speed tunnel from If You Had Wings, the jet engine effect and even the base of the marquee from Delta Dreamflight. Seriously, same sign, take a close look! A couple additional interesting features of Magic Kingdom’s ride include the ability to see into the attraction from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover, and it is the only version of this attraction with blasters mounted to the ride vehicle. The next version of the attraction opened in 2004 at Tokyo Disneyland, now named Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. There, it had replaced the Visionarium attraction, known as Timekeeper in the United States. While very similar to the Florida version, now the blasters could be lifted off the spaceships, allowing for much more freedom in aiming. Disneyland followed shortly thereafter in 2005, replacing the queue for the ill-fated Rocket Rods attraction, which was also previously the Circle-Vision theater. This version, similar to Tokyo, also had removable blasters, but can also send scores to visitors, along with their pictures, at home. Due to the unique home of this attraction, it has a more compact and tightly placed queue and ride path, but is still a marked improvement from the WDW original. The attraction was later added to Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, with the latter two getting new purpose-built facilities instead of replacing older attractions. Like Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland, these versions of the attraction continued to feature detached blasters. Interestingly, Hong Kong Disneyland’s version, opened in 2005, has gone to the great space station in the sky, being replaced in 2017 with the Ant Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle! attraction, based on the Marvel film. While very similar to the Buzz Lightyear attraction that preceded it, Nano Battle removes the ability to control the spin of the cars, allowing designers to focus Guest attention in the direction they choose. Despite newer and arguably more impressive rides of these types being launched since the original Space Ranger Spin premiered, these attractions are still very popular and manage to attract long waits at their parks. Certainly they are trailblazers, and it will be interesting to see what kind of interactive shooting dark rides will come to be in the future.

Until recently, Disney World featured two shows that used Circle Vision 360 technology. While "O Canada" is now closed for refurbishment, we thought it would be prime time to take a look back at the shows' history in the parks, and their evolution from the earliest stages of the technology in the 1950s. distantdisney.com twitter.com/distantdisney facebook.com/distantdisney Music by Colin Paul

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - This episode I head back to Epcot to experience all the CircleVision 360 Magic that is O'Canada! Recorded on March 21, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we go to Florida to visit the Great White North. Of course I’m talking about seeing the Circle-Vision 360 film O’ Canada! At the Canada pavilion at Epcot. Located in Epcot’s World Showcase, O’ Canada is described in the guide map by saying Discover the True North of Canada in this inspirational Circle-Vision 360 film. There are no age or height requirements for this film. Now, here are five fast fact about Epcot’s O’ Canada! 1. O’ Canada! is an Epcot opening day attraction, opening with the park on October 1, 1982. 2. Though the version of the film we will listen to today has footage from the original 1982 production, the film was updated in 2007 at the urging of the Canadian Tourism Commission. For this update, new footage was shot and Martin Short was added as the host of the film. 3. The iconic Epcot song ‘Canada - You’re A Lifelong Journey’ was updated in 2007 as well. It is now sung by Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila 4. The O’ Canada! Circle-Vision 306 theater is located in the Maple Leaf Mine in the Canada Pavilion. The theater can hold up to 600 guests per showing. 5. On November 19, 2018, Disney announced that they are working on an entirely new Circle-Vision 360 film for the Canada Pavilion that will debut in the future. Now let’s hear my experience at O’ Canada! In Epcot. After the audio I’ll give you my thoughts on this attraction so stay tuned for that. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we hear O’ Canada! At Epcot! Welcome to Episode 48.5 of the RetroWDW Podcast: "A Chat With Jeff Blyth" - We appreciate your support and hope you have been enjoying each and every episode. Be sure to check out some of our previous shows. Main Topic A Chat With Jeff Blyth Jeff Blyth joins us on this bonus episode, which is a follow-up to Episode 48, which is all about The Timekeeper. Jeff has been a film director for many years, getting his start in Circlevision with the original China film at EPCOT Center. We take a massively deep dive into what it takes to make these types of films. As you listen, your mind is going to be blown and you are in for a few surprises. Jeff has so many personal experiences with this type of film making and some of the techniques, skills and even issues all come up. We move into what it took to actually make the film for The Timekeeper. This took Circlevision to a whole new level and we learn why, as some of the techniques seem basic when you compare it to a drone shot of today. Jeff is an amazing guest that is giving you an insiders look that we have never heard before. We focus mainly on The Timekeeper, but the art and technique of Circlevision is discussed in detail. This mini episode almost feels like it could be an attraction at the old Disney-MGM Studios. You really get to learn all about the art form and everything that goes into this whole process. We would like to thank Jeff for spending time with us and we hope you enjoy this bonus episode. Next Month Join us very soon, as we finally get into Horizons. Our listeners have asked, begged and pleaded - we are finally ready to take you back to the gone, but never forgotten attraction. We thank you for your support and welcome you to enjoy all of our other offerings including our photos, restored films & The Lake Buena Vista Historical Society.
Overview: Today's podcast is a tribute to the Canada pavilion. I take a thorough look at the design, layout, theming, and talk about the Circlevision movie that's shown. Then, I spend some time talking about shopping and dining. Its another of Epcot's opening-day pavilions, so come and explore our neighbors to the north. Notes: I find the fact that Disney created a stereotypical view of Canada a little amusing. And the fact that it took them a fairly long time, and several requests from the Canadian government, to acknowledge it and tone down the point of view is striking. Still, the overall design is terrific, and the garden is beautiful. A reminder that the general overview of Epcot's World Showcase is in podcast #208 I explored the Japan pavilion in podcast #209 the Germany pavilion is in Podcast #216 And Mexico is in Podcast #233 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message
Overview: Today's podcast is a tribute to the China pavilion. I take a thorough look at the design, layout, theming, and talk about the Circlevision movie that's shown. Then, I spend some time talking about shopping and dining. Its another of Epcot's opening-day pavilions, so come and explore what was once a forbidden land. Notes: China is an interesting pavilion because it represents a communist nation - but through its culture, history and people. Take time to walk through the Lotus garden; its quite beautiful and includes indigenous plants from China. Overview: Come and take a listen as I explore the history of Walt Disney's Circlevision. There are two remaining daily shows - both at Epcot - but the history is a little surprising. Walt had a greater vision, as he often did. All entries due 4/16/2019 and a random winner will be selected. Main Topic The Timekeeper Welcome to Circlevision and The Timekeeper. This super unique format was used throughout Disney properties and this episode we dive into one of the last productions, The Timekeeper. Our entire crew has a great recollection of this film and animatronic show, starring Robin Williams. The show itself, featured a unique character based on the actual camera system and they called her, Nine Eyes. With this episode, we go scene by scene, discussing the stars, filming, production and more. The original film entitled From Time to Time, but was named The Timekeeper in Florida. We go into the location, which always felt a little off and out of place in Tomorrowland. The redo in 1994 is discussed and we hit on some of the backstory involved with this attraction, including a bit of Alien Encounter. We discuss a few other things, including the old WDW travel VHS tapes, which had some great panning shots over the years. The group also gets into the preshows and we get a little bit of history and current location talk on the Renault concept car made for the attraction, The Reinastella. This ride is somewhat unique, as you had to look forward at The Timekeeper, so it kept the audience attention, looking one way. This is a great, 'New' Tomorrowland attraction that has met our criteria and we hope you really enjoy our look back. What is your favorite memory of The Timekeeper? Was this a must-do for you and your family? We would love to hear your memories as well. Next Month Join us very soon, as we take behind the scenes with director Jeff Blyth. He is going to take us on an amazing journey, all about how these 360 films are shot. You seriously need to hear this! We thank you for your support and welcome you to enjoy all of our other offerings including our photos, restored films & The Lake Buena Vista Historical Society.

The Mouse Castle Lounge Podcast: Disney News and Interviews, Cocktails and Conversations
In our last show, historian Sam Gennawey and journalist Mark Eades shared their thoughts about Disneyland's upcoming Star Wars Land expansion. We had some lively conversations and after the dust settled, Mark stuck around. He's back today to tell us about his fascinating career, not only in his current role as multimedia reporter with the Orange County Register, but also as a 20-plus year veteran at the Walt Disney Company. In 1972, Mark started out bussing tables at the River Belle Terrace at Disneyland before becoming a ride operator in Tomorrowland. After graduating from college, he interned at the Walt Disney Studios and eventually worked his way into WED Enterprises, later known as Walt Disney Imagineering. Mark had his hand in developing attractions for the openings of Epcot and Tokyo Disneyland, attractions that included Magic Journeys and Horizons. He worked on the Circle-Vision 360 film American Journeys for the Magic Kingdom and researched the use of motion simulators for what would become Star Tours. Mark left Disney and a few years after that, began working at the Orange County Register. He's now a multimedia reporter for the Register and Disneyland is his beat. Today, Mark shares with us what it was like to be inside Disney Imagineering and what you can learn by camping out on Main Street U.S.A. for an entire day. Mark Eades is Tim's guest today in The Mouse Castle Lounge. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://themousecastle.libsyn.com/rss
Movie Theaters Enter the Fourth Dimension It will come as no surprise that the HT Guys will opt to wait for the Blu-ray version of popular movies so that we can enjoy them in the comfort of our own homes. We know that we are not alone, many of our listeners are doing the same. As our hobby grows, people are setting up relatively inexpensive home theaters that provide a quite enjoyable experience. Others will spend a little more money and create an experience that rivals what you get in the cinema. Some History Back in the day the only way to see a blockbuster the way it was intended was in a movie theater. At some point the movie would find its way onto network television but imagine watching “The Sound of Music” on a 25 inch 4:3 SD television with a small 3.5 inch speaker. Not quite what Director Robert Wise had in mind. No, the only way to really watch a movie was in theaters. Another argument for watching in theaters was that TV dramas were quite frankly amateurish in comparison to the cinema. The movies had bigger budgets, better actors, and higher production values. This resulted in Hollywood producing a better product for cinemas vs television. Quality Gap Narrows Today many of the differences between the home and cinema have been eliminated. Television and movies have similar aspect ratios, HDTVs provide better picture quality, low cost 7.1 receivers provide similar audio experiences, and Hollywood is producing cinema quality television. In some cases television has better content than all the remakes and sequels Hollywood wants to charge you $11 a ticket for. Its no wonder people are staying home and saving their money. Ara put his theater together for about $15,000, Braden spent less than $10,000. Perhaps a bit pricy but everyone who watches a movie in our rooms comes away wanting to do the same in their houses. You don't have to spend that much either. Each year we put together our Ultimate Home Theater in a Box systems which are not entry level systems but they go for about half the cost of our projector setups. These systems will provide an experience that is superior to that of the cinema. This year Braden spec'd out a 80 inch, 7.2 system with a Blu-ray player for less than $6200!! Ara's was a bit smaller, 65 inch, 9.2 audio, with Blu-ray for $7,800. When you consider that you can enjoy your home system every day! That makes the upfront cost a little easier to justify. Especially if you love watching sports! With a home setup that provides a technical experience that is equal or nearly equal to that of the cinema what does going to the movie theater offer that you can't get at home? Well how about high price ticket and concession prices, noisy inconsiderate people texting and posting selfies to facebook, and twenty minutes of commercials and trailers. Yeah… we can't wait to go to a movie theater. Its no wonder people are staying away in droves. The three to six month wait for a movie to hit the home market is goes by very fast. How many times have you said, “That's already out??” If release windows for home distribution keeps getting smaller the multiplex may be a thing of the past. What can be done? Its clear that the cinemas need to do something to draw people back. We say cinema because filmmakers can choose to ride the wave and go straight to home. Whether it be physical media or streaming, Hollywood can deliver their content to the people who want it. This problem is really a cinema operator problem. Well, good scripts may draw a few more people to the cinema but not enough to stem the tide in our opinion. Theaters need new tech that is not available in the home. They need a way to differentiate themselves from our living rooms. And it has to be tech that improves the experience. We don't think 3D was that tech. Plus it was available in the home at the same time. Some theaters are experimenting with a 4D experience. Think sensurround from the 70's. In this case theaters are looking for ways to further immerse the viewer into the story. One way is bigger screens that wrap around you. Yes some Imax theaters have this and if you lived in southern California in the 60s and 70s you could have gone to Disneyland and watched Wonders of China on Circle Vision. Circle Vision would be a bit too gimmicky but adding screens to the front sides for 50 or so feet would open up the picture and provide a more immersive experience. One that would be more difficult to create at home. Better seats with motion actuators could provide a feeling of motion and deeper bass. It would be nice if there was an override switch for those who get motion sickness so they can turn off or dial back the effect. They could also provide speakers in the seats that would provide a more intimate experience than surround speakers way at the end of the auditorium. For the full effect theater rooms can be built with misting systems that can provide a rain effect and fans that can provide wind. While we are at it why not add scents to heighten the experience. These features would need to be used judiciously so as not to burn the viewer out. But if used correctly it could really help with the experience. The best example of “Smellovision” in use today is on the simulator ride called “Soaring over California” at California Adventure in Anaheim. When you fly over the orange groves you can smell oranges or pines as you fly through Yosemite. The effect is subtle and it does enhance the experience. Some theaters offer higher quality food and alcohol with ninja like wait staff to bring it to you. But can you really enjoy a good steak while watching a movie? Drinks sure! This type of arrangement appeals to a minority. The one thing that can really help the experience is to have a zero tolerance for chatty patrons and those that text. Maybe offer a texting and non-texting viewing. If you text in a non-text room you will be asked to go to the screening room where texts are allowed. While filmmakers can help get people in the seats by creating better movies, we still think its the movie theater experience that needs to be fixed. Let us know what it would take to get you to go spend $50 to watch Hollywood's latest blockbuster?
The Sweep Spot - Former Disneyland Cast Members Talking Disneyland
In this episode we take a look at an attraction that was there on opening day, but in a slightly different form. This is a theatre called Circle-Vision. The films that were shown inside this theatre were fun, but the real attraction was watching scenes in 360 degrees. Hope you enjoy this! www.thesweepspot.com

WEDway Radio - Walt Disney World and Disneyland Examined with some Disney History
In this episode, Matt and Nate discuss the evolution of one of Disney's original theme park attraction designs, the Circle Vision 360. Although this attraction was based on a new style of film presentation, the Cinerama; this attraction was a Disney original and one of the few original attractions that is found in a Disey park today roughly unchanged. This attaction was one of the few attractions that lasted from the early days of Disneylands Tomorrowland and was updated several time sover the years, eventually changing its name from Circlerama to Circle Vision 360, housing such filsm as America the Beautiful, American Journeys and a Tour of the West. In Walt Disney World, this attraction became even more advanced as it truly became an immersive experience once the Timekeeper moved in 1994, bringing audio animatronics, special effects, theming and story to a whole new level in the Circle Vision 360 theater. In Epcot, the countries of the World Showcase Pavilion probably give us the best example of Circle Vision 360's potential as we are given a 12 minute tour of Canada and China. Enjoy!
The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station
Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #174 for the week of June 13, 2010. It’s time to fire up my Walt Disney World Wayback Machine, as we travel back through time to visit some of the history of the Disney parks. This week, our time travel has a double meaning, as it is the focus of the attraction we will visit. For more than a decade, The Timekeeper in Tomorrowland took guests on a celebrity-filled, 360 degree journey through history, meeting famous figures and visiting historic landmarks along the way... before, as in true Disney fashion, something goes wrong and hilarity ensues. We will take a detailed look back at the attraction’s history, what almost came to be in Tomorrowland, thoughts on the Circle-Vision technology and much more. I'll play more of your voicemails and have a few announcements at the end of the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show.
