This week Ps Andy challenged us to consider what 'P' are we resisting change in.. 'Places' (are you ready to move?), 'People' (are you ready to make way for new people?) or 'Plans' (are we ready to change our plans?).This is a message about recognising where we are at in our attachment issues - to places, to people, to plans; letting the Lord reveal it to us, surrendering them to him and asking for his help, to take the next step, beginning to look forward to receiving the healthy and secure life God has planned for us and made possible through Jesus; to live in stability and freedom, comfortable in intimacy, trusting, and freely communicating our needs first with him and also each other, without fear of rejection or abandonment.

This Friday is Juneteenth, a holiday marking the date that some of the last enslaved people in the Confederacy received word that they were free. Juneteenth celebrations date back to the 1860s, but it didn't become a federal holiday in 2021. Now, communities across our region mark Juneteenth with storytelling events, speaker series, community meals and music. The Highland Center for the Arts in Greensboro will host Singing a Journey of Freedom: Songs of Slavery and Emancipation on Friday. The program began as a research project by Mat Callahan, a musician and author currently residing in Bern, Switzerland. He uncovered songs composed and sung by enslaved people and abolitionists that had been buried by history. Callahan then teamed up with Dr. Kathy Bullock to bring this music to life. Bullock is a visiting professor of music at Bennington College, as well as a singer, arranger and choral conductor specializing in gospel, spirituals and classical works by composers from the African diaspora. We are also joined by Rev. Leon Dunkley, an ethnomusicologist and a minister at the North Chapel in Woodstock. Then, Joan Gorman of the Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh shares the history of the museum, which used to be a stop on the Underground Railroad.

A wise substitute teacher once said, “you're not hardcore unless you live hardcore,” and actor and musician Rivkah Reyes clearly took that lesson to heart. Reyes, who played bassist Katie in the 2003 comedy School of Rock, has since become a real-life rockstar, recently releasing the hard-hitting, and hardcore, new single “Miss Congeniality.”Borrowing its title, and a bit of lyrical inspiration, from the Y2K classic starring Sandra Bullock, the track, produced by frequent collaborator Blonder (Anna Shoemaker, Ryn Weaver), uses the metaphor of a beauty pageant to explore the pressure to make yourself more digestible, only to be left with the sting of coming in second place. In the accompanying music video, co-directed by Reyes and Katie Colwell, edited by Jill Blutt, and filmed at OutBox, a queer and trans boxing gym in Bushwick, Reyes channels her inner Gracie Hart, Bullock's character in the film. Robed in a hyper-feminine pink dress and sparkling tiara, she steps into the boxing ring to grapple with herself while challenging societal expectations of femininity. On the latest episode of The Juice Box Sessions, we sat down with the New York City-based indie rock/pop musician and actor to discuss the new single, doing her own stage makeup, and what's next.Cover Art Photo By: Jon Del RealStay connected with Juice Box Press:https://www.instagram.com/thejuiceboxpress/https://www.tiktok.com/@thejuiceboxpresshttps://www.facebook.com/thejuiceboxpress/https://www.pinterest.com/thejuiceboxpress/

Alan Rozenshtein, Research Director at Lawfare and Visiting Senior Fellow at the Institute for Law & AI (LawAI), spoke with Christoph Winter, LawAI Founding Director and Assistant Professor of Law and AI at the University of Cambridge, and LawAI Senior Research Fellow Charlie Bullock, about their new paper "Radical Optionality: Governing Transformative AI Under Uncertainty," which argues that, given the possibility of transformative AI within the next decade and deep uncertainty about its capabilities and risks, governments should aggressively build the institutional capacity to regulate competently when needed, rather than either deferring to the market or locking in premature substantive rules. The conversation covered the four foundational assumptions underlying the paper and what makes the optionality "radical"; the difficulty of regulating an exponentially improving and poorly understood technology and what it means to "feel the AGI"; why a pure permissionless-innovation approach breaks down once the national-security implications of transformative AI come into view; why the European precautionary approach risks regulating without the expertise to enforce; the centrality of hiring and talent and what an adequately funded U.S. counterpart to the UK AI Security Institute would look like; the concrete work that such an agency would do, including evaluations, standard-setting, and procurement-side cybersecurity requirements modeled on CMMC; the importance of building international information-sharing channels among liberal democracies before they are urgently needed; and the case against broad federal preemption of state AI laws before any federal regulatory framework exists. In this inspiring episode of Daily Influence, Gregg-Brooke Koleno sits down with Dr. Audra Bullock, former NASA electrical engineer and founder of Friends of Foster Care, whose journey proves that true impact begins when we choose to act. After a powerful moment watching a child in the foster care system share his desire for a family, Audra's path shifted from engineering excellence to human-centered leadership. What followed was a mission-driven organization now supporting thousands of children with stability, education, and opportunity. Audra shares how she transitioned from a data-driven career at NASA to navigating the emotional and complex world of foster care, why influence—not just information—is the key to creating change, and how small, intentional actions can spark a ripple effect in our communities. If you've ever wondered how to turn compassion into action or felt called to make a difference but didn't know where to start, this conversation will challenge and inspire you. In this episode, you'll learn: • The defining moment that led Audra from NASA to nonprofit leadership • Why data alone doesn't drive change—and what actually does • Practical ways to move from intention to meaningful impact • How small conversations can create life-changing outcomes for children in foster care • The importance of aligning your influence with purpose With over 368,000 children in foster care in the U.S., the need for awareness, support, and action has never been greater. Hannah Kakar Anderson, Abby Konoposky, and Neera Jain to discuss a paper that confronts some of the most painful and persistent realities in medical education: The Call Is Coming from Inside the House. Together, they explore how racism and ableism intersect in the experiences of racially minoritized medical learners with disabilities—and why traditional conversations about diversity and inclusion often fail to capture these realities. Using disability critical race theory (DisCrit), narrative inquiry, and counter-storytelling, the authors illuminate what participants described as a haunted "house of medicine"—a space marked by exclusion, surveillance, distorted reflections of self, and support systems that too often become sources of harm rather than protection. Through powerful metaphors drawn from horror—No Trespassing, Hall of Mirrors, and The Call Coming from Inside the House—the conversation examines how institutional structures and well-intentioned actors alike can perpetuate systems that marginalize learners. But this episode is not simply about oppression. It is equally a conversation about resistance, agency, and survival. Grounded in Caitlin Seida's poem Hope Is Not a Bird, Emily, It's a Sewer Rat, the authors reflect on the fierce and complicated hope carried by learners who persist despite environments that were never designed with them in mind. Their stories are not one-dimensional accounts of struggle—they are acts of testimony, community building, and imagination for a different future. The discussion reviews: How racism and ableism operate as intertwined forces within medical education. Why horror became a powerful analytic metaphor for understanding participants' experiences. What it means to be simultaneously hyper-visible and invisible in training environments. How institutional actors may unintentionally reproduce harmful systems—and what it means to recognize "the call" within ourselves. Why the authors resisted easy solutions and instead invite educators to sit with discomfort before rushing to reform. How participants' stories function as "apocalyptic logs" and acts of "leaving evidence" for future learners and institutions. Dr. Anderson brings a clinician-educator's perspective and deep commitment to educational equity, reflecting on disability as both a personal and professional identity. Abby Konoposky offers a linguist's and educational psychologist's lens, unpacking agency, metaphor, and the power of story to challenge dominant narratives. Dr. Jain contributes expertise in ableism, disability studies, and anti-ableist practice, connecting participants' experiences to broader histories of disability rights and racial justice. Together, they invite listeners not only to understand these stories—but to reckon with what they reveal about medicine itself. This episode asks us to imagine what medicine might become if we listened more closely to the people who have long been navigating its haunted spaces—and if we allowed their stories to reshape the house itself. Her work focuses on educational equity in medical education, with particular attention to disability equity and the creation of learning environments that support diverse learners and the communities they serve. Abigail (Abby) Konoposky, PhD, supports medical education research in the Department of Psychiatry at Northwell Health. Trained in linguistics and educational psychology, her scholarship explores language, agency, and the ways stories shape educational experiences and systems. Destination On The Left

On this episode of Destination on the Left, I talk with Jason Bullock, Founder of Bodhisys and owner of Carolina Rides, about how delivering excellent customer service depends on systems and processes that support the many moving parts of reservations, inventory, and deliveries. He shares why he developed Bodhisys, a reservation management system tailored for the unique needs of rental businesses, optimizing everything from inventory management to delivery efficiency. Listen in as we discuss the importance of streamlined operations in creating exceptional customer experiences and fostering industry collaboration. What You Will Learn in This Episode: How Jason transitioned from a background in logistics and packaging to owning and operating multiple vacation rental and bike businesses Why customer service and efficient logistics are crucial for success in the rental industry Challenges Jason faced with existing reservation and booking platforms, and how this led to the creation of Bodhisys How Bodhisys uses technology to streamline inventory, delivery logistics, and communications, to provide a better customer experience Why seasonal pricing and adaptability in operations are important How Jason is partnering with competitors through technology and shared platforms to uplift the industry as a whole What impact technology-driven efficiencies have on customer satisfaction, repeat business, and overall profitability in the rental space The Art and Logistics of Rentals When most people think of the travel industry, glamorous destinations and dazzling activities come to mind. But Jason's world is more about the nitty-gritty of inventory management, deliveries, and keeping up with vacationers' evolving needs. His business delivers thousands of bikes and equipment items to vacationers at resorts and private rentals in the Hilton Head and Charleston areas. COVID-19 only magnified these challenges, as business whiplashed from 4% to 140% of historical sales within a week—forcing immediate innovation to keep up with demand and ensure guests received what they needed, when and where they needed it. The Birth of Bodhisys As business boomed, so did complaints—especially from frustrated guests who had trouble finding their rentals amid the sea of bikes and equipment. Seeing that traditional booking software wasn't designed for the logistics-heavy rental of "stuff," Jason was motivated by dissatisfied customers and exhausted employees to build a smarter system. The solution was building Bodhisys, a reservation management system purpose-built for logistics, inventory, and delivery—as opposed to the "activity first" platforms dominating the market. With features like photo geolocation of delivered items, automated customer messaging, and dynamic inventory management. Systems = Better Business, Better Experiences While the technology behind Bodhisys is robust, its true value lies in the ripple effect it creates for business owners and travelers alike. With real-time communications, automated reminders, and demand prediction, operators can plan staffing, adjust inventory, and meet seasonal swings without being blindsided. Importantly, these changes aren't just about operational ease, they have an impact on customer satisfaction. Similar to Amazon's familiar delivery notifications, Bodhisys provides travelers with the same transparency and reliability during their vacations. Which, in turn, leads to happier guests, less on-site confusion, and more repeat business. When twenty-seven-year-old James Bullock was shot and killed in St. Louis in the winter of 1958, investigators immediately focused their attention on Bullock's wife, Edna, who was the beneficiary of her husband's large life insurance policy. Witnesses recalled seeing the victim being chased by a man with a gun on the night of the murder, and detectives suspected Edna had arranged for her husband to be killed so she could collect the insurance money. They didn't know it at the time, but St. Louis investigators were investigating what was to be the first victim in a decades-long career of a most unlikely hitman and serial killer. Although they had their suspicions that Edna Bullock had enlisted the help of her ex-husband, Glen Engleman, in the murder of her new husband, it would take many more years before those suspicions were confirmed. And by that time, Engleman, a successful suburban dentist had taken the lives of several more people, all to satisfy his own interest in calculated and carefully planned assassinations. This week on Forgotten Cinema, the Mikes head into orbit with "Gravity", the Audience Choice winner for this season. Both Mike Butler and Mike Field really enjoy the film, and it is easy to see why it earned the audience vote. While it may not hit quite the same heights as that first IMAX 3D experience, "Gravity" still holds up as an intense and visually stunning survival story.Sandra Bullock carries the film almost entirely on her own, delivering a performance that keeps the tension grounded and the stakes personal. George Clooney adds a memorable and charismatic presence that helps balance the film's more intense moments. The Mikes do have a couple of small nitpicks. Butler feels the film loses a bit of momentum toward the end of the second act, and Field is not a big fan of the repeated space station problem Bullock's character has to face. Still, these are minor issues in an otherwise gripping and well-crafted film.Tense, immersive, and technically impressive, "Gravity" remains a standout survival story and a deserving Audience Choice selection. What's your favorite "realistic" sci-fi film? ABOUT THIS MESSAGE What if the thing you've been asking God for… He's already given you? In this message, we unpack what it really means to be blessed and why so many of us are still begging for what's already been provided. God didn't wait for you to get it all together before He moved. He already made a way. The challenge isn't getting God to do more—it's learning how to live from what He's already done. When you shift your perspective from lack to provision, everything changes. You're not trying to get blessed. You already are. ABOUT UNION CHURCH We exist for one thing: to help unite people with purpose. Matthew Vernon Whalan joins the show to discuss Bullock: Chronicles of Deprivation and Despair in an American Prison, an interview-driven, investigative journalistic, and collectively narrated portrait of life inside Bullock Correctional Facility in Alabama. Through the words of incarcerated people themselves, we explore the everyday realities that rarely make it into public view: mental health crisis and predation, sewage and infrastructure collapse, cruel and unusual punishment, sleep deprivation, violence, drugs and overdose, and the informal social orders that take shape when official protection fails. This book is truly an act of witness -- and a demand that we look directly at what incarceration actually does to human beings. Once examined, we can see the U.S. prison system as a disturbing microcosm of the pathologies infecting and eating away at the broader American society.  Support Matthew and his work directly on Venmo @Matthew-Whalan-1 Get 15% off any book at Left Wing Books HERE Check out our previous episode with Project Hope t0 Abolish the Death Penalty HERE   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Support Rev Left and get bonus episodes on Patreon Make a one-time donation to Rev Left at BuyMeACoffee.com/revleftradio Follow RLR on IG HERE Learn more about Rev Left HERE
