Aisha K. Staggers had her first major publication, an album review, in The New Haven Register while just a sophomore in high school. Another series of reviews published in The Hartford Courant followed. By the time she reached college, Aisha was writing for the literary magazine and interning at a local radio station, ABC-affiliate as a writer in the news department and in the A&R department of an independent record company. As a graduate student at Fisk University, Aisha asked Dr. Raymond Winbush to chair her thesis because 1) he was one of the most renowned voices in black culture and academia, and 2) he was a Prince fan. His scholarship and guidance led Aisha to an early career as a professor of social sciences and later an administrator in higher education. Aisha has also served as a director of education and policy research centers and on the staff of legislative commissions. She previously served on the Executive Board of the CT Young Democrats' Women's Caucus, an avid campaigner and has remained active in politics and public policy. Jill Jones is our special guest for this conversation. Ms. Jones is activist, feminist, former collaborator with Paisley Park. Hilary Rosen and Tammy Hadad join Adrienne and Doug to discuss the first Democratic debate this week in Miami. Tammy and Hillary are two DC veterans. Tammy was the executive producer behind MSNBC's political coverage, Hardball with Chris Matthews, Larry King Live, Today Show, and The Late Late Show. She shares her insight into how NBC will be covering the debate and what to watch for as things get going. Hillary Rosen is a partner and managing director at political strategy firm, SKDKnickerbocker, and served as president of the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Hillary's experience covering politics is second to none and she makes some interesting predictions about the debate, nomination, and 2020 election.

"I look at buying raw food for some of the dogs in rescue the same way I look at having to buy medication or taking them to the vet"  Hillary Rosen, the founder of A Purposeful Rescue in Los Angeles, is the wave of the future when it comes to dog rescue. Hillary rescues some of the neediest dogs I've seen, and I've been working in rescue for a long time. She primarily focuses on senior and medical needs dogs. Anything from autoimmune issues to severe malnourishment - she has some amazing before and after photos of the dog's she's saved. What makes her different, and amazing might I add, is that she approaches veterinary care for the dogs by using food as medicine.  The world of shelter medicine is a much different type of medicine than a holistic approach. Shelter medicine includes overvaccination, early spay/neuter, poor diet, extremely stressful conditions, minimal supportive care, etc... and I don't fault rescues at all. Cost is a major factor when you're a non-profit organization and saving as many lives as you can is the goal. However, when an advocate like Hillary comes around who works tirelessly to approach the whole dog despite the uphill battle of rescue bill costs, this is something to be shared because it can be done!  This episode will give you insight into A Purposeful Rescue and how Hillary rescues dogs giving them support with raw diets, alternative holistic care - and more! 1 day after we recorded this podcast, Hillary had to put down sweet Huey for internal bleeding. My heart broke for her. He was her everything. This podcast is still very relevant and we decided to air it as-is. Love you Hillary. So sorry "Do you love your pet?"  "Nutrition is not a crisis until it is. If you are not working to be healthy than you are a actively becoming unhealthy."   A dog's diet has proven time and again to derail illness and at times cure a dog. With a booming pet industry, it is time to look at a diet for many reasons. In October, shortly after our podcast Hillary Rosen got a cancer diagnosis for her dog Huey that put her life into spin cycle. She went on a rampage reading everything she could, which lead her to Billy from Answers Pet Food. In today's podcast, Billy joined Hillary and I to talk about how important a dog's diet REALLY is. I learned a ton....you will, too.    

Hey everyone. After a brief hiatus to deal with some personal items, I am back. I feel that it is important to tell the good stories of the world and though my brief break was needed, I am happy to be back. Hillary Rosen is one of those people that I just gravitate to. I love everything she does and all she stands for and though I have never met her, I have SO much respect for her. She is very open about her opinions and I so value that.
