Comedian and musician Reggie Watts has embraced his weirdness and made a career of it. Watts starred as the bandleader on CBS's The Late Late Show with James Corden and IFC's Comedy Bang Bang! He joins host Krys Boyd to discuss his memoir about growing up mixed race in a small town, and how he embraced his differences to find what's cool. His book is “Great Falls, MT: Fast Times, Post-Punk Weirdos, and a Tale of Coming Home Again.”
"The fact that music is so important for our constitution - that music is almost how we move in the world, that our own bodies are played through by musical forms, that the way we relate to our own way of being in the world is sort of mediated by music - this is powerful stuff. But it's not always very fitting to us. We hear a lot of music in our lives, we don't always choose what we hear. We don't choose our analyst's musicality, we don't first check what kind of musicality an analyst has. We are bombarded by music; music can be imposed upon us, it can make us feel within ourselves in a way that doesn't feel right to us. There is a lot of complexity here as we think about this matter of music being so central to us. But we can find the music that works for us, but we don't create the music. It belongs to the realm of collective cultural life. There is a lot of struggle in music, and in the analytic setting there is a lot of struggle - because for many patients a lot of the work rests on whether there can be any shared sensory experience or not.” Episode Description: We begin with recognizing that the process of human musicalization begins in utero and forms the basis of much of psycho-somatic-social life. Peter, Michael and Adam's written collaboration, Here I'm Alive - The Spirit of Music in Psychoanalysis is intended to be a musical book about psychoanalysis - a representation of how music binds us to the individual and cultural domains of life. We discuss rhythmizing consciousness, atavistic vs enhancing music, and the blues as a companion soundtrack for loss and tribulation. We take up the relationship between Freud's dream book and his joke book, how present analytic melodies contain aspects of the past, and how dissociation requires a remusicalization of the psychoanalytic situation. We close with Adam reading a paragraph which includes "The capacity of the sexual drive to propel the body back into musical movement and transmute the seizure of trauma into conducted energy to ground the current." Our Guests: Peter Goldberg, Ph.D., is a Personal and Supervising Analyst at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California, Chair of Faculty at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis, and on the faculty of the Wright Institute in Berkeley. He has presented widely and written on a range of clinical and theoretical topics, including the evolution of clinical theory in psychoanalysis, sensory experience in analysis, the concept of the analytic frame, the theory and treatment of dissociative states, non-representational states; and the impact of social trauma on individual psychology. He is in private practice in Albany, CA. Michael Levin, Psy.D. is a Training Analyst and Faculty Member at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. He has taught and presented on topics including the work of Laplanche, phenomenology, and psychoanalysis, and the place of psychoanalysis in cultural and intellectual history. He is in private practice in San Francisco. Adam Blum, Psy.D. is an Adjunct Faculty Member at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. In this episode, Joe interviews internationally renowned musician, comedian, writer, and actor, Reggie Watts. Watts starred on “Comedy Bang! Bang!,” most recently was the bandleader on CBS's “The Late Late Show with James Corden” for the last 8 seasons, and just released his memoir, "Great Falls, MT." Watts discusses his early days of LSD use and how he felt psychedelics and cannabis were useful (in contrast to alcohol); how movies and TV rarely get the psychedelic experience right (and is that because writers haven't experienced it?); and how the Situationist Movement inspired his concept of being a “disinformationist,” which he uses to bring an instability and psychedelic nature to his shows. And he discusses ketamine: why he loves it (especially with other people), a party he recently attended where everyone was open to trying it together, and why the group collectively agreeing to go deeper is so important to the experience. He shares his thoughts on treating certain drugs as bases and others as modifiers, and how the wrong drugs are being treated as bases; the negative feedback loops some drugs (cocaine, nitrous oxide) send us into; psychedelic exceptionalism and the low quality, synthesized drugs created solely out of capitalistic greed; microdosing and the question of whether or not it's become popular out of a fear of going deeper; what he wants to bring to to the psychedelic conversation; and why sometimes (in the right context), “going off the rails” can be a great thing. Det här är berättelsen om världens mest streamade artist, en rappare som vänt upp och ner på reggaetonens machoideal och alltid är redo att slåss för Puerto Rico. Lyssna på alla avsnitt i Sveriges Radio Play. Februari 2020. Jimmy Fallon sitter framför en kuliss av ett nattligt New York i The Tonight Show. Men texten är på spanska: “Mataron a Alexa, no a un hombre con falda”. Medverkande: Javiera Ninoska, Carmen DicksonDokumentären är gjord av Elinor Ahlborn i oktober 2023Producent Joanna KorbutiakExekutiv producent Lars TruedsonSlutmix Fredrik NilssonProgramledare Siri HillLjudklippen i dokumentären kommer från Billboard, ABC News, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Alofoke Radio, Grammys, WWE, AP, Youtube, Telemundo och Fox.

Comedian Joe Zimmerman Talks Comedy, Joke Building, New Special and More! Joe grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia, and started his comedy career in North Carolina shortly after graduating Davidson College (where obviously, he was an English major). While starting out in the South, he launched a tour with three friends, called “The Beards of Comedy” and landed a record deal with Comedy Central Records. In 2012, he moved to New York City, quickly appearing on The Late Late Show and John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show, as well as Montreal's Just for Laughs festival. His resume has since grown to include The Tonight Show, Conan, Nickelodeon, Last Comic Standing, and his own Comedy Central Half Hour, and the Comedy Cellar's topical show, “This Week at the Comedy Cellar”. Joe's first solo album Smiling at Wolves (2014) reached number two on the iTunes comedy charts, and shortly after Paste Magazine named him one of 10 best comedians from the south. His second album, Innocence, came out on Comedy Central Records (2018) and is played regularly on Sirius XM radio, and in 2019 he recorded a dry bar special with upwards of million views on YouTube. His first, fully produced one-hour comedy special “Cult Classic”, is set to come out in 2023, directed by Nate Bargatze and produced by 800 Pound Gorilla. Aside from headlining comedy clubs, he tours regularly in theaters and arenas with comedy legend Brian Regan and rising super-star Nate Bargatze. Joe has also contributed humor writing to The New York Times and The New Yorker, and has appeared on numerous podcasts and radio, including 2 Dope Queens, The Scientists, Dork Forest, StarTalk, Bob & Tom, The Todd Barry Podcast, and The Artie Lange Show. http://www.zimmermancomedy.com/ Connect with us on our website for more amazing conversations! www.brettallanshow.com Got some feedback? Craig Kilborn has indelibly and stylishly stamped his unique, hosty brand across the worlds of Sports and Late Night Comedy.Mixing a patrician personality, with a razor sharp wit and folding in a pinch of irreverent snark, Lord Kilby has now taken up residency at manner houses in the lands of Instagram and podcasting. A star high school athlete, Craig excelled at basketball, knowing that his future lay in comedy. He blended his strengths as a smart aleck sportscaster in Monterey, California where he acquired his taste for the fancy which he now celebrates on Instagram and on his podcast, The Life Gorgeous.Craig joins us with action items for those who aspire to live their lives more gorgeously. (You may need a boat.) And despite the adversity of no adversity, he tells us how a tall, handsome, high school jock was able to acquire so sharp a wit. His SportsCenter stint forever changed the tone of sportscasting and, on a personal note, led to a surprise phone call from new fan, Bill Murray! We discuss Craig's background as The Daily Show's inaugural host, taking over for Tom Snyder on The Late, Late Show, and why he eventually lost his passion for the politics of it all and stepped away. Plus, Weezy shares highlights from the performance of Unforgettable Sunrise, a symphony written by non-verbal autistic teen, Jacob Rock.Fritz is recommending A Haunting in Venice, now in theaters and Weezy strongly advises you to watch the documentary, Torn on Hulu.Path Points of Interest:The Craig Kilborn Podcast: The Life GorgeousCraig Kilborn on InstagramCraig Kilborn on FacebookCraig Kilborn on WikipediaUnforgettable Sunrise HighlightsA Haunting in Venice - In Theaters Torn on Hulu

Have you ever got drunk with a Vicar in a Vicarage? Would you believe it, that's Dominic Byrne's weekend plans! It's the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Podcast and this week it's been all lads-lads-lads as Pippa has been away on her jollies. Joining Chris in the studio was Derren Brown to talk about his West End show that he is not, in fact, performing in, and Matt Lucas, who reckoned Chris would have smashed the vicar in his new musical novel (it's not quite how it sounds). Chef Tom Kerridge called into the studio and, in classic Chris fashion, had his new recipe book pulled apart. I mean, a pie should have fully enclosed pastry sides, right? New host of The Late Late Show (the irish one, not James Corden's replacement) Patrick Kielty also came by the studio as well as everyone's favourite Eastenders actor turned gang fighter Ross Kemp. In amongst all of those guests, Chris found time to wage WAR on LBC's Nick Ferrari over false allegations of stolen Kedgeree. No presenters were harmed in this war, but we are still suffering from the stench… Anyway, this week we also had: Chris does magicDom finds a new favourite song in a supermarketUnheard bits from James' Birthday SurpriseEnjoy! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio XWeekdays 6:30-10am

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by returning panellists in Broadcast/Sports Journalist Russ Williams, Sports Presenter Marcus Buckland and Actor TJ Ramini, as Richarlison grabbed his first goal of the season before providing an assist for Dejan Kulusevski's winner as Tottenham scored twice in injury time to beat Sheffield United 2-1. Spurs were heading for their first Premier League defeat under Ange Postecoglou after Gustavo Hamer put the newly-promoted side 1-0 up in the 73rd minute in north London. Postecoglou turned to Richarlison and the £60million forward rewarded the faith of his head coach with a headed equaliser in the eighth minute of added time for only his second league goal since joining from Everton last summer. There was still time for a grandstand finish and it arrived in the 10th minute of stoppage time when Richarlison set up Dejan Kulusevski to rifle home to make it four league wins in a row for Tottenham ahead of next weekend's derby away to Arsenal.
