Both the Whitney and Fourstardave are Breeders' Cup Challenge Series “Win and You're In” races, offering automatic berths into the Breeders' Cup.Get their picks, longshots, and best bets for one of the biggest weekends of the summer.
The Grade 1, $1 million Whitney Stakes this weekend at Saratoga and the introduction of a new 3-year-old series that excludes the Preakness Stakes are the talk of the Ron Flatter Racing Pod. Acacia Clément from Fox Sports and the New York Racing Association TV team discusses the Whitney rematch of Magnitude against his three closest pursuers from the Stephen Foster (G1). She also talks about other highlights on the card that includes three other Grade 1 races. Nitrogen is not to be missed as she tries to become the seventh female horse ever to win the Whitney. General manager Jonathan Green from D.J. Stables talks about why he and trainer Mark Casse decided this would be a good spot for their 4-year-old filly. Ed DeRosa takes his turn in the handicapping rotation. In addition to offering tips for the Whitney and other weekend races, he weighs in on the story of the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes being the centerpieces of the latest alliance between Churchill Downs Inc. and the New York Racing Association. The late jockey Robby Albarado is remembered with an archived interview from the Eclipse Awards in January 2009, when Curlin was honored as the horse of the year for the second time in a row. Co-hosts John Cherwa of the Los Angeles Times and Keith Nelson of Fairmount Park offer their thoughts about where this week's developments leave the Triple Crown. The Ron Flatter Racing Pod via Horse Racing Nation is sponsored by 1/ST BET. It is available via free subscription from Apple, Firefox, iHeart and Spotify as well as HorseRacingNation.com.
In The Money Media's Peter Thomas Fornatale is joined by NBC Sports contributor Randy Moss to go over some of the major changes that have recently been announced inside of the Triple Crown Series in horse racing. Earlier this week, Churchill Downs and the New York Racing Association announced that they would team to present a six-race series spanning from May to November with the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes serving as part of this new series for 3 year olds. The announcement brought to question to fate and state of the Preakness Stakes, which for long has been scrutinized for its close proximity to the Kentucky Derby on the racing calendar. Soon after Churchill Downs and NYRA announced the new series, Maryland governor Wes Moore announced that the Preakness Stakes would be moved to 22 days after the running of the Kentucky Derby in the hopes that the Derby runner would take a shot at the Triple Crown. But with this new series in the fold on the stakes schedule, the placement and status of the Preakness currently sits in jeopardy. Randy Moss joins PTF to break down the happenings behind the scenes of the Triple Crown for the last few years. Randy, a longtime advocate for adjusting the timing of the races on the Triple Crown, goes over the feuds between tracks and organizations that have stymied any remedy to the Triple Crown, which itself has struggled as a series in recent years with the Kentucky Derby winner opting off the trail entirely over the last two years. Both winners, Kentucky Derby 2025 champ Sovereignty and Kentucky Derby 2026 champ Golden Tempo, resurfaced to race in the Belmont Stakes and win, spurring further controversy about the value of the Triple Crown since both horses had just the Preakness Stakes missing from their resumes.

Keith Murphy and Andy Fales react to one of the most controversial rulings in recent college sports history before diving into horse racing, NBA Finals talk, and an inspiring visit from a broadcasting legend.
Nick joined this morning by Racing TV's Lydia Hislop to reflect on the Betfred Derby Festival. They start with the controversial decision by the stewards to declare Benvenuto Cellini, the Derby favourite, a non-runner after getting his foot caught up in the stalls and crossing the line in 10th place. Simon Nott, who was reporting for Star Sports from the betting ring on the day, explained how this all went down and how punters were affected. Lydia and Nick also discuss the merits of Derby winner Christmas Day and how highly we can rank that performance given the attritional conditions with Dan Barber giving Timeform's view, whilst William Haggas shares his delight at Maltese Cross finishing second and looks at what might be next for him. Francis Graffard drops in briefly to give an update on Calandagan, who was never going in the Coronation Cup, and then we review the action stateside with Adam Mills of Total Performance Data looking at the Belmont Stakes. Finally, Eva O'Neill is at the Goffs Land Rover sale speaking to Peter Molony about the two-year-old section.
In The Money Media's Peter Thomas Fornatale (PTF) is joined by handicapper and horseplayer Nick Tammaro to take a look back at a loaded weekend of horse racing action from the Belmont Stakes Festival meeting at Saratoga! The pair go over some of the highlight stakes performances from the weekend and of course later discuss how the 3-year-old division is shaping since Kentucky Derby 2026 winner Golden Tempo proved his last-to-first rally was no fluke by winning Belmont Stakes 2026 over Commandment and Renegade, who was foiled as the favorite in both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. Trainer Cherie DeVaux again made history by winning two of the three jewels of horse racing's Triple Crown and becoming the second woman to ever train a winner in the Belmont Stakes, the first being Jena Antonucci when Arcangelo won Belmont Stakes 2023. The pair of wins in the Triple Crown by Golden Tempo again raises the discussion on whether the string of the Triple Crown as we know it is a viable series under current training standards and preferences, sparking debate that comes down to whether the history and pageantry of the Triple Crown should be set aside to create a run of races that attracts the modern thoroughbred stars and sustains the national audience that the Triple Crown tends to draw every single year. PTF wrote more about the state of the American Triple Crown and what the sport can do about it over on At The Races: https://www.attheraces.com/belmont-stakes-racing-festival-at-saratoga/should-the-timing-of-the-us-triple-crown-be-changedDon't forget also about the biggest handicapping contest of the Monmouth Park year this Saturday, June 13 — the $2,000 Pick Your Prize Handicapping Challenge.
