A catastrophic sewer line collapse has sent more than 240 million gallons of raw sewage into the Potomac River, triggering what the EPA calls an ecological crisis of “historic proportion.” The political finger‑pointing around the Potomac River sewage disaster has become almost as messy as the spill itself. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and other regional leaders argue the federal government bears responsibility for coordinating the response to one of the largest sewage spills in U.S. history. Meanwhile, environmental advocates note that DC Water operates the failed Potomac Interceptor pipe and had already identified it as needing repair. The federal takeover of D.C. police is now in its third week, and we were joined on this week's show by guests with different perspectives on the federal law enforcement surge in the District.Maryland Governor Wes Moore joined the show to weigh in. He has called the federal police takeover “disrespectful” and unconstitutional. Additionally, the Governor discussed his recent public spat with President Trump, with the White House hinting at the possibility of sending National Guard troops to Baltimore and potentially clawing back federal funding for rebuilding the Key Bridge.D.C. Police Union Chairman Gregg Pemberton joined the show to explain why he welcomes the federal law enforcement surge in the District, which he says has helped the MPD bring down crime and improve morale among local police. Plus, Pemberton discussed why he believes the D.C. Council should go further and repeal a 2022 police reform act, which limited certain uses of police force and increased police transparency. Congress voted to block certain aspects of the bill. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said this week she appreciates the additional federal resources, and she shared numbers showing violent crime, and specifically carjackings, have decreased significantly in the city since the surge began. However, several D.C. Councilmembers have come out strongly against the federal law enforcement surge. Ward 4 D.C. Join Jim and Greg for the Tuesday edition of the 3 Martini Lunch as they dissect polls showing voters still trust Republicans more on the economy, shudder at Border Czar Tom Homan's concern over major terrorist attacks in the U.S. due to Biden's open borders, and size up the Democrats already dipping their toes into the water for 2028.First, they highlight CNN's Harry Enten reporting that Americans increasingly see Republicans as the party of the middle class and more trustworthy on economic issues. Enten appears frustrated by the trend, but Jim and Greg explain that the shift is no surprise—Democrats keep ignoring inflation, cost-of-living spikes, and pushing radical economic policies voters don't want.Next, they react to dire warnings from Border Czar Tom Homan, who says the Biden administration's border failures have allowed two million “gotaways” into the country—migrants who deliberately avoided processing at the border. Homan warns it's only a matter of time before some of these individuals commit a major terrorist attack inside the U.S.Finally, they joke about the preemptive presidential campaigns begun by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore. In recent appearances in South Carolina, Walz called Trump a "wannabe dictator" and urged supporters to bully Trump. Meanwhile, Gov. Moore inists he's not running for president in 2028 but keeps doing events like this. His record as governor is also not that great. And they also discuss the indecision of Kamala Harris over running for governor of California next year. Please visit our great sponsors:Upgrade your skincare routine with Caldera Lab and see the difference. According to the Associated Press, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore vetoed a bill to create a commission to study slavery reparations, calling it a difficult decision but saying the issue had already been thoroughly examined. The bill was a top priority for the Legislative Black Caucus — the largest such group in the nation. Moore, the state's first Black governor, said it's time to act — not study — by closing the racial wealth gap and supporting Black communities. The veto drew sharp criticism from the caucus, which called it a missed opportunity to address historical harms. The measure passed both chambers with veto-proof majorities. Lawmakers could revisit it in a future session. Moore issued 23 vetoes in total Friday. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Undisputed King of Stuff and Sink the Rising Sun author Jon Gabriel fills in for Jim today. Join Jon and Greg on 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss Maryland reversing its electric vehicle mandate, Democratic attorneys general taking President Trump to court over his executive order on election security, and a federal judge forcing the White House to reopen full access to the Associated Press.First, they applaud Maryland Gov. Wes Moore for walking back the state's EV mandate, which would have required 43 percent of new vehicle sales to be electric starting with 2027 models. Moore pointed to the Trump administration suspending funding for EV charging stations—a program that received $7.5 billion under President Biden and produced only eight chargers nationwide. But Jon and Greg also note that just 13 percent of new car sales in Maryland are EVs, highlighting how many Americans simply don't want them.Next, they criticize the 19 Democratic state attorneys general suing President Trump over his new executive order to strengthen election security, including a requirement to show proof of citizenship to register to vote. While election rules are primarily left to the states and Congress has some oversight, Jon and Greg are stunned by Democrats' continued opposition to even the most basic voter integrity measures—opposition that's likely to flare again soon with the SAVE Act.Finally, they slam on a federal judge's ruling requiring the Trump White House to grant Associated Press reporters access to spaces like the Oval Office and Air Force One. Jon and Greg argue this is not a First Amendment issue and question why a court would be involved with this at all. They also express fatigue with the White House press corps constantly acting the victim every time the White House does something reporters don't like. Please visit our great sponsors:Future-proof business operations with NetSuite by Oracle. In a powerful tribute this Veterans Day, Maryland officially recognized Harriet Tubman for her remarkable contributions during the Civil War, commissioning her as a Brigadier General in the Maryland National Guard this past Monday. The momentous occasion highlights Tubman not only as a leader of the Underground Railroad but a courageous operative for the Union. Born Araminta Ross, Tubman's journey from enslavement to freedom fighter is legendary. After escaping to Philadelphia, she returned to the Eastern Shore multiple times to rescue family and friends. During the war, she served as a nurse, scout, and leader, notably orchestrating a mission that liberated over 700 enslaved individuals along the Combahee River. At the commissioning ceremony near her birthplace, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore praised Tubman as a pioneer of the phrase "leave no one behind," emphasizing her unwavering commitment to freedom and justice. Despite her longstanding contributions, Tubman was only recognized as a veteran. This posthumous promotion corrects this oversight, celebrating a woman who has inspired generations.
