In the marriage of Hosea with Gomer, we see a picture of God's relentless and forgiving love. Hosea is called to marry Gomer, a woman of promiscuity, who will not keep her covenant with Hosea. Yet, Hosea will still pursue her in relentless and forgiving love, just as God has done for Israel, and us.

God's grace and mercy are two sides of the same coin. By His grace He gives us what we don't deserve. By His mercy He withholds what we do deserve. Today, Ron takes us to the book of Hosea, which gives us a beautiful picture of the mercy of God. Time and again the nation of Israel breaks its covenant with God through sin and rebellion. And yet, God says through the prophet Hosea that He will not come against His children in wrath.  

Today, Ron kicks off his journey through the Minor Prophets as he moves ahead in his teaching series, “The Ultimate Road Trip Through The Bible.” We begin with the book of Hosea, where we find two unusual love stories, one between Hosea and his wife, Gomer, the other between God and the nation of Israel.

Hosea: God and His Betrothed People

Who were the “minor prophets” of Israel? Hosea, Amos, Obadiah, Joel, etc. are books that we tend to skip over in our Bibles. However, there is a powerful gospel message throughout the minor prophets. Though people sin and judgement comes, restoration is always available. God continually says to His people, “Return to Me.” In this series we will see how God's love never gives up, never stops, and never ends when it comes to His people.

If you watch the news, you're well aware of the evil in our world. And if you believe the commentators, you might be tempted to think evil is winning. But here is the good news we'll hear in this final study of Hosea: God always wins. So hop aboard the Bible Bus as we hear more about the unfailing love and mercy of our gracious Lord.

God had a message for his people, but instead of giving a statement—God gave a story. Hosea was called to expose and prophecy against Israel's unfaithfulness. Though there was consequence, God demonstrates his character in promising restoration for his people.

In the prophet Hosea God makes a revealing observation of His people.  He says "My people are bent on backsliding".  Knowing that we as humans have this tendency to backslide helps us to realize our need to be proactive in staying spiritually strong.  In this podcast we go into how we as believers can fight back on the plague of compromise.
