Join Pastor Stuart as we begin our new series, Walk This Way, about following Jesus. In our first lesson, we turn to the Apostle John's first letter 2:3-6 to examine . . . "Walking as Jesus Walked". In this lesson, we learn: Jesus is not only the Savior we are to trust; he is the model we are to emulate. This is what it means to “follow Jesus” . . . learning from him and then reflecting him in our actions, attitudes, and words. Reflecting Jesus is not the condition for knowing him; it is the result of knowing and abiding in him. So, by the work of the Spirit, let's grow in reflecting more and more of Jesus. Join Pastor Stuart for the ninth and final lesson in our series, Head Full of Doubt, where we seek to answer the question, "What do we do with doubt?" Today, we turn again to the Gospel According to John 14:1-6, to see that we all need . . . "Jesus: the Way, the Truth, the Life". In this lesson, we learn: Whether we are wrestling with doubt or not, this fact remains: we all need Jesus. Jesus is the only way to have a right relationship with the God who created us. Jesus is the truest truth about God. Jesus is life itself. Knowing and abiding in Jesus is more important than anything else. So let's find our all in Jesus because he is our all. Join Pastor Stuart for the eight lesson in our series, Head Full of Doubt, where we seek to answer the question, "What do we do with doubt?" Today, we turn to the Gospel According to John 20:24-29, to learn about . . . "Confronting and Conquering Our Unbelief". In this lesson, we learn: Jesus can confront and even conquer our unbelief. When true belief is present, we cry out to Jesus, “My Lord and my God!” When we believe in Christ, even without seeing him, we are promised blessing. So, don't succumb to unbelief, but instead believe all that the Scriptures say about Jesus. You can learn more about Westminster Presbyterian Church at https://www.westminsterpca.net. Join Pastor Stuart for the seventh lesson in our series, Head Full of Doubt, where we seek to answer the question, "What do we do with doubt?" Today, we turn to the Gospel According to Mark 9:14-29, to hear a father's cry, . . . "I Believe; Help My Unbelief! ". In this lesson, we learn: Contrary to what we may think, we can experience both belief and unbelief simultaneously. Nevertheless, we are moving toward either deepening faith or distrust. Whatever direction we are moving, we need Jesus. Whenever we sense any unbelief within us, let's cry out to Jesus for the help we need. Join Pastor Stuart for the sixth lesson in our series, Head Full of Doubt, where we seek to answer the question, "What do we do with doubt?" Today, we turn to Psalm 22 to find the psalmist . . . "Asking God 'Why?'". In this lesson, we learn: Asking God “Why?” is not necessarily doubt or sin. The “why” of suspicion questions God's character or wisdom. The “why” of curiosity desires to learn. The “why” of bewildered belief trusts God but admits confusion and ignorance. The “why” of anguish expresses our pain and agony to God. The type of “why” we ask demonstrates what's going on in our heart. No matter what type of “why” is in our heart, it is good for us to bring our questions to God. Working through our questions with God helps lead us from why to worship. We can do all this boldly because of Jesus. So, whatever “whys” we're wrestling with, let's take them to our heavenly Father through Jesus. You can learn more about Westminster Presbyterian Church at https://www.westminsterpca.net. Join Pastor Nathan for the fifth part in our series, Head Full of Doubt, where we seek to answer the question, "What do we do with doubt?" In this lesson, we turn to Psalm 13:1-6 to examine a letter . . . "To the Choirmaster, A Psalm of David". In this lesson, we learn: We must keep our trust and song in Christ. So, let's trust in the Lord and sing with joy the salvation of Jesus. You can learn more about Westminster Presbyterian Church at https://www.westminsterpca.net. Join Pastor Nathan for the next part in our series, Head Full of Doubt, where we seek to answer the question, "What do we do with doubt?" In this fourth lesson, we turn to Matthew 11:1-6 to answer the question, what do we do . . . "When Our Expectations Lead to Doubt". In this lesson, we learn: Jesus is always greater than our expectations. So, let's look at what Christ has done, and is doing, and set our hopes upon Him. Join Pastor Stuart as for the third lesson in our series, Head Full of Doubt, where we seek to answer the question, "What do we do with doubt?" In this lesson, we turn to Jude 20-23 to hear about . . . "Mercy to Those Who Doubt". In this lesson, we learn: Because God has shown us mercy in Christ Jesus, we show mercy . . . even to those who doubt. We show mercy to people who doubt in several ways: We don't judge or condemn them. We show kindness, compassion, and care. We listen. We help them process their doubts. We encourage them not to give up on Jesus. So, by the work of the Spirit, let's grow in showing the mercy of Christ to those who doubt. In this second lesson, we turn to James 1:5-8 to hear about . . . "The Heart of Doubt". In this lesson, we learn: The heart of doubt is uncertainty. Doubt wavers between belief and unbelief which leads us to be double-minded. A divided mind lacks stability. Jesus is the answer to our uncertain and double-minded instability. So, let's keep going to Jesus to increase our faith. You can learn more about Westminster Presbyterian Church at https://www.westminsterpca.net. In our first lesson, we turn to Genesis 17:1-8, 15-19 and Matthew 28:1-10, 16-17 to see that . . . "Doubt is Universal". In this lesson, we learn: Everyone wrestles with doubt. Because of the prevalence of doubt: We need not be afraid to express our doubts to Jesus. We can share our doubts with each other to receive encouragement and help. So, let's be honest about our doubts knowing that Jesus is able to alleviate them. You can learn more about Westminster Presbyterian Church at https://www.westminsterpca.net. In our last lesson, we turn to the Gospel According to Luke 14:12-24 to hear the Good News of . . . "Responding to God's Invitation". In this lesson, we learn: The invitation of God in Christ necessitates our response. We dare not take God's invitation for granted. Responding positively to God's invitation entails at least two things: Trusting Jesus. Compelling others to join the kingdom feast. So, let's joyfully accept God's invitation in Christ and urge others to do the same. You can learn more about Westminster Presbyterian Church at https://www.westminsterpca.net. In this lesson, we turn to the Gospel According to Luke 15:1-10 to hear the Good News of . . . "The Seeking and Celebrating God". In this lesson, we learn: The parable of the lost sheep and coin tell us important truths about what God is like. God is the diligent seeker of people who are “lost.” God celebrates when a sinner repents. These two truths sum up the ministry of Jesus. They should also sum up the ministry of his church. So, let's all realize the good and gracious character of God the Father, keep coming to Jesus, and grow in reflecting him by the work of the Spirit. In our 4th lesson, we turn to the Apostle John's First Letter 2:1-2 to hear the Good News for people . . . "All Over the World". In this lesson, we learn: The good news about Jesus is for people all over the world. Jesus is a righteous advocate for any sinner who trusts in him. He also satisfies God's just judgment against our sin. Two “take aways” from these truths for those who follow Jesus: We resist the pull of tribalistic and xenophobic tendencies. We indiscriminately spread the good news far and wide. So, let's find great comfort and joy in Jesus and share his good news with others. In this lesson, we learn: The reason Jesus came into the world was to save sinners. The apostle Paul is an example to us all of how God is able to save even the worst of sinners. Mary Bush, Freeman Hrabowski, and Condoleezza Rice grew up and were classmates together in segregated Birmingham, Alabama, in the late 1950s and early '60s. After taking a brief visit with Rice to her childhood home, we gather them again for a second conversation in Birmingham's Westminster Presbyterian Church, where Rice's father was pastor during that period. In this second part of our interview, the three lifelong friends further recount what life was like for Blacks in Jim Crow Alabama and the deep bonds that formed in the Black community at the time in order to support one another and to give the children a good education. They discuss how they overcame the structural racism they experienced as children to achieve incredible successes as adults. Lastly, they discuss their views on the recent reckoning with racism in today's culture and weigh in on the 1619 Project and other social programs.
Mary Bush, Freeman Hrabowski, and Condoleezza Rice grew up and were classmates together in segregated Birmingham, Alabama, in the late 1950s and early '60s. We reunited them for a conversation in Birmingham's Westminster Presbyterian Church, where Rice's father was pastor during that period. The three lifelong friends recount what life was like for Blacks in Jim Crow Alabama and the deep bonds that formed in the Black community at the time in order to support one another and to give the children a good education. They also recall the events they saw—and in some cases participated in—during the spring, summer, and fall of 1963, when Birmingham was racked with racial violence, witnessed marches and protests led by Dr. Martin Luther King, and was shocked by the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church. The latter event resulted in the deaths of four little girls, whom all three knew. The show concludes with a visit to a statue of Martin Luther King Jr. erected in Kelly Ingram Park—where in 1963 Birmingham's commissioner for public safety Bull Connor ordered that fire hoses and attack dogs be used on protestors. There, Condoleezza Rice discusses Dr. King's legacy and his impact on her life.
