This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

This week, we were blessed to have guest preacher Mike Kwiatkowski from Mercy Hill Church with us as he taught from Ephesians 5:1–2. Mike challenged us to imitate God by walking in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. We were reminded that the Christian life is not simply about knowing the truth, but about reflecting the character of Christ in the way we live and love others. This passage calls us to follow Jesus' example of sacrificial love every day.Text: Ephesians 5:1–2 Recorded: June 7, 2026
My wife and I could not understand why our two year old son was hitting his face with his toy phone. As new parents we felt this was not normal. It was a few days later that my wife determined it was my fault that our son was hitting his face. As Lisa observed me speaking on the phone she noticed how…
How we walk and how we love makes a difference!
Today Pastor Ricky will be focusing his attention on exhorting the leaders of the church. If you're looked at as a type of leader or role model, or any type of deacon or pastor, you're held at a higher accountability before God. The Bible teaches that you're to live a life that is above reproach so that no one can have an evil thing to say about you. Is this true about your life today? What do you need to change and repent of in order to have that reflection of Christ in you? Imitate God as dear children.

We are being transformed, not just improved, not just reformed. The scripture says we are being transformed. We are being made new. We are being transformed into his image. In lifestyle and character, we are to be in the image of Jesus. This is why Ephesians 5:1 says we are to “imitate God in everything we do because we are his dear children.”Main Points:1. Without realizing it, every day, we who believe in Jesus are leaving an impression of Him on others. Not with brushes and paint, but with attitudes, actions, and relationships.2. All of us are being transformed. We are not yet complete. We are not like Jesus in every area of our lives. We are in process. We are not who we used to be, and we are not yet who we are going to be.3. If we want to be like Jesus, we must spend time with Him. How else can we discover what He is like? In what other way could we learn his character? There is no other way. Today's Scripture Verses:Ephesians 5:1-2 - “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 - “We all . . . are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”John 15:4 - “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
Remember God loves you so much he sent his Son Jesus Christ to take the punishment for your sins. You are of great value. Jesus loves you and He is just a prayer away!
Pastor Timothy Paul Jones preaches from Ephesians 5:1-14 on October 19, 2025.
Children naturally imitate those they love and trust. In our daily prayer and devotional, we remember how they learn by watching, copying, and repeating what they see. In the same way, God calls His children to imitate Him—to reflect His love, compassion, and holiness in our daily lives. Emily Rose Massey reminds us that just as parents model godly character for their children, we are called to model our lives after Christ. Jesus’ life was the ultimate picture of selfless love—He “gave Himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Imitating Him means walking in humility, extending grace to others, and choosing love even when it costs us something. Imitating Christ also means learning from the examples of faithful believers who have gone before us—like Paul, who urged the early Church to follow his example as he followed Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). Paul’s life was marked by joy in suffering and unwavering trust in God. He modeled what it looks like to prioritize God’s glory over comfort and ease. As we spend time in God’s Word, abide in His presence, and walk alongside other believers, we are shaped into His likeness little by little. This lifelong process of imitation transforms us from the inside out, teaching us to love sacrificially and live for the glory of God rather than for ourselves. Today's Bible Reading: "Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." – Ephesians 5:1-2, ESV Key Takeaways We are called to imitate God by walking in love, just as Christ loved and sacrificed for us. True imitation begins with abiding in Christ and being transformed by His Spirit. Surround yourself with mentors and believers who model Christlike living. Every act of selfless love becomes a fragrant offering of worship to God. Let’s Pray Together Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me and calling me to walk in Your love. Help me to imitate Christ in every area of my life—my words, actions, and thoughts. Strengthen me to live with humility, grace, and boldness for Your glory. Surround me with believers who encourage me to walk faithfully and remind me to fix my eyes on Jesus, the perfect example of love and obedience. In His name I pray, Amen. Because we are God's beloved children in Christ, we are called to walk in His self giving love and put away every counterfeit love that distorts the gospel and destroys community.
Moving beyond just learning about Jesus to actually living like Him is the essential progression of our Christian journey. In this episode of The Drive, Pastors Spencer and Bob discuss what it truly means to be an imitator of Christ, as commanded in Ephesians 5:1-2.Imitating Christ requires a death—the death of our old nature and self-will, not physical death. Romans 12:1-2 calls us to present our bodies as a "living sacrifice". By destroying the "old man," our lives become a sweet-smelling aroma to God. The Bible describes God as holy, just, and loving, and as His children, we are commanded to imitate these characteristics.Pastor Spencer and Bob examine how Christians can partner with God to live a holy life. This partnership involves meditating on God's Word to renew your mind and replace destructive thoughts with things that are true, noble, and pure. Living a holy life is the most important thing a Christian can do. It becomes a powerful testimony for Jesus and an example for the world to see.Key Takeaways:Imitate God's Character: We are commanded to be imitators of God, developing His character traits of purity, holiness, justice, and love.A Living Sacrifice: We are called to be a living sacrifice, putting our own will and former sinful nature to death. This daily sacrifice is a "sweet-smelling aroma" to God.Holiness and Reverence: A casual approach to faith is a sign of lost reverence for God's holiness. Scripture shows us that no one can see God's face and live, underscoring His immense power and purity.Partnership with God: We partner with God in our sanctification by meditating on His Word, allowing it to renew our minds and shape our thoughts, words, actions, and character. The Power of Prayer: Prayer is a crucial part of our Christian walk and a "sweet-smelling aroma" to God.Catch the Full sermon here:https://-NWZVV4.subspla.sh/f52px5qRead the Full Blog and application steps here:https://christianfellowshiploslunas.org/blog/2025/08/18/a-walk-to-remember-living-out-our-transformation-in-christChristian Fellowship Church is a discipleship-focused community in Los Lunas, New Mexico. It is said that imitation is the greatest form of flattery. As believers we are called to imitate Christ Jesus and live the way that he lived. What does that practically look like in our lives? What does it mean to shine our light? Let's talk about it!
Imitate God, not the world. This simple message carries a profound meaning. Paul talks about all the things that have no place in our lives, but how do we know we have sinned? To shine light on our sins can only be done by knowing God. Join Nate Schaidt as he guides us through this passage and explains what Paul is saying in Ephesians 5:1-14.Support the show

Obeying Christ's commands springs from his power and love in making us new people. The new life he has won for us gives us hope in fulfilling the call to imitate God to one another in our love, our kindness, and forgiveness.
Put Off the Old Self (Eph 4:17-19) Paul warns believers not to live like the Gentiles, whose thinking is futile and whose hearts are hardened. Their lifestyle is marked by having a darkened understanding, ignorance, insensitivity, and moral corruption that is driven by selfish desires. Be Renewed and Put on the New Self (Eph 4:20-24) Paul claims that the old way of life is not how believers have learned Christ. Rather believers are to: Put off the old self (i.e. the former way of life). Be renewed in the spirit of their minds. Put on the new self (i.e. new way of life in righteousness and holiness). Practical Instructions for New Life (Eph 4:25-32) Paul lists specific ways to live out this new self: Speak truthfully instead of lying. Control your anger and deal with it promptly. Do honest work so you can help others. Speak words that build up, not corrupt speech. Avoid bitterness, rage, slander, and malice. Be kind, compassionate, and forgiving, just as God forgave you in Christ. Imitate God and Walk in Love (Eph 5:1-2) Believers are called to be imitators of God as His children. We should walk in love, following the example of Christ, who gave himself as a sacrificial offering for us.The post Ephesians Part 8: The New You first appeared on Living Hope.

On Sunday, Pastor Eric continued the series of Live Above the Noise with a talk titled “Imitating Greatness”. Paul makes this statement in Eph. 5:1 Imitate God as dear children. Take a moment and think about the gravity of this command. In one of Paul's other letters he says “Imitate me as I imitate God”. However in this letter he raises the bar. One thing children are great at is imitation. Imitation is one of the quickest ways to develop, learn social skills, and grow in confidence. It is normal and natural to imitate someone you admire. In this letter Paul is drawing the attention of the readers to choose to imitate God. Let's remember following God is not only for the purposes of admiration and observation, it's a decision to move in the direction of God. When we imitate Him we are choosing to learn who He is, how He thinks and what is pleasing to Him. This is the essence of spiritual formation. So this week, take a moment and dwell on this idea of Imitating God and seek to find out what is acceptable and pleasing to him. Let's make it our goal to be a people who Imitate Greatness. For more info, you can go to our website, check us out on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. Message for 09/22/2024 "When People Wrong You" by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted* Genesis 1:27-28 - So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Matthew 18:15-35 - “If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back. 16 But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses. 17 If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won't accept the church's decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector. 18 “I tell you the truth, whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven. 19 “I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. 20 For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.” Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” 22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! 23 “Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. 24 In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars.25 He couldn't pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. 26 “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.' 27 Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt. 28 “But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment. 29 “His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it,' he pleaded. 30 But his creditor wouldn't wait. He had the man arrested and put in prison until the debt could be paid in full. 31 “When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened. 32 Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me.33 Shouldn't you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?' 34 Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt. 35 “That's what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.” VALUE 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 - This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ's ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. RESPONSIBILITY Matthew 18:15 - If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. Ephesians 5:1-2 - Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Ephesians 5:6-8 - When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. PURPOSE Matthew 18:15 - If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back OUT Matthew 6:12 - and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. Matthew 6:14-15 - If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. 1 Timothy 1:15 - This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. If my sinfulness appears to me to be in any way smaller or less detestable in comparison with the sins of others, I am still not recognizing my sinfulness at all. - Bonhoeffer
