I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 13th of August, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to Ephesians 5:8:For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. We have got to walk the talk. It's not just about talking but its about being. Now I heard a beautiful story about the first President of the United States of America, George Washington. He was a farmer and he was very successful. He was then called by the people to stand against the mighty British army, and eventually they had the War of Independence, where the Americans defeated the British and there was great celebration, and they loved George Washington. In fact, they wanted him to become the first King of America, but he declined, he said no. He wanted to go back to the farm and pursue his love for farming but there was a lot of arguing amongst the leaders of America after the war, and he was very upset about it. He called a meeting with all the top leaders of America together in one room, and he had painstakingly written out a speech that he wanted to present to them to get them to pull together. He read the speech out but there wasn't too much of a response. He could see that the men were still arguing about who was going to have what and who was going to take authority in which area. Then the story goes like this - George Washington, who was about 51 years old, reached into his pocket and pulled out a pair of wire-ringed glasses. He put them on and said, “This war has made my hair turn grey, and now I am even going blind”, and then he read the note. That doing, that being, impacted those men more than anything else. Some of them started to weep openly when they saw what the War of Independence had cost this man, and they pulled into line, and he became the first President of the United States of America and served two terms in office before he returned back to his farm. Today, remember it's not really so much what you say, its not really so much what we do but its rather who we are which makes the difference.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.

While Ephesians 1-3 is concerned with all the believer has been given through salvation in Christ, chapters 4-6 are concerned with how the believer should walk responsibly in the newness of life. In Ephesians 5:5-21, the emphasis is for the believer to walk as children of light who no longer adhere to the way of sin, but opposes and exposes sin and the darkness of life without Christ.

Have you ever gone hiking and run out of daylight? The last place you want to be is in the darkness where you can't see the path anymore. In today's passage, Jesus reminds us of how important this is in a spiritual sense: to walk in the light while you have the light.

John 8:12: "Jesus said: “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” *(1) Jesus is the Light of the World. "He (Jesus) is the true Light which, coming into the world, gives light to every man" (John 1:9). "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it" (John 1:4-5). *(2) Whoever follows Him will not walk in Darkness. "We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one" (1John 5:19). "For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people" (Isaiah 60:2). “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going” (John 12:35). "He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His Name's sake" (Psalm 23:3). "The path of the just is like the shining sun[light], that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble" (Proverbs 4:18-19). *(3) Followers of Jesus Christ shall have the Light of Life. The Person is Life and the Life is Light. "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men" (John 1:4). "God is light and in Him is no darkness at all' (1John 1:5). "For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" (2Corinthians 4:6). "Your sun shall no longer go down, nor shall your moon withdraw itself; for the Lord will be your everlasting light. And the days of your mourning shall be ended" (Isaiah 60:20). "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall If ear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1). "For He Himself has said: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

God has made it possible to come clean and receive forgiveness. He loves us so much that He sent His son to die for our sins so that we wouldn't have to die in our sins. With that great truth in mind, why wouldn't we be willing to simply receive forgiveness.... and forgive others? To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/621/29
Often we prefer hiding over being seen due to feelings of shame and guilt about our story. When this is coupled with a lack of courage and hope in others it can keep us in the same hidden ruts —even if we want to change. Still, our hearts ache to be seen. How can we find the faith to walk in the light of Christ and let ourselves be seen? Listen in as we chart a path into the light.
