Jesus grew in wisdom and knowledge as a child into manhood. His heavenly Father taught Him, night and day. He knew how to speak to the weary, but also the haughty, see the Gospels. God calls us to faithfulness, as He did them.
Micah 4 speaks of the latter days, and other prophecies. But in chapter 5 the prophet specifies by name the town where the future King will be born. In Matt 2 and John 7 we learn many people were expecting Messiah to come from this small unimportant town called Bethlehem. He will bring peace with God and peace within the Kingdom. Is it wrong to celebrate Christmas? Key Verse: Hebrews 1:6
Christmas is a celebration of The Nativity Story: God’s personal appearance to mankind through the miraculous birth of Jesus — and all under the most-humble of circumstances. The King of Kings was born in a stable among common farm animals because there was no room for him in the inn. For Christ-followers it’s a familiar scene that brings comfort, peace and joy. While there’s no shortage of stories about the deities in manmade religions, the unique circumstances and impact of Jesus’ narrative stands alone. The way He arrives, lives, leads, and loves sets Him apart as the One who’s name is above all others. Jesus is unique. And He’s worthy of our worship and trust as our Savior and Lord. That’s what we’re discussing at Velocity in our sermon series called Unique Jesus. Let’s discuss it together at 10:00 this Sunday morning in person or online at VelocityChurch.info.
In today's Bible-based mindful morning podcast, we see the birth of Jesus. God did not proclaim his birth to kings or rulers, but to humble shepherds, a fitting group considering Jesus' humble birth. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/start-with-scripture/support
The Way of Jesus is the pattern of discipleship that is aligned with his Kingdom and empowered by his Spirit. The Way of Jesus is his lifestyle, priorities, habits, and power—all of which he has shared with us. The way of Jesus is learning how to be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did.
Is it possible to be surprised all over again by the story of Jesus' birth? Believe it or not, yes! Sure, it's just September, but we're taking things in order as we walk through the Gospel of Luke to discover the extraordinary again in Jesus' life, ministry, and teachings. Based on material in Tom Gilson's book Too Good to be False: How Jesus' Incomparable Character Reveals His Reality, available here. As noted in the podcast, others who've read it have had their lives lit up for Christ. Subscribe to this podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, or Stitcher. How can we ever hope to relate to a God as great as our God? I've asked myself that question and found my hope in Jesus, who came to be one of us. He himself, the hope of Israel, the hope of all the nations, is extraordinary beyond any hope of matching his character. Yet he came in humility, the man who was God, God who became man. In today's Thinking Christian podcast I explore the great things said about him at the time of his birth, by Mary, Zechariah, the angels, and Simeon, as recorded in the first chapters in Luke. They expected him to be extraordinary — and thus his story begins.
