Jade McInally is the singer, songwriter and guitarist with four piece Australian band, Jade Imagine. The band made a real impression on ‘I Wish I Wrote That Song’ presenter Keith Wyatt when they supported Julia Jacklin on tour in the UK, towards the end of 2018. We talked to Jade about her new EP, ‘You Remind Me Of Something I Lost’, covering the Tiny Ruins song ‘Dream Wave’ for the Milk On Milk album and of course, the song she wish she wrote, a song by Sibylle Baier released in 2006, almost 30 years after it was originally recorded.. The new EP was the follow-up to the critically acclaimed ‘Basic Love’ album released in 2019. As with all of their releases to date, the EP was produced by band member, Tim Harvey. Enjoy listening! Keith Wyatt looks over a remarkable career as a blues/rock guitarist, composer and educator. Keith was in the the second class of GIT and went on to spend over 30 years there as a member of the teaching facility. Over that time he was a key player in the development of video-based teaching - his recollections of working on Yngwie Malmsteen's first REH video are hilarious - and curriculum at GIT. Keith talks of playing with his heroes - Albert Collins, Mick Taylor and Jack Bruce - and an ill fated run of gigs with an unpredictable Ginger Baker. Keith has been a long time member of the iconic band, The Blasters and is now running Artist Works Online School of Blues Guitar. Keith Wyatt discusses his books, DVDs, touring with the Blasters, and his gear, as well as elusive subjects such as ear training. This segment includes lots of examples of Keith’s playing.
With more audio excerpts from the Blasters, Keith Wyatt talks about his BOSS pedals and classic effects such as tremolo and slap delay. Keith also discusses teaching at MI and practicing along with metronomes and drum machines.
Keith Wyatt explores the Memphis sound from the axe of Steve Cropper, who was the guitarist for Booker T and the MGs. First, he fleshes out the rhythm part of the classic Green Onions' by adapting the keyboard counter melody to go along with the bass line. Then, on Fig. 2, it's time for nasty, grits-and-gravy funk, working a bass line with syncopated chord figures. Relax your right arm, Keith encourages, and go for the pure soul.
