Cohen Crispin is the QRL Sport science coordinator and former strength and conditioning coach within Surfing Australia's high-performance program. Cohen is an ASCA Elite L3 elite coach and holds a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science. In addition to his commitments in surfing, Cohen is also an assistant strength and conditioning coach and sports scientist for the Queensland women's State of Origin team. With a multifaceted background, Cohen is dedicated to optimising athlete performance and giving back to the S&C industry. QUOTES “My footy coach at the time, Frank Baker, was Dan Baker's brother and he was talking to me one afternoon about what I wanted to do after school and he started telling me about what his brother did, working at the Broncos, strength and power coach. And I was like, is this a job?!” “So when I started at sprint kayaking, Worko gave me the opportunity to write a program for Kenny Wallace. And I remember I spent all night and I was reading all the research and then I've delivered it to him and he's gone, no, I don't do those exercises. So I've walked away from it, just defeated! And Worko has gone to me, did you talk to him before you wrote that program or did you just go to the theory? So that was a perfect lens for why the practical experience was so important.” “So it really makes our job about the need for engagement with the athletes. Engagement's our biggest currency and that engagement allows us to educate them and then a lot of our job is educating and giving these athletes all the tools that they need to be successful wherever they are, whether they're local or they're on the other side of the world.” “I've found that athletes that are proficient in the counter movement jump, have the ability to generate more speed and are getting good scores in smaller waves” “Whenever I'm writing programs, I'm always thinking what's the best exercise for the athlete, or what's the exercise that I can easily implement into their travel program. So we'll have a Monday, Wednesday strength and power session planned at the gym but if that doesn't work out, they'll then go to their body weight sessions that could easily be done in a hotel room using their bags and bands.” SHOWNOTES 1) Cohen's journey from becoming a sparky in a small QLD mining town to a strength & conditioning coach for Surfing Australia 2) The balance between practical and theoretical experience in learning the S&C craft 3) Understanding surfing as a sport and the role strength & conditioning has to play in a surfers development 4) The nature of working with surfers and the industry and the importance of athlete engagement and education in surfing 5) The key strength & conditioning focuses for performance in surfing and how this may be manipulated based on different wave profiles 6) The importance of paddle speed and conditioning for surfers and key tests and test standards for surfing athletes 7) Why having a plan A, plan B and plan C in S&C programming is essential for surfers and the programming template at Surfing Australia PEOPLE MENTIONED Dan Baker Deb Savage John Mitchell Glen Workman Ken Wallace Nick Winkleman

Join us for an inspiring conversation with singer-songwriter and guitarist Patti Spadaro. Patti shares her journey from the iconic clubs of Los Angeles to her current roots in Pennsylvania, discussing her music, teaching, and passion for empowerment. We delve into her latest single, "Glass Shatters," and explore how her soulful blend of rock, blues, and jam-band styles creates a space for connection and transformation.PATTI SPADARO brings a hopeful outlook to her introspective and heartfelt songwriting. Her guitar style has a soulful, fluid, jam-band feel. She loves to improvise, stretch out during live shows, and reach for musical magic. "Its all about the music and making a connection", says Patti, "bringing people together, letting loose, and being in the here and now". Her band's live shows create a space where the music opens up into something huge... the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The music cuts through the everyday and connects right to the core. While living in Los Angeles, Patti released 3 albums and played LA's iconic clubs. She toured up and down the west coast & throughout the southwestern US. Her roots called Patti back to PA to raise a family. She has two daughters, released 2 more albums, and is continuing to record and perform. Society has come a long way, but there is still plenty of progress to be made.” Glass Shatters features Pittsburgh musicians and singers: Patti Spadaro (guitar/vocals), Anne Celedonia (keys/vocals), Cherylann Hawk, Jill Simmons & Alison McTavish (backing vocals), Eric Kurtzrock (drummer/recording engineer), and Ryan Black (bass).THE PATTI SPADARO BAND weave organic grooves with catchy original tunes and spur-of-the moment jamming. "I like to combine improvisation with good solid song writing" says Patti. "I love to get people up and dancing. Music can open minds and inspire, it can bring people together, even make a difference in the world. It's also a whole lot of fun." BRINGING ME BACK features drummers Eric Kurtzrock & Jim Donovan (Rusted Root), keyboardist Skip Sanders (The Clarks, Bill Deasy), and Jill Simmons singing harmony (Brown Eyed Women). The album features impressive musicianship and songs that reach deep. Songs about discovering what matters most. Standing up and living life from that place. A place of integrity and love; freedom, joy and passion. WOMEN ON TOP - add Jill Simmons, Cherylann Hawk, Alison McTavish and Andrea Pearl's lead vocals and beautiful harmonies to the mix. Dan Baker is a UK based photographer specialising in seaside photos, although specialising doesn't really cover it. Dan doesn't just specialise. He set himself the challenge of shooting a single 100m stretch of beach front in his home town. This hyper specifc focus has produced beautiful colour imagery that's rich, playful and often features a dropped ice cream cone. I love his work we had a great conversation about three very similar lenses, but then that's very Dan, he has found great variety and depth over several years in a place most photographers would feel they've explored in an afternoon.Sign up to the Prime Lenses newsletter for a mid week treat.More about this show:A camera is just a tool but spend enough time with photographers and you'll see them go misty eyed when they talk about their first camera or a small fast prime that they had in their youth. Prime Lenses is a series of interviews with photographers talking about their photography by way of three lenses that mean a lot to them. These can be interchangeable, attached to a camera, integrated into a gadget, I'm interested in the sometimes complex relationship we have with the tools we choose, why they can mean so much and how they make us feel.

In today's podcast I talk with Dan Baker, whose wife suddenly died on the day he retired from his career in law enforcement. As with all of my podcast participants, Dan's experiences were powerful and unique. Having an extensive background in law enforcement, Dan provides us with valuable insight about what happens during the investigative process. He also invites us into to the difficult thoughts and emotions that he struggled with and continues to revisit three years after his wife's death. I am so grateful he shared his perspective on the ins and outs of spousal grief support groups and the lasting relationships that can develop. The love Dan continues to have for his wife Cathy remains present and palpable. Key Points: During our interview we explore Dan's struggle to cope with two major life stressors; the death of a spouse and retirement at the same time, and the impact it had on his identity. We examine what it was like for Dan to live with the unanswered questions and uncertainty after his wife died. Dan shares the experiences he had participating in a spousal grief group to help him cope and process his wife's death and how he developed strong bonds and intimate friendships with a subgroup of members that he now considers to be part of his family. If you would like to reach out to Dan, please join our Facebook group – Talking About the Podcast Untethered with Dr. Levin.
In this fifth episode, we celebrate Dan Baker, President and CEO of the National Peace Corps Association. Nominated by Marv Leroy for embodying the Peace Corps' mission—to foster understanding between Americans and other cultures—Dan has dedicated his life post-Davidson College to international service. The Peace Corps has seen over 200,000 volunteers since 1961 serve in 139 countries; they've learned languages and shared American values worldwide. Dan shares how a chance encounter with a returned volunteer from Mali shifted his trajectory towards the Peace Corps instead of corporate America or law school. His journey began as an education volunteer in Bolivia in 1999 and evolved into various roles within the organization over two decades. He reflects on technological advancements that transformed communication for volunteers abroad and discusses how Peace Corps initiatives have influenced global aid approaches through grassroots collaboration. The National Peace Corps Association now champions expansion efforts while supporting returnees with career development needs or those recovering from service-related trauma. Dan emphasizes that despite changing times, volunteers' spirit remains driven by altruism, adventure, and sacrifice. For young people considering joining today's Peace Corps: it's not for everyone but can be incredibly rewarding if you're up for challenging yourself beyond your perceived limits. To support the National Peace Corps Association—one needn't be a former volunteer—membership is free though contributions keep them thriving. Their work underscores peace-building both internationally and domestically through ongoing community engagement efforts across America. Closing out our dialogue with gratitude towards Dan Baker—a true north star—we invite listeners interested in nominating exceptional nonprofit leaders to visit our website. Join us next time on Nominate Your Nonprofit North Star podcast where stories like Dan's continue to inspire action toward making a difference globally.

“Appreciation is the highest, purest form of love.“ In this episode I talk about another chapter in the book, What Happy People Know by Dr. Dan Baker, Ph.D and Cameron Stauth. I begin by mentioning my favorite scripture and then I discuss courage as a tool for happiness and that love in what gets us to courage. I share about the purest form of love or appreciation and how that can be an antidote to fear in our lives. I share things from the chapter, like the appreciation audit which Dr. Baker tells us it can help heal us with good thoughts. So if you battle fear and want the courage to do more, maybe this idea of appreciation might help. (00:00-41:08) On today's Midday Show, Andrew wants to analyze the mindset of the athlete vs the mindset of the fan. How do we the fan view things opposed to the athlete? Where would the middle ground be? We tend to hold athletes (in this city) to a certain standard. Andrew discusses this topic with Connor. They then get into a conversation about the Eagles, specifically Jalen Hurts. Jalen talks about what we have all been talking about; his play through two weeks. Hurts expresses that winning is what matters most. The guys also talks about a horrible gift the Oakland Athletics presented to Miguel Cabrera. (41:09-52:00) Connor cracks open the vault and brings you some great audio memories. He wishes Tommy Lasorda, Dan Baker, and Harold Carmichael a Happy Birthday. He also brings you some Willie Mays audio. (52:07-1:36:01) Andrew and Connor continue the talk about the athlete and the fan. They also discuss James Harden; Cowboys injures and Phillies before heading back to the phones. (1:36:08-1:59:02) Andrew was freaked out recently when he saw some lights in the sky in a vertical line. It turns out it was Starlink which is a low flying satellite constellation that provides wi-fi. Andrew didn't know that at the time and thought we were near the end. A member of Space Force calls and explains it all to Andrew. He is fascinated now. Tyrone even joins in the conversation. (1:59:09-2:22:18) Andrew talks a little more about Starlink but heads back to the phones to try and get back on track with the sports talk. They get back into some Eagles and Phillies talk. (2:22:25-2:51:03) Andrew and Connor make their NFL Week 3 picks. They also talk about how Chris “Mad Dog” Russo described how his Saturday will look this week.

This week, I had the pleasure of speaking with supporters of incarcerated anarchist and antifascist, Dan Baker about the case and the support fundraiser. In the conversation, Dan's friend Eric and Dan's partner Pinky are joined by the main person behind Mongoose distro talks about publishing radical prisoner while 2 members of Orange County Anarchist Black Cross (Big Cartel shop) talk about the ABC Federation War Chest, the upcoming Pushing Down The Walls (Instagram) burpee challenge and the efforts of indigenous anarchist prisoner Oso Blanco to support indigenous children's education and the book of poetry and short fiction he recently co-authored entitled The Blue Agave Revolution: Poetry of the Blind Rebel. **Just a headsup, after the interview took place, Daniel Baker started using they/them pronouns, so during this conversation we're using the incorrect pronouns.** By the time you hear this interview, we're hoping Dan will have been released from prison. Dan has sorted out housing for their release into Florida but you can help with getting him on their feet by donating at Fundraizr.com/DanBaker2023 Announcement Phone & Email Zap for Rashid But quick a short message from supporters of political prisoner, Kevin Rashid Johnson of the Revolutionary Intercommunalist Black Panther Party whose struggle with cancer we spoke about in our December 11, 2022 episode and interviewed a few years earlier: We learned yesterday that the prison administration at Sussex 1 suddenly stopped taking Rashid for the radiation treatments for the prostate cancer he is suffering and threw him in the hole, with none of his belongings, very uncomfortable. Their excuse? A guard accuses him of transporting drugs into the prison in the prison vehicle transporting him between the prison and the hospital where he has been receiving the treatments. This is definitely not something Rashid does! Remember, Rashid was forced to wait over a year between diagnosis and beginning of treatment, and now, it appears that treatment is being interrupted. His comrade reports: "He is in Administrative Segregation, following a treatment visit at the hospital. This is something [the radiation treatments] that he has been doing for some time now. He states that he has about 2 weeks of treatment left & he thinks that they are trying to disrupt the treatment. He has no property in the cell, It's stripped bare, no blanket, sheets, nor mattress. The toilet is not working, no running water. The pigs had been acting strange since last week , constantly surveilling him , even while in then BR. The report they got that they trashed his cell & were gathering all of his property while he was away for his treatment. He thinks it is a set up. He thinks there should be a phone & email zap.” Here are people to contact to complain about this treatment. Please call and email these authorities—more than once. Hello, and welcome to Beauty and the Biz where we talk about the business and marketing side of plastic surgery, and how to perform 3k lip lifts plus 300 facelifts per year. I'm your host, Catherine Maley, author of Your Aesthetic Practice – What your patients are saying, as well as consultant to plastic surgeons, to get them more patients, more profits and stellar reputations. Now, today's episode is called "3k Lip Lifts Plus 300 Facelifts Per Year — with Benjamin Talei, MD". One way to differentiate yourself in the marketplace is to work harder than everyone else, which is what enables Dr. Talei to perform 3k lip lifts plus 300 facelifts per year. That doesn't guarantee your success, but it certainly gives you a leg up over your competitors. That's what my next Beauty and the Biz Podcast guest did. Ben Talei, MD, facial plastic surgeon set up shop in Beverly Hills and went to work. For 6 years, Dr. Talei worked 16-hour days, 7 days per week honing his surgical skills and making a name for himself…. …until he had a medial scare and had to slow down. Now Dr. Talei “only” works 12-hour days, 4 days per week providing some of the best results seldom seen. He continues to perfect his techniques and do what others don't, won't or can't. And he uses social media and his before/after photos to set himself apart from everyone else and build a demand he struggles to keep up with. Here are some things we talked about: How he gets photo approval from his private patients How he gets results that others don't Tips for marketing to build up a huge demand and much more Visit Dr. Talei's website P.S. Please review!

This week on The Final Straw, we feature three segments: words from a friend of Manuel “Tortuguita” Teran, the forest defender killed by law enforcement on January 18th outside of Atlanta, Georgia; A-Radio Berlin's conversation with an activist at Lutzerath encampment in western Germany attempting to block a lignite coal extraction operation by RWE; a discussion of the Tren Maya megaproject by the AMLO administration in Mexico. Remembering Tortuguita First up, we caught up with Eric Champaign of Tallahassee, FL, about his friend Manny, aka Tortuguita or little turtle. Manuel Teran was shot and killed by law enforcement during an early morning raid of the forest encampment to defend the Welaunee aka Atlanta Forest and to stop CopCity on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023. Law enforcement claimed in the media that they responded to shots fired and the wounding of an officer by killing the shooter, but at the time of this release the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has not yet produced a weapon or bodycam footage of the clash. [Update, Georgia Bureau of Investigation claims they found Tort's gun and ballistics match the bullet in the pelvis of the cop] The killing of Tortuguita has sparked outrage, calls for independent investigations, vigils and calls for renewed and dispersed activity. Word is that another 6 people were arrested and charged with domestic terrorism during the raid. Check out our chat with a member of Atlanta Anti-Repression Committee for some context and links to group fighting back in the courts. There's a fundraiser for Tortuguita's family at GoFundMe Eric also speaks about his friend, Dan Baker, who is nearing his release date. You can hear our past chat with Eric about Dan's case at our website alongside links about the case and how to support him. There's now a paypal for donations for Dan's post-release, which can be found at DanielBakerDonations@gmail.com Then, we feature two segments are selections from the January, 2023 episode of B(A)D News from the A-Radio Network. You can find this ep, #64, alongside many others at A-Radio-Network.Org Updates from Lützerath This second segment is a recording by A-Radio Berlin of a conversation with a radio activist from Aalpunk from Lützerath giving some context of the struggle there in the west of Germany. Since this recording, the encampments have been evicted but resistance continues against the ginormous lignite mine that the corporation RWE is attempting to expand there. You can also hear or read our September 25th, 2022 episode for some background. More info at https://luetzerathlebt.info/en Opposing Project Tren Maya Finally, we're sharing a segment by Frequenz-A about Proyecto Tren Maya in the Yucatán peninsula of so-called Mexico. The conversation with a member of Recherche-Ag about a report they published in Solidarity with the Zapatista movement, on the German state and corporate participation in this mega-project and the dangers posed by the Maya Train, which includes huge expansion of electric, travel and other corporate and state infrastructure through sensitive ecosystems and sovereign indigenous lands, being overseen by the Mexican military. You can find this report and more at ya-basta-netz.org. To hear a past interview of ours talking about Tren Maya & AMLO's infrastructure projects, you can find our Februar`y 2nd, 2020 interview.
