We once again catch up with Kevin Bush to find out more about these adventures in Drywall but are quickly distracted into talking about The Great Rocky Mountain Adventure. We're then quickly sidetracked by The Wet and Stick tape system. It's a curious conversation where we explore the trials and tribulations of bringing a new concept to market in the drywall space and the inherent challenges of teaching old drywall dogs new tricks. Kevins knowledge once again shines through as we go deep into the world of grabber and political correctness. We get a surprise pop in from builder and long time Drywaller Heath Jimmerson and have an all around good time on this, the 79th episode of The Drywall Podcast. On this third installment of Adventures in Drywall we tackle articles from the early 2000's. We talk about his faithful dog Rowdy, his deep dive into mold and a bit about his good friend Joe Klaumenzer and a ton of other stuff. Adventures In Drywall is an article Kevin used to write for Walls & Ceilings Magazine spanning over 10 years and two hundred articles. We pluck out some gems and discuss the nature of these discussions. Kevin was a sales rep for Grabber for years and has a vast knowledge about the industry and instruments we use every day. Not only that, he's a good guy and my friend. I hope you enjoy listening to him as much as I did on this, the 64th episode of The Drywall Podcast

WMSE is excited to be back once again at Club Garibaldi for our monthly Local/Live segments. On Tuesday, October 2, we welcome Milwaukee’s “retro”-electronic brother duo, Immortal Girlfriend for a live show and interview on-site and over the airwaves that YOU can join! Milwaukee’s Immortal Girlfriend is a fresh “retro” brother duo of William and Kevin Bush, who use atmospheric layering of electronics to wash over their melodic vocals. While the heart and soul of their sounds might be immersed in nostalgia, their sound is thoroughly modern and akin to chill + synth wave outfits like Washed Out, SURVIVE and Bonobo. In their spare creative time, Immortal Girlfriend also operate as producers out of a music studio in Lannon, laying down sounds for a growing list of Milwaukee artists, including WebsterX and Lex Allen. Although Immortal Girlfriend have been active on the scene for a brief time, the two go far back with their initial collaborative creations in their parents’ basement. Those creative days have produced their debut ‘Daybreak’ EP (released in 2017) and the single “Summer Dream” (released in May of this year). Immortal Girlfriend has graced the stage of Summerfest, Turner Hall Ballroom, Cactus Club and more, supporting diverse bills of music ranging from pop, soul, hip hop and electronic.

Traffic. We've all been stuck in our fair share. Across the world, policy makers are constantly proposing solutions to improve the efficency of our roadways and transit systems. But what about when a shock occurs? Can our transportation system handle the emergency? We talk with Igor Linkov and Maksim Kitsak of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and our own Chief Resilience Officer for the District of Columbia, Kevin Bush. Music From the Free Music Archive: "The Grass is Always Greener" by Pure Grease.
With a majority of people living in urban environments, there is a growing imperative to engineer cities to better withstand an inevitable bevy of potential shocks and stresses. As Washington DC’s first chief resilience officer, Kevin Bush’s task is to develop the District’s first-ever resilience strategy, aiming to tackle challenges ranging from terrorist attacks to homelessness. In this wide-ranging discussion, Bush outlines how chronic stresses like a high cost of living weakens the ability of DC residents to absorb shocks like flooding, and explains how interdisciplinary solutions – such as parks that soak up excess floodwater – help embed resilience into the fabric of the city. A veteran of the Hurricane Sandy response, Bush also advocates for a more systematic approach to disaster recovery and response, such as ensuring critical infrastructure like cell phone towers has adequate backup power supplies. Above all, Bush emphasizes that the city and its residents must deal with everyday challenges in order to be better prepared for potential shocks.
Stephanie Thomas is the new Director of Programs and Small Business Services at the Washington Area Community Investment Fund (WACIF), and she stops by to chat about some of the new programs that they are rolling out to help support and grow small businesses in DC. As always, we check in with Casey from Good Food Markets - they are celebrating their 3 year anniversary of being on RIA Main Street! Then we are joined by Kevin Bush, DC's Chief Resiliency Officer. Kevin visits with us about this new program in DC, and how his team is working to make sure that DC can weather any nature of setback that could disrupt our local economy. Tune in to learn more!
An EXTRA-LONG show (sorry about that), but totally worth it. Guy finally gets his iPad while the UK and other regions get delayed again (HINT: it's most likely Guy's fault!). We also go over some listener feedback from Kevin Bush and our very own John Nemo!. We welcome Steve Stanger of the Mac Attack (http://www.themacattack.us/) podcast and Mac Roundtable (http://www.macroundtable.com) podcast. He talks about starting his own podcast and the three of us talk about backing up your computer, when we switched from the Classic Mac OS over to OS X, what the heck ever happened to Mac User Groups, and iPhoto.
