Philip Reed, better known as the "OFS Finance Guy," isn't afraid to tell it like it is when it comes to money in the oilfield. Between explaining invoice factoring in plain English, sharing war stories about sketchy collections, and breaking down why AR headaches can make or break a company, he had us laughing and learning the whole way through. His path from Michigan to Texas is full of detours, lessons, and mustache-worthy moments that give a raw look at how OFS companies actually stay alive. We got into startups, Midland love-hate stories, and why finance in this industry is equal parts strategy and survival. It's real talk with plenty of humor, just the way Energy 101 likes it.Click here to watch a video of this episode.Join the conversation shaping the future of energy.Collide is the community where oil & gas professionals connect, share insights, and solve real-world problems together. Well control is one of those topics that sounds super technical, but it's basically about keeping a well safe and under control when you're drilling. Dana Varisco and Ryan Hays from Well Control School explain it in a way that makes sense, even if you're not living on a rig every day. We cover why blowout preventers are such a big deal, how teamwork makes all the difference when pressure spikes, and how today's training and tech are shaping safer, smarter operations. Think of it as the ultimate mix of safety, science, and staying calm under pressure, with plenty of real-world stories to bring it to life. Trump 2.0 poses a huge challenge for the renewable energy industry in the US. Not only has the administration rescinded environmental incentives and regulations with bearing on future projects, it has also in various ways delayed and/or obstructed offshore wind projects already under construction (like the Empire Wind and the Revolution Wind projects). What does all of this mean for the renewable energy industry in the US? What does it mean for US competitiveness and the global energy transition? In the introduction, Anna is also joined by Chris Aylett, a Research Fellow at Chatham House's Environment and Society Centre, to discuss some of the main climate stories in the run-up to COP30. To find out, Bhargabi speaks to Ben Backwell, CEO of the Global Wind Energy Council, a member-based organisation that represents over 1,500 companies, organisations and institutions in over 80 countries.

Sean Kelley knows that digital tools aren't just shiny add-ons, they're the backbone of how energy companies can work smarter and faster. In this conversation, Jacob and Julie dig into the real ways technology is cutting inefficiencies, like replacing clunky paper forms with sleek digital systems or using AI to help leaders make decisions with confidence. Sean doesn't sugarcoat the challenges either, touching on change management, centralizing data, and the sometimes-messy process of getting everyone on board with new tools. Along the way, there are plenty of laughs, practical examples, and insights that'll make you think differently about where energy and tech intersect and maybe even how you could clean up inefficiencies in your own world.Click here to watch a video of this episode.Join the conversation shaping the future of energy.Collide is the community where oil & gas professionals connect, share insights, and solve real-world problems together. The policy environment in the US at the moment is challenging, but developers, utilities, and investors are still moving forward with decarbonisation goals and climate action; they're just talking about it and approaching it in a different way. As RE+ (North America's biggest clean energy event) kicks off, Sylvia Leyva Martinez talks to veteran climate journalist and cleantech investor Molly Wood, about the ways in which the industry is navigating the uncertainty. Molly talks about the outdated forecasts of 1–2% load growth which are being blown apart by real demand increases of up to 30% in some regions, driven by electrification, AI, and data centers. If you can't make it to the event this year, Interchange Recharged will bring you the key discussions and exclusive insights so you don't miss out. You'll hear why traditional load forecasts are being upended by surging demand from AI and data centers, and what that means for project planning and risk management. Despite policy headwinds, the money is still flowing, but in smarter ways: into scalable tech like batteries, grid modernization, and distributed solutions. Investors are refocusing on scalable, commercial-ready technologies like batteries, grid modernization, and distributed energy solutions. And as the narrative shifts from using terms like “net zero” to the more pragmatic “energy dominance,” the conversation explores how storytelling shapes strategy, and why hyperscalers like Google and Amazon may even build their own small modular reactors or power islands to secure the future of energy.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill on July 4th, 2025, coupled with an Executive Order (EO) issued by President Trump on July 7th, have shined a light on certain key requirements impacting eligibility for various renewable tax credits that have existed for a number of years, but which have likely been under most people's radar. The requirements are known as the “Beginning of Construction” or “BOC” requirements. On this episode of Alternative Power Plays, Buchanan's Alan Seltzer and John Povilaitis welcome Ed Hild, a principal in Buchanan's government relations practice, and Carl Staiger, a shareholder the firm's tax section with a specific focus on energy-related projects. The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) accelerated the phase-out or termination of tax credits available for most commercial renewable energy projects. As many in the industry know, maintaining eligibility for tax credits has been an important issue for as long as renewable energy tax credits have existed, as the economic viability of many projects have been tied to these credits. During their conversation, the group explores what the changes made in the OBBB and the potential impact of the Executive Order mean for wind and solar developers with a focus on BOC.To learn more about Ed Hild, visit: https://www.bipc.com/edward-hildTo learn more about Carl Staiger, visit: https://www.bipc.com/carl-staigerTo learn more about Alan Seltzer, visit: https://www.bipc.com/alan-seltzerTo learn more about John Povilaitis, visit: https://www.bipc.com/john-povilaitis
Spreadsheets, SCADA systems, terabytes of old data, and a surprising amount of laughter, this one has it all. Jacob and Julie sat down with Bobby Neelon from Drill Down Analytics to finally ask the “dumb” questions most people are too shy to bring up about energy, oil and gas, and the mysterious world of data. Bobby breaks down how companies actually deal with messy files (yes, even those dusty paper records), why AI and machine learning are shaking up the industry, and what makes tools like Power BI, Spotfire, Snowflake, and Databricks different without getting lost in jargon. Along the way, we swap stories about the ridiculous challenges of working in spreadsheets, the quirks of SCADA, and what it means to move everything into the cloud. Whether you're brand new to energy or secretly love a good data puzzle, this episode makes the complicated stuff easy, and pretty fun too.Click here to watch a video of this episode.Join the conversation shaping the future of energy.Collide is the community where oil & gas professionals connect, share insights, and solve real-world problems together. HIGHLIGHTS 4 C's of Success: Colleagues Customers Community Capital On Community Impact "That's true today. Customers, many of them, have a difficult time paying their utility bill. And that's something that you have to focus on. We can't just ignore that reality. And so what we saw was a couple of things. One was we thought that we would be able to help our communities. And maybe beyond what the typical business even sees, the utility business is heavily impacted by how strong their community is because of the customers there... So we felt strongly that this not only was the right thing to do, but was also the right business issue because we really could go in and help our communities. That meant we might have conservation programs and efficiency programs for our customers." RESOURCES Download the Episode Transcript Here

For decades, we've heard about the need to reduce carbon emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy. Yet despite corporate pledges, policy initiatives, and technological advancements, global emissions keep rising. Now, we find ourselves at a crossroads: either we take immediate and radical action, or we brace for accelerating climate impacts and economic upheaval. So, what does this mean for the energy sector? Can utilities, policymakers, and business leaders move beyond incremental changes to the kind of transformative shifts that climate science demands? To explore these questions, this week's Power Perspectives episode welcomes Kevin Anderson, professor of energy and climate change at the University of Manchester and co-founder of Climate Uncensored. Known for his blunt analysis and data-driven critiques, Kevin has spent his career exposing where we've gone wrong—and, more importantly, outlining where we go from here. If you want to cut through the noise and understand the true scale of the challenge ahead, this is a conversation you won't want to miss.
