During our previous study of John's gospel, we became more familiar with the work of the Holy Spirit as we examined verses 12-15 in chapter 16. One very important thing we learned was that it was the Holy Spirit that inspired the Old Testament prophets, along with the New Testament Apostles, to write God's full and final message to mankind; the document we know as the Holy Bible, the inspired and infallible word of God. Within the Scriptures authored by the Holy Spirit, mankind has available to it all that our absolutely Holy God desires us to know about Him, His nature and character; His unequaled love for mankind, His mercy, His patience, and His grace toward all those who come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Christianity is not a faith of monks and hermits. As Christians, we are not called to withdraw from society, we are called to influence it for Christ by going forth into the world and make disciples: Matthew 28:18-20 - 18And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." We do not fulfill this command be separating ourselves from the world and hiding in comfortable cloistered environments, we do this through relationships with others within a hostile and evil world being the salt of the earth, the light of the world, a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14). And, nowhere should the social and relation aspects of the "new man" be more important and evident than in the home. The home is the single most important societal institution in the world and it is under vicious attack by the world. This morning will bring us to the end of Chapter 15 of the apostle John's gospel as we examine verses 26-27. As we study John's gospel, we have walked with Him now for about three years of His ministry. We have read about His teachings and His miraculous works of signs and wonders, all of which prove His deity and power. Last week we dealt with Jesus's words of warning to His disciples; that because the world hated Jesus, it would also hate them and all those who would believe in Jesus in the future, since they would carry Christ's message to the world. When we think about this, we find that, as Christians, we live in two very different worlds. As children of God, we are citizens of God's Kingdom, and we are blessed with God's infinite love. We are recipients of all His divine promises. At the same time, we live in a world that hates us, a world that is dominated by Satan, a world that hates God and His Christ, but we are not part of this world, yet God has given us a purpose while we live here. We move now to the profound promises and work of God in the lives of His apostles, and our lives as well, through His Holy Spirit. This morning, we will continue with the same text as Jesus continues to prepare His disciples for their coming ministry as apostles. He warns them that, since He chose them out of the world, the world will hate them, the same as the world hates Jesus. "Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit." What we have here, in these few words of desired blessing, is a wealth of instruction. He is saying that it is more important than anything else, in living the Christian life, that you realize that it will take the imparted grace of Christ to live your life to the glory of God and to be able to manifest the fruit of the Spirit in your walk with Him. Paul has shown us this in every way that he could in this letter that we have studied.

So, we have done away with the old man and have put on the new. We are Christians, loving and following Christ. What do we do now? Do we hide in Christian enclaves or at the top of some mountain separating ourselves from the world? Well, the answer to that must be no. We are commanded in Matthew 28:19-20 to go and make disciples of all the world...
