During our previous study of John's gospel, we became more familiar with the work of the Holy Spirit as we examined verses 12-15 in chapter 16. One very important thing we learned was that it was the Holy Spirit that inspired the Old Testament prophets, along with the New Testament Apostles, to write God's full and final message to mankind; the document we know as the Holy Bible, the inspired and infallible word of God. Within the Scriptures authored by the Holy Spirit, mankind has available to it all that our absolutely Holy God desires us to know about Him, His nature and character; His unequaled love for mankind, His mercy, His patience, and His grace toward all those who come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Christianity is not a faith of monks and hermits. As Christians, we are not called to withdraw from society, we are called to influence it for Christ by going forth into the world and make disciples: Matthew 28:18-20 - 18And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." We do not fulfill this command be separating ourselves from the world and hiding in comfortable cloistered environments, we do this through relationships with others within a hostile and evil world being the salt of the earth, the light of the world, a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14). And, nowhere should the social and relation aspects of the "new man" be more important and evident than in the home. The home is the single most important societal institution in the world and it is under vicious attack by the world.
