In this episode, Major Alexandra Bearden, Associate Professor in the Administrative and Civil Law Department (ADA) at The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School (TJAGLCS) and Law of Federal Employment portfolio holder interviews Ms. Anna Saulter, 2024 Summer Associate Program intern, and Ms. Dorothy Edger-ton, Senior Civilian at Fort Jackson. Ms. Saulter discusses her unique experience as a summer associate before starting her final year of law school. Ms. Saulter had hands on experience working with civilian attorneys in various areas of law. Ms. Edgerton has served as an Army civilian for 32 years and provides a unique perspec-tive. Not only did Ms. Edgerton serve as a mentor to the summer associates at Fort Jackson, but she also had the unique opportunity to sit on the interview panel for the inaugural 2024 Summer Associate Program. In this episode, MAJ Brian Jones, Associate Professor in the National Security Law Department, talks with Professor Vinita Singh, Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Law. Professor Singh shares her research on economic sanctions imposed by the United States and European Union connected with the Russia–Ukraine war. Professor Singh focuses on export controls on luxury goods, using those measures as a case study to reevaluate widespread beliefs about the effectiveness of economic sanctions. Professor Singh discusses her arguments in favor of reconceptualizing the utility of economic sanctions and proposes new paradigms for considering and measuring the success of economic sanctions. Professor Singh's article, Louboutin Lawfare: Exploring Conceptions of Sanctions Utility Through Export Controls on Luxury Goods, is forthcoming in the Northwestern University Law Review. In this episode, the Talent Management Office (TMO) discusses how judge advocates should approach their assignment preference sheets, which is just the beginning of the conversation. The biggest change to the assignment preference sheet is the inclusion of leadership questions for those seeking specific leadership roles. The online assignment preference sheet will be available 1 August 2024. TMO uses the preference sheet to understand where you are interested in being stationed and what type of work you want to do going forward. The preference sheet will also be used to tell TMO about specific personal considerations (EFMP, MACP, spouse or partner career goals, extended family concerns, etc.).
