Mike speaks with legal advisor for the "Let Them Breathe" movement in California, Scott Davison, about the cases he's working on that just might give Californians' children their freedom back.

Sharon McKeeman is a brave mom and mother here in San Diego County who was instrumental in getting our schools to finally re-open in CA and is now fighting to get masks off our kids. She has created an organization with over 20,000 members - Let Them Breathe (letthembreathe.net) - that is growing dramatically. We tackle how masking students all day in schools is actually hurting our young extremely low Covid-risk children. State rules currently only require indoor masking, but San Diego Unified announced Thursday that it will require students and staff on school campuses to wear masks indoors and outdoors. The District says the new policy is meant to keep kids safe and in school... Why is San Diego Unified taking a stricter stance on mask enforcement than most other school districts? Lou talks with Sharron Mckeeman from Let Them Breathe about all of it.

ReOpen San Diego, Let Them Breathe, and San Diego Rise Up joined forces with other members of the San Diego community and voiced their opposition to San Diego County's COVID-19 response, and medical mandates of any kind. In what is likely the most attended County Board meeting ever, San Diegans spent their Tuesday waiting hours to give a 2-minute speech during public hearing. Many of the speakers directly called our Sup. Nathan Fletcher and Dr. Wilma Wooten, some even called for their resignation. The speeches went on for 4.5 hours, and some people waited the entire time and didn't even get a chance to speak. This episode of KUSI's Mark My Words features a montage of some of the speeches given by members of the San Diego Community.

Vista Unified School District's board meeting got interrupted three times last Thursday when protestors refused to wear masks. The leader of the anti-mask group “Let Them Breathe” was kicked out of the meeting. Meanwhile, a week after the San Diego County Sheriff's Department released an edited video of a deputy supposedly overdosing on fentanyl…. the unedited body cam video was released, leaving unanswered questions. Plus, scholars from UC Berkeley are questioning the legality of the September recall election in California.

Covid vaccine trials underway for kids 5 and younger. There are 144 children in the country who are part of the first phase and clinical trial to test Pfizer vaccines. According to the CDC guidelines without vaccines, there's no school for kids. So what do we do now? Sharon Mckeeman has organized “Let them Breathe,” an organization that wants to get the masks off the faces of little children going to school. She is calling on all parents and concerned citizens to join her and hundreds of others this Saturday, May 1st  at 10:00 am at Oceanside Pier to walk with her on a march, wearing signs, placards and their own smiling, mask free faces.  In the second segment, we discuss a radical new proposal before the San Diego County Board of Supervisors which will make it very difficult for property owners to ever collect rental income. Mary Peveto of Neighbors for Clean Air joins me on the podcast today. We dive into this gap between safety and legality and the many air toxics that are not regulated under the Clean Air Act. Like many Oregonians, I always thought our state had a green reputation and healthy air. I have learned as a lung doctor that is not the case. There is a large gap between what people think is happening with air quality regulation and the reality of our permitting processes that does not protect human health. We also talk about the history of racial injustice in poor air quality, and the difference in action when levels of arsenic were known to be elevated in the historically black community of North Portland vs when cancer causing air toxics were found in whiter neighborhoods.
