So in the 17th Century, in Rome, Giulia Tofana led a group of women who made devotional oils, cosmetic liquids and of course, poison. This poison was a famed untraceable and undetectable poison for it's time and it was dubbed Aqua Tofana. 4 doses they said, could put any man in his grave. It was a way for women, who could not get a divorce to get out of some very bad situations and over 20 years, these women claimed to have killed over 600 men, We discuss the poison, the time, the place and famous folks who felt they were victims of this strange brew. We also talk bodily autonomy, the trend 'Make Aqua Tofana Great Again', Dandy's World, The Princess Bride, (Princess Buttercup has entered the chat), iocaine powder and just plain being decent to one another in this, wait, they REALLY did that episode of the Family Plot Podcast!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/family-plot--4670465/support.

When we think of serial killers, we tend to think of men—Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Jack the Ripper. But in the 1800s, the deadliest killers often wore corsets. In fact, so many women were arrested for serial poisoning that the era became known as the “Golden Age of Arsenic.” Journey back in time to trace the crimes of Lydia Sherman, a Victorian Era femme fatale who left a trail of bodies in her wake. How did she — and women like her — evade capture for so long? And how did their murders help give rise to modern criminal forensics?Guests: Kristen Frederick-Frost, curator of science at the Smithsonian's National Musuem of American History Lisa Perrin, author and illustrator of The League of Lady Poisoners Deborah Blum, author of The Poisoner's Handbook. Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Gary Hall, son of comedian Huntz Hall. If you are a fan of The Bowery Boys or The Dead End Kids, you absolutely know Huntz by his trademark hat and his verbal and physical comedy. Along with his pal Leo Gorcey, Hall made countless films together – there were 48 alone for The Bowery Boys – and even appeared together on Broadway which kicked things off in 1935. They were so indelibly linked together that The Beatles wanted to put them both on the cover of their Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band but only one of them is on there. Hear why on this episode! We also talk to Gary about his often strained if loving relationship with his father who was often at work and play so much there wasn't much of a bond between father and son. We discuss much of his film career including later films like The Phynx, Won Ton Ton: The Dog Who Saved Hollywood andValentino. We also discuss how Huntz and host Josh Mills' mother, actress Edie Adams starred in a production in the late 80s of the classic Arsenic and Old Lace along with Dody Goodman, Jonathan Frid and James Mac Arthur. Whoa, that a trip that would have been! Moreover, we get a dose of classic Hollywood upbringing when we discuss Gary's involvement with the school administration of The Oakwood School, which Josh attended and many of our podcast guests have come from. This is the Rarified Podcast. Everyone has a story.

Dan has two very different tales this week. His first story shares a dark history of a woman who killed many, many people including her own children. Despite being gone from this earth for an incredibly long period of time, is it possible she still has more killing to do? Then we head to Mexico City where we explore a possible demonic possession that went incredibly wrong for someone who was only trying to help. Lynze's first story this week seems pretty straightforward but a few special details make it so creepy and unsettling. Then, in her last story, she shares a real life awful story that leads to a beautiful story with a very happy ending. It's been a while since we had a paranormal palette cleanser. Enjoy! Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Marica: Hello Dr Cabral, Grateful for all that you do. I recently came across a couple of articles wherein they say that vinegar (due to its acidity) can cause cancer because cancer loves sugar and acidity. What is your take on this? I was of the impression that apple cider vinegar was healthy. Should we replace vinegar with lemon? Isn't lemon acidic too? Whenever I feel that I finally got diet figured out I come across something like this. Pati: Hi Dr. Cabral, Thank you so much for all that you do! I have learned so much from you on my healing journey. I wanted to ask you if you've ever heard of cervical dystonia. A friend was recently diagnosed and her head tilts to the left. She is experiencing a lot of pain from it. Is there any advice you can give. According to Google there is no cure. Thank you, Pati Alex: Hey dr Cabral. Thank you for all of the information you put out there. I searched for my question but you haven't gone over it in over 2000 episodes and my podcast player won't play it. My blood work shows low alp (Alkaline phosphatase). Fortunately other than slightly out of wack testosterone and slightly elevated bp the rest of my blood work is good I just always have low alp. Debbie: Today I started the 7 day detox ( I could not send notification so I can get daily e mails because it wouldn't let me I have a question....It says to drink the shake at 8:00 am an hour after you get up....well today is my day off & I do not get up that early on my days off as I am up at 5:30 during the week. My job is super physical & my body is tired. So today I drank the first shake at 9:00 as soon as I woke up....(why do you have to be up for an hour before you consume the shake)? I guess I will stay on track & drink the next one at 11:30 & 3 1/2 hours after that.Is this going to mess anything up? Melissa: I saw recently that Redmond's real salt tested high for lead and arsenic. I use redmonds salt and their relyte electrolytes. My heavy metals test came back high for arsenic. Could this be a cause? I could it figure out another source of where I would be getting it. It is so frustrating and confusing trying to find brands you can trust as I have always thought Redmonds was great. Clare explores the Lower Tavy Valley in Devon with Sharon Gedye a physical geographer who's spent years discovering how the area's rich history has shaped its landscape and people.Sharon takes Clare on a circular walk starting on West Down, on the western edge of Dartmoor, heading down towards the River Tavy and eventually reaching Double Waters, the confluence of the Tavy and Walkham. On the way they see evidence of arsenic mines, copper workings and discuss long forgotten but fascinating fish weirs. One of these, Sharon discovered with the help of court records, was the focus of an unlikely battle in 1280. Sharon is also interested in how humans shape landscape and how landscape shapes us. Thinking of her grandfather, she says: He was a quarry-man on Dartmoor and by picturing him working and polishing the granite, I feel closer to how he experienced the world. Also on the walk are two of Sharon's friends who bring their own areas of expertise to their interpretation of the area: archeologist Chris Smart, and heritage consultant, Andrew ThompsonSharon writes a blog which you can find at www.awalkinenglishweather.com They met at WhatThreeWords: grin.tend.negotiators / Grid Ref: SX479708Presenter: Clare Balding Producer: Karen Gregor
