Eric Mobley is a 27 year old living in Liouville, Kentucky. He works in higher education and has been married for five years. Currently adapting to post-COVID life, Eric shares his story on how this past year has been very different than most. Not only did he have to navigate a pandemic, Eric also found out his family history (and part of his identity) is significantly different than he previously believed. Listen to Eric Mobley as he discusses with Ellen and Jenn: • Being raised by older parents. • Finding out as an adult -- through a DNA test --that he was donor conceived. • Learning that a high school classmate was a half-sibling! • Meeting other half siblings and the donor. • Answering medical questions and facing mental health challenges. • Fearing rejection and finding the right support. I will present the connection between the Wheeler-DeWitt approach for two-dimensional quantum gravity and holography, focusing in the case of Liouville theory coupled to c = 1 matter. The analysis is in a spirit similar to the recent studies of Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. Matrix quantum mechanics and the associated double scaled fermionic field theory, are providing the complete dynamics of such two-dimensional universes with c=1 matter, including the effects of topology change.

Considering two dimensional gravity coupled to a CFT, we show that a semiclassical black hole can be described in terms of two Liouville theories matched at the horizon. The black hole exterior corresponds to a space-like while the interior to a time-like Liouville theory. This matching automatically implies that a semiclassical black hole has an infinite entropy. The path integral description of the time-like Liouville theory (the Black Hole interior) is studied and it is found that the correlation functions of the coupled CFT-gravity system are dominated by two (complex) saddle points, even in the semiclassical limit. We argue that this system can be interpreted as two interacting Bose-Einstein condensates constructed out of two degenerate quantum states. In AdS/CFT context, the same system is mapped into two interacting strings intersecting inside a three-dimensional BTZ black hole. (C) 2014 The Author

Abstract: Motivated by recent experiments, which demonstrated lasing and cooling of the electromagnetic modes in a resonator coupled to a superconducting qubit, we describe the specific mechanisms creating the population inversion, and we study the spectral properties of these systems in the lasing state. Different levels of the theoretical description, i.e., the semi-classical and the semi-quantum approximation, as well as an analysis based on the full Liouville equation are compared. We extend the usual quantum optics description to account for strong qubit-resonator coupling and include the effects of low-frequency noise. Beyond the lasing transition we find for a single- or few-qubit system the phase diffusion strength to grow with the coupling strength, which in turn deteriorates the lasing state.
