I was back at home last week visiting family and friends, and my friend Kiley Yates from South O'Brien (IA) HS helped me bring together Derek Keizer from Hull Western Christian (IA) and Loren DeJong of Siouxland Christian (IA) HS together at my buddy Chad Lang's restuarant "Langer's" in Sheldon for a great podcast! We discussed summer strategies, staying in coaching for an extended period of time, sustaining a successful program, what these coaches learned from their highly successful seasons and much more! A great podcast with three of Iowa's best boys basketball coaches!

In this episode, join us for an inspiring conversation again with Dr. Robert Langer, Sc.D. (MIT), as he shares invaluable advice on navigating a successful scientific career and offers a glimpse into the future of nanoscience. In this episode, we explore:Professional Development:Dr. Langer discusses how early-career scientists can build strong, cross-disciplinary partnerships and the key habits and mindsets that helped him transition from bench research to world-changing innovation. He also reflects on how his mentorship approach has evolved over decades, providing guidance to those pursuing leadership roles at the nexus of academia and industry.---Questions:Professional Development:Throughout your career, you've emphasized interdisciplinary collaboration. How can emerging scientists strategically cultivate effective, multidisciplinary partnerships early in their professional journeys?Reflecting on your own professional trajectory, what habits or mindsets do you believe were most crucial in transitioning successfully from scientific inquiry to impactful innovation? How have your mentorship strategies evolved over the years, especially when guiding individuals pursuing leadership roles at the intersection of academia and industry?Considering recent advancements, what novel areas within nanoscience do you find most promising or surprising, particularly those relevant to medical applications? How do you foresee the integration of nanoscience with other disciplines (like artificial intelligence or bioinformatics) reshaping pharmaceutical and biomedical research over the next decade?Could you highlight a recent breakthrough or approach in your lab related to nanoscience that significantly changed your thinking about future therapeutic possibilities? When you developed curricula for math and science education, what core principles guided your approach to ensuring both depth of content and accessibility to diverse learners? How did you balance rigorous scientific accuracy with the practical engagement of students who might not initially be inclined towards STEM subjects?Reflecting on the implementation phase, what strategies or frameworks were most effective in training educators to deliver complex scientific concepts confidently? In your experience, what differentiates a merely effective textbook from one that genuinely inspires students and significantly advances their understanding of scientific concepts?Given your extensive experience, what critical components or features should I emphasize or enhance in my upcoming chemistry textbooks to better support active learning and critical thinking?Based on your observations, what common pitfalls should be avoided when structuring textbooks intended for advanced high school or undergraduate science courses?Considering current global challenges, how can aspiring scientists and educators ensure their contributions remain impactful, relevant, and grounded? Finally, could you share a recent experience or insight that profoundly influenced your views on education, mentorship, or scientific innovation?----Note: The views of this podcast reflect those of my guest(s) and I.

In this episode of the Win Make Give podcast, host Chad Hyams welcomes Steven Langer, founder of Well by Design, to discuss the significant theme of work-life coherence and organizational wellness. Throughout the conversation, Stephen offers valuable insights into fostering a culture of wellness at work, drawing from his personal experiences and professional expertise. Stephen analyzes the outdated concept of work-life balance, which he argues is unattainable for many. Instead, he advocates for "work-life coherence," a concept emphasizing a fluid integration of work and personal life that allows for flexibility and proactive management of disruptions. Citing studies, Stephen discusses the detrimental effects of loneliness in the workplace and presents actionable methods for leaders to cultivate a supportive and engaging environment for their teams. Dr. Langer is the first woman to ever receive tenure in psychology at Harvard, where she has researched, in her own lab, mindfulness for over 40 years. Dr. Langer has published well over 200 research articles and 13 best-selling books, (“Mindfulness”, “The Mindful Body”, “The Art of Noticing”, “Counter Clockwise”, and “The Power of Mindful Learning”) in which she has written on the illusion of control, aging, stress, decision-making, and health without meditation. In this thought-provoking episode, host Samantha Cieslinski talks with Dr. Ellen Langer, Harvard psychologist and pioneer of mindfulness research, about the ideas behind her newest book, The Mindful Body.Dr. Langer redefines mindfulness as the simple act of noticing. She explains how our thoughts, beliefs, and even the language we use can directly impact our physical health. The conversation explores how imagination can influence biology, how labels like “prediabetic” affect outcomes, and how choice and control can reduce stress in measurable ways.Samantha and Dr. Langer also discuss the pressure to make the “right” decisions, especially in motherhood, and how questioning rigid rules can open the door to more freedom. They unpack why uncertainty can be a strength, how behavior always makes sense in context, and what it means to live more fully in the present.Whether you're a parent, a health skeptic, or someone trying to live with more clarity, this episode offers real insight into how awareness can shift the way you move through the world.Connect with Dr. Ellen LangerWebsite: ellenlanger.me Books: The Mindful Body and more Instagram: @ellenjlangerConnect with Samantha / The Running Wine MomWebsite: therunningwinemom.com Instagram: @therunningwinemom_If you enjoyed this episode, follow the podcast, leave a review, and share it with someone who could use a fresh way of thinking about health, parenting, or presence.

Forests are incredibly important ecosystems on our planet for many different reasons from carbon storage to biodiversity, and yet they face constant pressure to meet human demands in many forms. We dive deep into Rory McIlroy's historic win this year, reliving the highs, the lows, and his inspiring comeback. 1:44:29 Abspann.

Thank you for your podcast. I discovered Celtic music in the 1990s in France with a french band that has since disappeared, Tonynara. I could be wrong but I don't think I've ever heard it on your podcast. This group remains a reference for me and I can only advise you to play one or two songs at the next opportunity. Thanks !” Caleb Cotter sent a photo: "Hi Marc, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for featuring the Irish Lassies' music this year. You've introduced me to so many incredible artists, and I truly appreciate that! I've also been really enjoying your Dancing with Hobbits album—it's fantastic! You definitely nailed it with that project, and you should be incredibly proud of it. You've always encouraged us to send over recommendations, so I wanted to share one with you: My friend's band, The Mad Ferret from Edinburgh, UK. They're amazing, and I think you'd really enjoy their music. Here's one of my favorite tracks that I think you'll love. Also, the Lassies would like to send you something in the mail as a thank you. Could you please share an address where we can send it? Wishing you a wonderful New Year and thank you again for everything you do for the Celtic music community!” Patrick Rieger emailed photos: "Hi Marc, Some more celtic musicians from the family's renaissance festival season, this time the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival. Pittsburgh is a small faire, but the musicians are still great. We could only spend one day there, so we didn't see them all. We did get to see The Reelin' Rogues, The Craic Show, Sarah the Harpist (Sarah Marie Mullen), and just as we were leaving at the end of the day, Magnus and Maggie. Despite the musicians and us seeing each other one or two times a year, we still get to be friends. Big smiles. Daniel from the Craic Show wanting to clink glasses at the Pirates Pub. Sarah and my wife Gayle got into a conversation about environmental issues.”

Brad Welton of Sierra Vista, AZ emailed to ask about upcoming trips. initially. I told him about my Celtic Invasion of Galicia, but of course, that is moved back until 2026. We're going to Wexford, Ireland this summer. He followed up and wrote: "Ah Ha, thanks for the web address for the Celtic Invasions. I will check it out. Thanks Marc! I still have a number of iPod's that I keep working, My favorite is the Shuffle. I use it to play your podcasts whilst out bicycling. The tunes really pump me up; especially needed for longer distance, more strenuous rides. Thank you for all of your hard work over the years. I have recently been listening to some of your early recordings and hear you rejoicing at reaching #60 or the like, and think, 'man, you wouldn't believe what you have accomplished by now'! You have been so prolific." John Thompson emailed: "Hi Marc, Best of luck with your upcoming surgery. And thanks again for another wonderful year of music on the podcast. Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (with a quick recovery)." Elise of the band Charmas wrote: "Honestly, Marc, the times are changing. I'm watching it happen and not sure what to think going forward. The pandemic lockdown shattered peoples' long - standing traditions and now stepping right back into those shoes feels as unsatisfying as attending a previously - loved concert that now has only half attendance. Charmas' clientele for performing at Irish parties aged out and they simply aren't having parties anymore. St. Pat's is a dying holiday. Bagpiping is still going strong but the Highland Games events haven't rebounded to their former size and it's hard to get new generations excited from scratch. Bands like Tempest are still playing for their longtime followers. Bands like Altan have provided so much great instrumental music that there's enough supply in the world to last forever, without more being produced. If Celtic musicians want to get fed by playing music, they have to create something new and necessary for the next generations. I have no idea what that should be, but I think the best way to get peoples' attention is to create music that is truly innovative, relevant, and useful! It's a good challenge if we decide we are up for it :)"
In this episode, my guest is Dr. Ellen Langer, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Harvard University and the world's leading researcher on the mind-body connection and the power our thinking has on our physical health. She explains how specific ways of framing and asking questions about the world shape our physical health and rate of aging. Dr. Langer also explains how our perception of time and control significantly impact our rate of physical healing, hormones, immune system, and longevity. She describes mindfulness as a way of framing life, not simply a meditation or other practice, and discusses data showing how to use one's mind to overcome health challenges and achieve remarkable outcomes. Dr. Langer is a luminary and pioneer in researching the relationship between the mind and body with scientific rigor. Her work and our discussion are applicable to women and men of all ages and walks of life. Read the full episode show notes at hubermanlab.com.
