Penn State football picked up it's second commitment of the week when three-star defensive end Mason Robinson decommitted from the Northwestern Wildcats and committed to the Nittany Lions. A day after making the announcement, Robinson sits down with Thomas Frank Carr on the BWI Daily Edition to discuss his journey to Happy Valley and his "second chance" to play at a program like Penn State.  Robinson starts the conversation by discussing how lucky he feels to have the opportunity to join Penn State's class of 2023 and how his family has helped him through the process. Next, he and T-Frank discuss the nature of recruiting, what it's taught Robinson about life, himself, and things he's realized along the way. They also discuss his recruiting timeline and how close things were this spring between Northwestern and Penn State when he originally chose the Wildcats. Robinson shares some conversations with Penn State head coach James Franklin and defensive line coach John Scott Jr.  Next, they discuss how Robinson will fit into the defense and how the Nittany Lions play up front under defensive coordinator Manny Diaz. Robinson gives T-Frank insight into how he'll fit at defensive end, including a nugget about how the team uses its linemen.  Finally, they discuss Robinson's senior season film and how he progressed from his junior to senior year. T-Frank tells Robinson how impressed he is with his physical development, but Robinson focuses more on his growth in other areas during the conversation.  Lastly, they discuss what is next for Robinson and when he'll arrive at Penn State to enroll.  Learn more about your ad choices. Penn State's made its needs known early in the 2022 transfer portal season. The Nittany Lions have handed out several offers, most of which have been at the receiver position. Find out what the top targets are and which players are visiting campus or getting visits from coaches. Subscribe to the BWI Daily Edition on YouTube so you never miss the show! https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Host Nate Bauer and Blue White Illustrated publisher Sean Fitz start the show by recapping the transfer that has left the Penn State program since the portal opened on Monday. The list is surprisingly short, considering how other programs around the country were hit this week. They go through the names and assess the situation from both sides, including how backup quarterback Christian Veilleux's absence affects the program. They also discuss how for some teams and players, the portal is a blessing that can move players on to better situations that suit their talent level or personal situation.  Next, they discuss the receivers that Penn State offered out of the gates this week. Fitz is zeroing in on local prospects Dont'e Thornton and Dante Cephas. He also lists when those players might visit campus to see if they're a fit. One of them already has a date lined up.  Finally, they examine the players who still need to decide about their futures at Penn State. For example, what is the status of Keyvone Lee after another cryptic social media post? They discuss their impressions of Lee's plans and then run through the list of players who have NFL Draft decisions to make.  Finally, Fitz and Bauer focus on NIL and how things are happening behind the scenes. Bauer explains that just because nothing has happened yet, it doesn't mean that it can't happen this offseason. He discusses what he's heard about the concerns with compensation for players and the strains it could put on the locker room.  Lastly, Fitz gives an update on recruiting heading into the biggest official visit weekend of December. Penn State is hosting several key recruits that they hope to commit before the early signing period at the end of December. He gives an update on Kaveion Keys, Mason Robinson, Christopher Johnson, and Keyshawn Blackstock. Check out the show to find out who those players are (if you don't know already) and whether or not they're coming to Penn State.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's coming down to crunch time for Penn State football with several top prospects as May draws to a close. The BWI Daily Edition Recruiting show focuses on two top prospects who have been in the news lately. Recruiting insider Ryan Snyder and reporter Greg Pickel tackle that and other notable news items from the last week.  They start with the news that four-star receiver Rodney Gallagher moved up his commitment date from July 4th to May 25th. This news comes just days after reports in the recruiting world surfaced that Gallagher was leaning towards committing to West Virginia. What's going on? Snyder explains what he's learned and what factors play into the Laurel Highlands receiver's situation. Also, where does Snyder think that Gallagher will choose Wednesday? He gives his thoughts.  Next, they discuss another Penn State prospect that was supposedly a lock for the Nittany Lions in three-star defensive end Mason Robinson. But, like Gallagher, there were rumblings recently that Penn State's lead wasn't only slipping but that the defensive lineman planned on committing to Northwestern after a visit earlier this month. Pickel and Snyder discuss the situation there and dissect what has transpired since then. Finally, they wrap up with a discussion about elite prospect Kadyn Proctor, the 31st player in the nation, according to On3's player rankings. He's set an official visit to Penn State for the summer. Does Penn State have a chance? Snyder gives his thoughts on why the Nittany Linos are hosting Proctor. Penn State football has a long and successful track record of recruiting players, especially defenders, from McDonough high school in Maryland. The next in that line is three-star defensive end, Mason Robinson. The junior defender is heading into his senior season, holding an offer from Penn State, and is fresh off a visit to the school. He sits down with the host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, to discuss his time in Happy Valley. They'll also discuss his trip to South Carolina, his game, and T-Frank finishes the interview by getting to know Robinson better. They start with Robinson's trip last weekend to Penn State's campus to watch practice and meet with the staff. First, Robinson takes a moment to thank the people that hosted him over the weekend. Next, he explains that he wanted to get to know defensive line coach John Scott Jr. more on his fourth trip to the school. The 6-3 defensive end came away impressed with Scott and the program overall. He also gives T-Frank insight into Penn State head coach James Franklin as a coach. Next, Robinson lets T-Frank know who he met on the trip from a player level. There's a long list of McDonough players on the roster, and Robinson met them all. That includes fifth-year defensive tackle PJ Mustipher, whom he met for the first time. He gives some insight into the conversation they had as well. Next, they pull back from Penn State and discuss what Robinson looks for from a school. Finally, he explains what environment he and his parents want for his next football destination. With that in mind, T-Frank asks about Robinson's trip to South Carolina on April 4th. Robinson gives his impressions of the school, the football program, and what he thought of the weather. After that, they shift to discussing Robinson's game on the field. After discussing some of the Maryland native's favorite pass-rushing moves in their last conversation, they look instead at his approach to the game mentally. First, t-Franks asks Robinson to describe himself as a football player and then discusses what he's seen of the McDonough edge rusher on film. From there, they discuss film study, his father's influence on him, and what he has in store for himself from a physical growth perspective. Finally, they wrap up with some "get to know you" questions. This weekend, Penn State football hosts several key recruits from both the portal and the following several recruiting classes. Recruiting insider Ryan Snyder joins the BWI Daily edition to discuss the critical names and positions Penn State is hosting over the next few hours. Host Thomas Frank Carr starts the show by addressing Penn State's immediate need, edge rusher. The team hosts former Maryland edge rusher Demeioun Robinson on Friday as they continue to seek help at that position in the portal. But, is he the answer that they seek? Yes, according to T-Frank. He explains what skills the former top 100 recruit has and why he might be the best option left after Penn State missed out on their top targets earlier this year. He and Snyder also discuss Akheem Mesidor and how he would fit at Penn State. Head coach James Franklin outlined that Penn State is very interested in a portal edge so landing one will be critical. However, according to both Snyder and T-Frank, something might get in the way of the Nittany Lions landing either prospect. Next, Snyder runs down the list of players visiting this weekend in recruiting. Players he mentions include unranked defensive end Mason Robinson from McDonough, and several other important players in the 2023 cycle, including quarterback Marcus Stokes. The Nittany Lions are also hosting another edge rusher, this one from outside of the region in Durham native Jaybron Harvey. Despite having four players on the offensive line locked up for the Class of 2023, Penn State continues to host offensive linemen. Georgia native Paul Mubenga visits this weekend. What position does he play? T-Frank and Snyder discuss if the 6-4 lineman can play tackle or guard. Finally, they wrap up with players that Snyder spoke to this week after previously visiting Penn State. First, they highlight the interior offensive line prospect for 2024, Kyle Altuner, a standout at the Under Armour camp in Baltimore last month. T-Frank and Snyder discuss his potential position, their thoughts on his performance from their in-person experience, and what Altuner had to say about Penn State. Finally, they discuss ascending quarterback prospect for 2024, Davi Belfort. After a hot start to the year, Penn State football went dark in recruiting but came back in April by flipping tight end Andrew Rappleyea from Michigan. Now that they've secured one spring commitment from the four-star tight end, who is next? That is what the host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, on today's edition of the show. He uses Penn State's top prospects and their announced unofficial visits to give a barometer of when a commitment might come. Finally, T-Frank looks at the class breakdown and examines where Penn State needs to land a commitment. Three Penn State prospects to watch this spring. The first prospect that T-Frank mentions is four-star receiver Rodney Gallagher. The Pittsburgh native announced five dates this month where he'll visit some of his top schools for unofficial visits. From that list, T-Frank points out the schools that Penn State will have to compete the hardest against to earn Gallagher's services. From there, he explains why Gallagher is such an essential prospect in this class and why T-Frank thinks he's a "must-land" for the Nittany Lions. The second prospect that T-Frank shows is four-star linebacker, Tony Rojas. The speedster linebacker has an impressive list of unofficial visits lined up for the coming month, many of which are in short order. T-Frank notes that several are early NIL heavy-hitters, and one is a perennial powerhouse. Finally, he tells you and then mentions a common thread between Rojas and Gallagher about how their visits line up. The third and final prospect is an under-the-radar player in McDonough defensive end, Mason Robinson. The unranked edge rusher has an offer from Penn State, a short list of schools, and a high track record visiting the school. Is he the most likely player to commit? T-Frank gives a quick scouting report on Robinson because fans might not be familiar with him in a crowded class of edge rushers in the region. Finally, T-Frank brings up a dark horse candidate to commit to the Nittany Lions. Check out the show to hear which player was on campus Wednesday and what that player could mean to the Class of 2023. Finally, T-Frank examines the class by position and side of the ball. Where does Penn State need to secure a commitment? Howx do their class numbers and ranks stack up? Lastly, he gives an outline to end the show. Penn State's five-star defensive end in the Class of 2022, Dani Dennis-Sutton, isn't on campus yet, but he's acting like it. He joins the BWI Daily Edition to talk to host Thomas Frank Carr about his game, life, and journey to becoming a Nittany Lion. He also discusses what he's doing to prepare himself for next season in today's episode. T-Frank starts by diving right into the question fans want to know most. Will Dennis-Sutton be ready to compete early in his career? This offseason, Penn State head coach James Franklin said as much when talking about the 6-5 McDonough high school star during National Signing Day. How did that make Dennis-Sutton feel? He and T-Frank discuss that, and then Dennis-Sutton shifts the focus to the entire class. Finally, T-Frank asks him what his goals are for the fall. Next, T-Frank asks Dennis-Sutton about his on-field skills, which are impressive. But it's not just the physical tools that the 255-pound pass rusher brings to the table; he's also adept at the technical aspects of his position. So, T-Frank asks him how he was keyed into their importance so early in his development. Finally, Dennis-Sutton talked about his journey to become the player he is today. Part of that journey involves the COVID-19 Pandemic. So how was losing a season of football beneficial for Dennis-Sutton? T-Frank asks him what happened and what he learned about himself through that trial. He also explains how one of the side effects of the pandemic was to spark what has become a life-long passion for Dennis-Sutton. They then transition back to talking about Dennis-Sutton's game, specifically his pass-rushing moves. After discussing which ones he thinks are his signature moves, they talk about former Penn State pass-rushers with similar skills. Dennis-Sutton has already signed his letter of intent, but T-Frank asks him what made him sure he wanted to play at Penn State. The high school senior gave a thoughtful answer and explained Penn State's "culture" means to him. Next, they talk about what Dennis-Sutton is doing this spring, and his list of activities is staggering. From track to lifting to working on Penn State's playbook, Dennis-Sutton is busy getting himself ready for life at Penn State. Finally, T-Frank asks the Mcdonough senior about his former teammate, defensive end Mason Robinson. Robinson is unranked by On3 but holds offers from Penn State, Virginia Tech, Pitt, and South Carolina, among others. Finally, they discuss Dennis-Sutton's hobbies and interests off the field. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: http://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Learn more about your ad choices.
