The Scarlet Knights added another playmaking perimeter player in Rasheed Jones. A full-time starter last season at Coastal Carolina, Jones shot 36% from three on high volume. He is an athletic guard who can score in multiple ways. As far as roster construction, this episode deep dives on the clear strengths of this team (FT shooting, TO rate, 3-point shooting depth) as well as major concerns including a mostly one-dimensional backcourt, a lack of depth in the paint and team defense.#rutgersbasketball
The Scarlet Knights added much needed help in the frontcourt with Manhattan forward Will Sydnor committing to the program. He averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds for the Jaspers as a freshman before sitting out last season due to eligibility issues dating back to a high school transcript. Sydnor adds athleticism, physicality and is another player who is efficient scoring at the rim while adding a capable rebounder inside. A full discussion on Sydnor and how the rotation is shaping up now along with impact transfers Darin Smith Jr. and Christian Gurdak. Plus how I think Steve Pikiell should finish out the roster through the portal.#rutgersbasketball
The Scarlet Knights add a second impact portal pickup in consecutive days with 6'10" big man Christian Gurdak. Another offensive first player that brings a specific skill set to RU with his ability to score and rebound at the rim. He has a high motor and has multiple years of eligibility. An analysis of what Gurdak brings to the program as well as my hope for how Steve Pikiell hopefully fills out the rest of the roster.#rutgersbasketball
The Scarlet Knights made its first big pickup of the offseason in adding CCSU Wing Darin Smith Jr. His offensive skill set and length checks multiple boxes for Steve Pikiell as he rebuilds the roster. While Rutgers still needs to add two impact big men from the portal, adding a proven scorer was a step forward.#rutgersbasketball

Rutgers lost to Creighton in Las Vegas.
C-Lo starts with the sounds of the Mets losing in San Francisco. Frank The Tank went off on the Mets while he was on his way home from the Devils game. When he got home he really went crazy. He then went after Tommy Lugauer. We heard audio of Tiger Woods once police arrived to help him. Jack Hughes had a big night. We heard Jerry Recco on the call in Vegas as Rutgers lost to Creighton.

Rami Lavi filled in on the first update of the day, he brings us sound from the Knicks win and Jerry's call of the Rutgers win in Chicago.
The Scarlet Knights live to play another day after upsetting the Golden Gophers in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament. Tariq Francis broke Corey Sanders' B1G tourney single game scoring record with 29 points including 5 of 7 from three. Emmanuel Ogbole was big inside. Darren Buchanan, JMike and Harun Zrno were clutch in the second half as Rutgers was disruptive on defense. Also 22 assists on 25 made field goals proved this team was as connected as they've been all season. RU will face No. 6 UCLA on Thursday night 9 pm ET.#rutgersbasketball

C-Lo starts with the sounds of that Knicks win. We heard our own Jerry Recco on the call as Rutgers beat Maryland by 4 on the road. Matthew Schaefer scored again as the Islanders beat the Panthers. Boomer wanted Nolan McLean to start opening day for the Mets instead of Freddy Peralta.

The Scarlet Knights followed up two straight wins with two dreadful effort games in a 21 point loss at Minnesota and 7 point home loss to Washington. The defensive issues have been glaring all season. The lack of purpose on offense has been maddening as long two's continue to plague efficiency. As a whole, this Rutgers team lacks a true identity and hope is fading for any spirited finish to this season. Also my Twitter account was hacked and I'm receiving texts demanding money to return it. #rutgersbasketball
The Scarlet Knights led wire to wire in Happy Valley to win its first B1G road win and earn its second straight victory. After jumping out to a 18-4 lead with disruptive defense, RU shot 56.6% from the floor in the game. In a season that's been disappointing, Steve Pikiell's team produced its best performance in league play so far. Opportunity continues at Minnesota on Saturday.#rutgersbasketball

C-Lo is in with sounds of All-Star Weekend. There was a weird fight on socials between Darren Rovell & Stefan Bondy for some reason. Plus, Joe Benigno is pretty into the Olympics especially ice dancing. The Olympics runs out of an important product. Plus, Rutgers beats Maryland (with Jerry on the call).
C-Lo's got Jerry on the call as Rutgers beat Maryland. University of Wisconsin Green Bay head coach Doug Gottlieb went nuts at a press conference. St. John's & Providence brawled and we heard John Minko on the call. Gerrit Cole met the media after his first bullpen session. The Moment of The Day: Joe Benigno loves Olympic ice dancing, if you know what I mean.
The Scarlet Knights snapped a seven-game losing streak behind a strong second half performance to beat the Terps on Sunday. Harun Zrno made a trio of shots from behind the arc, Kaden Powers hit some big shots and Tariq Francis was automatic from the foul line. With five winnable games remaining and Keli Zinn promising a competitive NIL budget moving forward, there is some actual hope for this program. Steve Pikeill has a real chance to build much needed momentum if they can string together victories and make the right hard decisions this offseason.#rutgersbasketball
Nebraska gets back on the winning track against Rutgers and the guys start the show by trying to figure out why the game was a 12-point win that felt like a 30-point win. But, more importantly, Rienk Mast came back in a big way, and Jack and Kaleb assessed what it was, beyond not vomiting constantly, that made February Rienk look like November/December Rienk. Beyond that, a deep dive into how Rutgers had perhaps the best ever performance in history of making bad-idea shots by a team that lost by double digits, how Sam Hoiberg tried to equal the level of effort by the entirety of the Scarlet Knights, Pryce and Frager getting to take a break from carrying the offensive load, and Cale Jacobsen's continued evolution. Plus, the Ryan Anderson Memorial (he's not dead) Player of the game is a spit decision, a live reaction to the end of Oregon/Purdue, and setting the scene for what is going to be yet again a wild night Tuesday at PBA when the Boliermakers come to town; it's a game where Nebraska has an opportunity to gain back anything that was lost with its tough last week. The Nebrasketball Hour is proudly sponsored by Nebraska Realty! -On paper, an 11am game at Rutgers on a Saturday doesn't scream “big crowd,” especially with the Scarlet Knights being 9-13 on theseason-However, it actually will be packed AND expensive---because Rutgers is hosting a One Piece Anime promotion, where fans inattendance will get rare trading cards that are valued at $600+ on the secondary market…and the cards are so hot that over $2 millionin value of cards were stolen at Rutgers last week. The Scarlet Knights were very close to a statement victory before letting it slip away down the stretch. Balanced offense and inspired first half defense along with great effort put RU in position to pull the massive upset. But a lack of execution and defensive consistency spelled doom as a four game losing streak has been mostly full of downs. A full review of the past few games, the few positives and many flaws of this team.#rutgersbasketball

The Rutgers Rant is back to discuss where things stand in the transfer portal for the Scarlet Knights, our impressions of the players they have added so far, what's next on the priority list and whether it is time to start worrying about how the roster will shape up when transfer movement is complete. We also look at the men's basketball team, which won two of its three games last week — both at home and in overtime — against Northwestern and Oregon to create some separation from the bottom of the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights earn a second OT win at home in a row as Tariq Francis shined once again, Darren Buchanan came up big and this team's toughness showed up down the stretch. A comeback victory that helped raise the floor of this season with plenty of questions remaining in regard to the team's ceiling.#rutgersbasketball
Illinois basketball improves to 12-3 (3-1 B1G) with an 81-55 win over Rutgers at the State Farm Center. Mike Carpenter reacts during a sloppy second half, where the Scarlet Knights kept pace after trailing by 27 at the break. Nonetheless, Brad Underwood's team continued their run of strong defense, while Keaton Wagler continued his stellar play with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Tomislav Ivisic, Andrej Stojakovic, and Jake Davis each scored in double-digits. Next up: at Iowa for an early 11am tip-off on Sunday morning.

The Scarlet Knights overcame late game adversity to earn its first Big Ten win of the season. Tariq Francis was fantastic followed by many key contributions that led to an opportunistic defense and dominant shooting from the foul line. Overall, Steve Pikiell's team is getting tougher and playing more team basketball than earlier in the season. How much room for improvement remains?#rutgersbasketball

The Scarlet Knights played with little effort or purpose as they suffered the worst loss in this rivalry in a decade. While Harun Zrno, Lino Mark and Kaden Powers showed something, the rest of the team failed miserably. 18 turnovers and abysmal defense along with a puzzling offensive strategy made this one of the worst losses in the Pikiell era. #rutgersbasketball

Schiano has some real insight in this area, after serving as Ohio State's defensive coordinator in 2017 and 2018.
