While the Duke Blue Devils get an earned holiday break, the DBR Podcast crew is still hard at work. On Episode 676, we welcome back Ryan Young to the show for an awesome discussion! Ryan Young has graduated from Fuqua and is in the real world, and we figured it was a great time to catch up with the beloved former center to see what he's been up to since he got his Fuqua degree. He's been able to watch several games in person this season as a fan, so we naturally get his thoughts on the current team, how they've been doing, and how he would have fit in the squad had he possessed one final year of eligibility. We also get into the current state of college basketball, from the transfer portal to growing NIL numbers and how teams are affected. Of course, Ryan has a unique perspective as someone whose career started at Northwestern Wildcats as a freshman with no NIL and no transfer portal and ended with a Duke career with an extra year due to Covid and in a world where the transfer portal and NIL exists. He's very candid with his thoughts on how the game has changed from the player's perspective as well as the coach's perspective, and it's great to that he took the time to provide us with that insight. Make sure you're following us! Head to our Linktree to get all our available social media and links to follow and subscribe to the show. Send us a textThis podcast episode will discuss the Michigan State Spartans' shocking loss to the Northwestern Wildcats in 1979. The Spartans, a strong team led by Magic Johnson, were expected to easily defeat the struggling Wildcats. However, the Spartans played poorly, shooting a season-low 32.8 percent from the field. They were unable to overcome Northwestern's zone defense and reliance on jump shots. The Wildcats, energized by the home crowd, dominated the second half, leading by as many as 15 points. This upset victory left the Spartans questioning themselves and their ability to compete. Magic Johnson, despite scoring 26 points, was left feeling sick to his stomach, expressing his disbelief at the team's repeated losses. The team's struggles highlighted their over-reliance on Magic Johnson to generate offense and revealed internal problems stemming from their recent string of losses. The episode will explore the factors that contributed to this unexpected outcome and its impact on the Spartans' season.Support the showSupport the Pod or Binge the Entire Season Now! https://www.buzzsprout.com/1269236/support https://youtube.com/@IconicSeasons Connect on Social https://www.instagram.com/ncaaiconicseasons/

Michigan football hosts Northwestern this weekend with an excellent chance to secure bowl eligibility. After an improbable eight-win 2023, the Wildcats have fallen to 4-6 with one of the worst offenses in college football. (But old friend AJ Henning is playing well!) And while the defense returned the majority of its contributors from last season, injuries have plagued that side of the ball. Today's Best of Features: (00:00-22:10) – The Dean, Mike Chappell, from CBS4 and FOX59 joins Query & Company on a Monday to share his thoughts on the Colts loss to the Jaguars yesterday. He examines the recent head scratching plays that Adonai Mitchell has made, highlights the lack of a consistent running game as one of the problems offensively yesterday, and states that he doesn't think a change at defensive coordinator wouldn't change much because most of the defensive coaches are disciples of Gus Bradley. (22:10-33:13) – Voice of the Indiana Hoosiers, Don Fischer, joins Jake Query and Jimmy Cook to recap the Indiana Hoosiers win over the Northwestern Wildcats. Don highlights the ability of the Hoosiers to move on to the next play after making a mistake as something that continues to stand out about the maturity of this team. Also, he labels Kurtis Rourke as the best quarterback that the Hoosiers have had since Antwon Randle El was playing for IU.Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/query-and-company/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
(00:00-21:40) – Query & Company opens on a Monday with Jake Query, Jimmy Cook, and producer Eddie Garrison hashing out their thoughts on another Colts loss in Jacksonville. They question the roster construction underneath Chris Ballard, explain why yesterday's loss was concerning, and have a conversation about some of the “business decisions” that Adonai Mitchell has made in the last two games. (21:40-31:39) – After critiquing the Colts in the previous segment, Jake and Jimmy highlight a couple of positives for the Colts. The first being where things are at right now with teams in wild card consideration and then Alec Pierce's ability to make plays when the team needed someone to step up to make plays. (31:39-41:31) – Hour number one concludes with Jake and Jimmy answering Eddie's question about this Colts team in connection to last year. Additionally, they highlight the Indiana Hoosiers becoming the first bowl eligible team and Purdue's struggles continuing. (41:31-1:05:02) – The Dean, Mike Chappell, from CBS4 and FOX59 joins Query & Company on a Monday to share his thoughts on the Colts loss to the Jaguars yesterday. (1:05:02-1:18:17) – Voice of the Indiana Hoosiers, Don Fischer, joins Jake Query and Jimmy Cook to recap the Indiana Hoosiers win over the Northwestern Wildcats. Don highlights the ability of the Hoosiers to move on to the next play after making a mistake as something that continues to stand out about the maturity of this team. Also, he labels Kurtis Rourke as the best quarterback that the Hoosiers have had since Antwon Randle El was playing for IU. (1:18:17-1:27:15) – Hour number two concludes with Jake Query and Jimmy Cook having a serious conversation about the future of Ryan Walters at Purdue. (1:27:15-1:50:38) – Jake Query and Jimmy Cook kick off the final hour the show by rehashing some of their thoughts of the Colts losing, once again, to the Jaguars in Jacksonville. Jake makes a comparison of Joe Flacco starting to someone else stepping up in theatre. Additionally, they have a conversation about whether they believe Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen are tied at the hip. (1:50:38-2:02:14) – For the first time today, Jake and Jimmy answer calls from listeners that are not pleased with the job that Shane Steichen and Chris Ballard have done so far this season. Additionally, they continue to drive the importance of this season being about the development of Anthony Richardson (2:02:14-2:13:04) – Today's show ends with the JCook Plays of the Day and Eddie sharing a couple bets that he likes tonight!Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/query-and-company/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are continuing their Big Ten season previews with Purdue, Northwestern and Michigan State First up we welcome back Bill Bender from the Sporting News to talk about a pair of Big Ten programs, the Northwestern Wildcats and Purdue Boilermakers. David Braun took over a Northwestern's program that was in disarray last season but surprised everyone by winning 8 games and Big Ten Coach of the Year. He will try to improve on that mark in 2024 with a tougher schedule and most home games on Martin Field while Ryan Field is rebuilt over the next two seasons. Ryan Walters is also heading into year two of his Purdue tenure and is looking to move the program forward after a 4-8 campaign in 2023. Next we welcome in Stephen Brooks from SpartanTailgate to talk about the major disruption this Spartans program went through after the abrupt firing of Mel Tucker followed by hiring away Jonathan Smith from Oregon State. We talk about numerous MSU football topics including star transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles, rebuilding the Michigan State offensive line, replacing Derrick Harmon and Simeon Barrow Jr. at defensive tackle and who can step up at wide receiver. As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel!
