Penn State seemingly has their next head coach in Matt Campbell. Poni says this is the best possible outcome for the Nittany Lions. Jeff Brohm is the latest college football coach to stay put instead of going to Happy Valley to become the HC at Penn State. Something else Ben Roethlisberger suggested was Mike Tomlin going to Penn State. After Tomlin was asked about coaching at the college level a few years ago, we can say pretty confidently that this won't happen. Would Tomlin want to do everything that is required to be a college coach? The guys questioned if Tomlin would be as good at recruiting as everyone assumes. James Franklin happily trolled Penn State on X after pulling in a pretty good first recruiting class at Virginia Tech. We are enjoying the fall from grace in real time from State College. In how many years with Ben Roethlisberger did Mike Tomlin make a ‘deep' run in the playoffs? Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike said something just feels different this time with the Steelers in regards to Mike Tomlin being back next season. He referenced the times changing a bit and them going about their business differently the last few years in the off-season. Mike said the Steelers are stuck in a rut with a lot of people making a lot of money. Mike thinks Art Rooney II will sit back on this until he starts noticing more and more empty seats in the stadium because that means dollars lost. He said if he was a season-ticket holder, he would not attend the next home game (MNF 12/15 vs MIA) if they lose in an ugly way to the Ravens on Sunday. Mike thinks it's a complicated reality with coaches thinking about the greener pastures that could be out there. Could Mike see Penn State making a play for Tomlin? Mike talked about the current cycle of coaches in the NFL and another reason why Tomlin might be the hottest candidate out there if he and the Steelers move on. Mike said we don't know for sure that the Giants are interested, but there is some dot-connecting being done.
