What happens when cutting-edge analytics meet old-school competitiveness?Penn State pitching coach Will Jauss has the answer — and it's changing how college baseball develops pitchers. In this exclusive interview, Jauss takes us deep inside the Nittany Lions' pitching laboratory, where numbers meet nuance, and technology fuels transformation. From bullpen sessions wired with TrackMan, Rapsodo, and high-speed video, to in-game decision-making based on release consistency, spin efficiency, and pitch tunneling, Jauss reveals how Penn State blends science, structure, and feel into a unified system for success. But beyond the metrics, he emphasizes what can't be quantified — the mindset, discipline, and daily habits that make great pitchers great.Discover how Penn State's staff teaches its arms to command the moment, not just the strike zone; why command beats velocity every time; and how Jauss is preparing his pitchers to thrive against Big Ten lineups — and beyond. This isn't just a look at baseball's next frontier — it's a masterclass in how data, development, and determination come together to create pitchers built for the modern game.

Seven games and two bye weeks are behind us. Now Ohio State enters the stretch run of its regular season with five games the next five Saturdays. The stretch begins at home against Penn State this week. What can be expected from the Nittany Lions, who showed life in a one-point loss against Iowa on Oct. 18? What do the Buckeyes need to clean up the most if they want to achieve their goals this season? Something Penn State is very aware of is the unprecedented in-season coaching firings we have seen this season in college football. The Nittany Lions have an interim head coach after dismissing James Franklin earlier this month. The latest to bite the dust is Brian Kelly at LSU, who didn't even complete four full seasons in Baton Rouge. Is this a one-year aberration, or might this be how college football looks in most seasons moving forward? Dave Biddle and Dan Rubin also field questions from the live audience and much more. In their weekly Penn State football chat, host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise ponder how meaningful the Nittany Lions results for the rest of the season will be. Will more struggles under interim coach Terry Smith from OC Andy Kotelnicki and DC Jim Knowles further validate James Franklin's firing as coach? Or has the move given the team permission to lose focus on 2025? Do Ethan Grunkemeyer, Kaytron Allen, Dani Dennis-Sutton and Co. have any hope of upsetting Ryan Day and Ohio State or Curt Cignetti and Indiana? Do Matt Rhule's results at Nebraska for the season matter to his candidacy to replace Franklin? Or will Joe Paterno supporters want him to take over the Lions regardless? And what are the chances under-the-radar names like Pat Fitzgerald, Kliff Kingsbury and Matt Campbell emerge as candidates in the search? Our duo tackles those questions and more. On this episode of SFTK, we break down the Nittany Lions' loss, key takeaways from both sides of the ball, and give out our official Quarter 2 grades for the offense and defense. From execution issues to standout performances, we dive deep into the film-style analysis to see where Penn State needs to improve heading into the back half of the season.
In this episode of [Podcast Name], we break down Penn State's heartbreaking 25-24 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium—the Nittany Lions' fourth straight defeat in Iowa City by five points or fewer. Join us as we dissect how the defense, ranked 71st against the run, crumbled in the second half, giving up massive chunks on the ground including a game-changing 67-yard scamper by Iowa QB Mark Gronowski that set up the winning touchdown. Iowa racked up 245 rushing yards at 7.4 yards per carry, exposing ongoing vulnerabilities that have plagued PSU in recent games. We also dive into the two-QB system deployed in the absence of starter Drew Allar, with redshirt freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer getting the nod (15/28 for 93 yards, but two costly INTs) and backup Jaxon Smolik rotating in for key scrambles and option plays— a strategy reminiscent of last season's approach but one that couldn't seal the deal. Plus, the latest on Penn State's head coaching search following James Franklin's firing: Interim coach Terry Smith dropped his debut, but he's emerging as a candidate himself. We discuss top names like Nebraska's Matt Rhule (the early favorite), Texas A&M's Mike Elko, and dark horses such as Alabama's Kalen DeBoer and Missouri's Eli Drinkwitz, as the search enters its second week with no clear frontrunner yet. Tune in for expert analysis, fan reactions, and what this means for Penn State with Ohio State and Indiana looming after the BYE week. We also answer your fan questions! Ohio State went on the road for the second straight week and the Buckeyes did their job again, bringing home a 34-0 shutout victory over the Wisconsin Badgers. There was a time not too long ago when a win by that score on the road would have been considered an amazing accomplishment, but with the Badgers' fortunes the last couple of years, it left some OSU fans wanting more.A shutout in college football against a power conference team on the road isn't easy, so kudos to Matt Patricia's defense. Ohio State's offense stopped itself a few times, and Wisconsin hung tough for a while against the run, but ultimately the game ended up being a comfortable road victory for the men of the Scarlet & Gray.We discussed the key moments, plays, and players in the game, checked on our final score predictions, and perused the stats page to see if we picked the right players to click on Saturday. We went a combined three out of four, so not too bad.Following our Wisconsin rewind, we looked around the rest of the Big Ten to see how other teams made out in Week 8. Penn State lost a tight one at Iowa in the Nittany Lions' first game in the post-James Franklin era. It was not an aerial battle, with both teams doing damage on the ground. Minnesota, Indiana, Oregon, and Northwestern had comfortable wins. Michigan pulled away from Washington in the second half, UCLA nipped Maryland to keep the Bruins' resurgent run going, and USC lost on the road to a non-conference rival. We also looked ahead to a great slate of games during Ohio State's second bye week of the 2025 season. There is plenty of intrigue in Illinois at Washington and Minnesota at Iowa, while the two teams from the Mitten State play for the Paul Bunyan Trophy. Nebraska looks to bounce back against Northwestern. Rutgers faces a must-win situation to keep bowl eligibility on the table, while Wisconsin seems primed to suffer another beatdown. UCLA is going to have to raise its level to get past Indiana on the road.Without an Ohio State game to preview, that's our show. We spent a little more time on the other games around the Big Ten this week, so you're definitely not getting short-changed. We'll be back next week to preview Penn State and check on the bye week Big Ten fallout. We would love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email at SilverBulletsPod@gmail.com Any questions directed toward us will be answered on our next show.Be sure to subscribe, rate, review, share, and follow the show over on Twitter at @SilvrBulletsPod.As always, thanks for listening!0:20 - The Buckeyes were better than the Badgers, and Julian Sayin continues to be good at football.22:07 - The Big Ten was full of interesting games, especially that Penn State-Iowa tussle at Kinnick Stadium. We also have a lot of intriguing games that will have us flipping between multiple channels on Saturday.
