POPULARITY
Between the depth of her voice, substance of her songwriting, and seemingly endless list of awards and achievements, you might be fooled into thinking that Mikalyn has been in the game for decades. But that's easily forgiven, as despite having yet to hit her 20s, the artist's signature alt-pop stylings bely her age and blur lines between genres and eras, making her music all the more compelling. She obviously takes great pride in her output, showcasing a skillful approach to arrangement and production with a keen attention to detail. She's also an in-demand collaborator, having lent her unmistakable vocals to elevate tracks from Machine Drivers, Öwnboss & Zerky, Röde, 39 Kingdom, and others in just 2019 alone. With a one-of-a-kind style and unwavering drive, Mikalyn shows no signs of slowing down on her already-impressive trajectory. Her song Sleepless Nights streamed over 650 k in 4 months of release. In 2021 she will make a bold move away from her EDM success with over 2.7 M streams and into alt pop and indie with a string of strong releases that will leverage and build off her EDM roots. Let's listen and enjoy the music and stories from these singer-songwriters, musicians, and vocalists. We've got four talented artists lined up today: MoeDeLL Jordan White Kylie Odetta Mikalyn Hay Interview with MoeDell We'll start this show with MoeDeLL -- a hardworking and talented man that holds 250-270 shows a year. He has performed for crowds of every size, from farmers' markets to bars, and corporate events. MoeDeLL is a prolific Americana songwriter. He plays the guitar and will captivate you with his unique voice and creative lyrics. He loved music as a kid and he started to learn to play the guitar at 9 years old. He writes great pop-rock songs that really cut to the heart. He has a good voice and a great chord structure. Every time he comes up with something new I am plugging in and listening, I have become a fan... He's been on the dHarmic evolution twice. Let's look back on the conversation where Jordan is describing some transitional period in his life which led to the recording of the track being featured today. The song is Jordan's title track for his new EP, “High Road”. She also mentioned one of her favorite shows that created a cozy welcoming experience where people get to be a part of the music and it's not just her who performs on stage. Winnipeg singer-songwriter Monika Wall started out singing opera before moving into a career as a singer-songwriter. Her second album, the E.P. "Earth" was released late in 2018, the first of four albums in a series (Earth, Wind, Water, Fire) exploring true happiness. With influences that range from folk to jazz to gospel blues, the new recording has an inspirational quality. Reflecting on the fact that life can feel short, and individual moments often fleeting, the songs on the album focus on the need for us all to develop a deeper and more sustainable connection to the world around us, and the earth beneath our feet - in the hope that we can leave behind a meaningful legacy for the generations to come. Earth was recorded with Juno-awarding producer Murray Pulver (Crash Test Dummies, Doc Walker). Monika Wall will be touring the new E.P. in Ontario in February with London vocal trio The Pairs and including stops in Guelph (Red Brick Cafe, Feb 8 with Mikalyn Hay), London (London Music Club Feb 9 with Marty Kolls), Toronto (The Painted Lady, Feb 10 with Darling Cora) and Ottawa (The Avant Garde, Feb 11 with Laura Gagnon). We caught up with Monika Wall at home in Winnipeg to chat about her music. For more information visit http://monikawall.com. Music: Monika Wall "Let It Flow", "Moments" and "We Will Rise" from "Earth" (2018, Self).
