We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2020 conversation with Linda Perry. ABOUT LINDA PERRYSinger, songwriter, musician, producer, and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Linda Perry first made her mark as an artist, serving as lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the group 4 Non Blondes, which is best known for the Top 15 pop hit “What's Up?” Following a couple of solo albums, Linda emerged as a powerhouse songwriter and producer thanks to her work on P!nk's multiplatinum Misundaztood album. The debut single, “Get The Party Started,” which Linda wrote solo, was a global smash. She followed it up with another solo-written composition, “Beautiful,” which became a chart-topping ballad for Christina Aguilera that earned a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year. Subsequent chart success came with Gwen Stefani's debut solo single “What You Waiting For,” Alicia Keys's “Superwoman,” Ariana Grande's debut single “Put Your Hearts Up,” Miley Cyrus's “Hands of Love,” and additional singles for Aguilera, including the Top 10 hits “Hurt” and “Keeps Gettin' Better.” Recently, Linda collaborated with Dolly Parton on the soundtrack of the film Dumplin', including the song “Girl in the Movies,” which was nominated for both a Golden Globe and a Grammy award. Linda is a four-time Grammy nominee, including a 2019 nomination for Producer of the Year, making her the only solo female producer to ever earn a nomination for their work producing other artists. The long list of artists Linda has produced, collaborated with, or had her songs covered by include Adele, Courtney Love, Cheap Trick, Faith Hill, Britney Spears, KT Tunstall, Weezer, Pat Benetar, Solange, L.P., Joan Jett, The Chicks, Vanessa Carlton, Celine Dion, Elvis Costello, and Lady Gaga. In addition to her prolific songwriting and production activities, Perry is a multi-faceted music industry entrepreneur, having worked as a music publisher, manager, or mentor with artists such as James Blunt, Dorothy, and Natasha Bedingfield.

A group of 70 female chefs and hospitality professionals have signed an open letter calling out what they call the ‘pervasive' sexism in British kitchens. It's in response to chef Jason Atherton saying he had never seen sexism in the kitchen - he has since clarified his comments, saying that he wasn't denying the existence of sexism, just that he hadn't 'witnessed it personally. Anita is joined by chef and founder of the all-female kitchen Darjeeling Express, Asma Khan, and chef and founder of Tiella, Dara Klein, who helped write the open letter. The beloved 1995 film Clueless, inspired by Jane Austen's Emma, starred Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, and the late Brittany Murphy. Cher Horowitz is the most popular student at Beverly Hills High, renowned for her unique talent at finding love for others. Clueless the Musical has just opened at the Trafalgar Theatre in London. Anita discusses the adaptation and the story's enduring appeal with the original writer/director Amy Heckerling and multi-platinum singer-songwriter KT Tunstall who has written the score.Montage of clips from the 1995 movie, Clueless, written and directed by Amy Heckerling, produced by Scott Rudin and Robert Lawrence, production companies Robert Lawrence Productions, Scott Rudin Productions and distributed by Paramount Pictures.Amelia Price, a survivor of rape and assault by her ex-partner, has launched her own investigation into the Scottish justice system. Despite her attacker being convicted and sentenced to over four years in prison, the court refused to impose a non-harassment order (NHO) against him. With his release imminent, Price fears he could legally contact her. She has waived her anonymity to raise awareness about the issue and advocate for mandatory NHOs in domestic abuse cases. Anita speaks to her about her campaign alongside Fiona McMullen from ASSIST, a domestic abuse advocacy service. 'Sen-betweeners' is the term Lisa Lloyd, a mum of two autistic children, uses to describe her children. She says their neurodivergence is too severe to fit easily into mainstream school, but not severe enough for a special school, so they fall between the gaps. Lisa has written a guide for other parents on ‘Raising the Sen-betweeners,' in which she, whilst recognising that all children are different and there can be no rules, offers tips and advice for how to handle behaviours. Lisa joins Anita to share what she has learnt.Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Claire Fox

The madness comes in for a landing with this, the tenth episode of Regarding Roger. Masters of Digression Chaz and Wolfie go all out in this drain-bamaged diversionary listen-through of the epic classic rock radio track Eclipse, the last track on Dark Side of the Moon. Redux follows suit, and thus we conclude the heavy lifting of season two, listening to Dark Side of The Moon Redux for the listener, so the listener doesn't have to. Join our hosts as they meander through Spotify rankings of Pink Floyd versus so many other artists we forget how many are covered. Chaz raves on and on about Live From Daryl's House, the internet show of Daryl Hall, and convinces Wolfie to get hooked in with Daryl and his friends like Smokey Robinson, Sammy Hagar, Allen Stone, Fitz and the Tantrums, Tommy Shaw, Rick Nielson, Kenny Loggins, CeeLo Greene, Darius Rucker, Train, Rob Thomas, Joe Walsh, Howard Jones, Chromeo, KT Tunstall, Ben Folds, Grace Potter, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Toots and the Maytals, Nick Lowe, the Bacon Brothers…and so many more. Wax nostalgic with Chaz about having Kyra Sedgwick walk across his blanket at a Bacon Brothers concert. Ah, the memories. And yes, we get back to listening to the redux version of Eclipse. We wrap up this listen season with comparisons to season one, what Lulu had going for it that Dark Side of the Moon Redux did not. If there had been more coverage, better press, more content, and greater context shared by the artist would it have been better received? If Roger hadn't tried to sing, if he hadn't added poetry and voiceovers, would it still be something you can listen to? The main question persists…why Roger, why? When the hosts start pining for the improvisational stylings of Metallica and Lou Reed, you know it's about time to wrap it up. Rather, the guys draw it out, going further out on a Rocket to Uranus than they ever have before. New heights in digressionary diversion and pointless nonsense, this episode really captures the essence of our final adjudication of Dark Side of the Moon Redux. Hearing Eclipse delivered with a James Hetfield staccato is worth the price of admission alone. We wrap it up with a bow – here's the message: life ain't all dark. That's the big epiphany of this album – that and we've determined that the answer to life, the universe and everything really is 42. Thanks, Roger, here's your towel. Now…what would Daryl do? Roger – listen to Daryl, he is the king of Redux. Find out for yourself – tune in at Live From Daryl's House.

Welcome back to The New Exchange podcast and to very the beginning of season 7. I am beyond excited to share these talks with you, starting with a guest I've been dying to have on here for a long time. Seye Adelekan is a Nigerian-British artist who's toured with Lana Del Rey, Emeli Sandé, KT Tunstall, and Paloma Faith; though he is best known as a prominent live member of Gorillaz's touring party. I first saw Seye onstage at Governors Ball way back in 2014, performing alongside Damon Albarn. Since then, I've been a fan, and seeing his growth as an artist over the years has been something special. Along with being an in-demand touring musician, Seye has also started to release his own solo music. His latest songs have so far explored various shades of human emotions, while also being draped with this tone of intimacy and expansiveness that speaks to his years of experience as an artist. On this premiere episode of the podcast, Seye shares with me his experiences of finding refuge in creativity amidst navigating sobriety, embracing his cultural roots, and also what happens when you start believing in yourself.

After years of admiring KT Tunstall's gifts as a songwriter and storyteller, I finally got to sit with the rocker Live at 30A Songwriters Festival in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. KT shared what the process has been like of writing the music for the stage adaptation of Clueless The Musical, the experience of overnight success in the mid-2000s, and her unforgettable debut at Madison Square Garden opening up for Hall & Oates right before COVID-19. Music with changes or accents that fall on something other than the most predictable beats is said to be syncopated. I discuss this in episode 148 of the Guitar Music Theory podcast. Listen to song examples from Neil Young, KT Tunstall, Herbie Hancock, Adele, and more.
This is an Encore Presentation of my interview with Gilbert O'Sullivan, the International Superstar who burst upon the musical scene in 1972 with his massive hit “Alone Again (Naturally)” which occupied the #1 spot in the U.S. for six weeks and was nominated for two GRAMMYS. He followed this up with two more huge hits, “Clair” and “Get Down”. In a thoughtful, sensitive and introspective interview, Gilbert talks about songwriting, the music business, the influence of The Beatles, Dylan, Stephen Foster and Irving Berlin on his music, and his relationship with his manager Gordon Mills and Gordon's daughter Clair. We also discuss his album Driven and the single “Take Love” with KT Tunstall. My featured song in this episode is “1972” from the album Trippin' by my band Project Grand Slam. "Face To Face" Although she got her start behind the drum kit playing for her dad's band, the Detroit-born Suzi Quatro taught herself how to play bass so she could be in her sister's band, The Pleasure Seekers. She moved to England at 21 and released a string of rather massive albums like her 1973 self-titled debut and the searing Your Mamma Won't Like Me in 1975. A pioneering presence in the pop world, Quatro influenced everyone from Joan Jett to Chrissie Hynde to the Talking Heads' Tina Weymouth. A global superstar with over 50 million albums sold, Quatro's CV is a wealth of riches. Here are just a few of her highlights: She toured with Slade and Thin Lizzy, headlined the 'Girls Night Out' at the Isle of Wight Festival, won a handful of Bravo Otto awards, appeared on Happy Days as rocker Leather Tuscadero, was awarded the Icon Award by the Women's International Music Network, was inducted to the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame, received an honorary doctorate in music from Anglia Ruskin University and appeared as Annie Oakley in a London production of Annie Get Your Gun and friends. The singer/songwriter is a stone cold legend and her music is filled with melodic muscle and harmonic smarts. Her new album, a joint effort with Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall is an instant classic. Titled Face To Face, it's a stirring song cycle that's reflective, confessional, tough and tender and catchy as hell. It's a perfect album that's an end to end delight. www.suziquatro.com www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) Stereo Embers www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.embersarts.com Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast

This "Paltrocast" features interview with award-winning singer/songwriter KT Tunstall and "Sorry We're Closed" producers Chef Elizabeth Falkner and director Peter Ferriero. Theme song by Steve Schiltz.
Suzi Quatro grew up in Detroit in a very musical family. It was, at the age of six, after seeing Elvis perform on television that made Suzi decide music was to be her life. She's also an actor, poet, has a new album called 'Face to Face' with KT Tunstall, is on tour...and she once broke Alice Cooper's nose. Shortly after they got married, the best-selling author Amy McCulloch and her new husband headed to South America for a six-month backpacking adventure. Then, one night, Amy heard that a cabin had suddenly become available on a ship heading to the Antarctic. She was desperate to take it. He wanted to stay. This thrilling real story was the spark for the inspiration behind her new book 'Midnight'. Picture the scene...Sheffield in the mid-nineties. Two cheeky teenage lads sitting together in the school canteen tucking into burger and chips for lunch or maybe a bacon sandwich. Since then, Henry Firth and Ian Theasby are the plant-based chefs behind the hugely successful “BOSH!” and whose new cookbook 'Meat' sees them make bacon from bananas and chicken from peas. All that plus The Inheritance Tracks of journalist, broadcaster and BBC Explainer–in-Chief, Ros Atkins - and we join Nicky Dorrington ...In Nature. On this episode of his podcast Chris welcomes back singer-songwriter KT Tunstall. When Chris last spoke with KT two years ago, her future as a musician looked bleak, given she was suffering from severe hearing loss. But KT returns with a hugely positive story - cutting edge technology has allowed her to regain her hearing, and with that the ability to perform and record to her very best. Along with this remarkable update, the conversation also touches upon KT's delight at working collaboratively within musical theatre, her love of humorist Ivor Cutler and the delightful Japanese art of Kintsugi.
"Sonically good without the sonic soul is crap!" Michael talked about why it's the emotional stuff, not the technical stuff that makes a great mix, how to understand multi-bus mix compression, why plugins are fun, and mixing in Atmos on headphones. Get access to FREE mixing mini-course: https://MixMasterBundle.com My guest today is Michael Brauer a Grammy-winning New York mix engineer. His many credits include "Best Pop Vocal Album" for John Mayer's Continuum, "Best Alternative Album" for Coldplay's Parachutes, and also "Best Rock Album" for Coldplay's "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends". Other artists include The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Jeff Buckley, David Byrne, Paul McCartney, Ben Folds, KT Tunstall, and Martha Wainwright. He also invented the technique known as 'Brauerizing', in which mixes are routed through multiple compressors and busses to create a blended sound. And he is a co-founder of Mix With The Masters which has been running for over a decade. Michael has been a guest on the show previously to talk about his background in music and mixing so please chack out that episode at RSR300. And at that time he had relocated outside the heart of the city in NY to settle into his home studio for mixing. He also completed his journey of migrating his mix template over from a hybrid setup to a full “in the box” method with the help of his engineer Fernando Reyes. Michael created a fantastic course on Puremix.net called Brauerize ITB to teach his mixing setup so you can recreate the whole thing in your home studio if you choose. So I am excited to have Michael joining us to talk about his philosophy of mixing and the migration over to mixing “in the box”. In 2004, KT Tunstall was a last minute addition to an episode of Later...With Jools Holland. Her performance of "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" launched her career sky high, as she blew away the television audience with her inventive loop pedal rendition of this brand new song. The song was SO new and the demand for it was SO high, in fact, that the Jools Holland performance was featured on the first 10,000 copies of her debut album Eye To The Telescope because the studio version was not yet finished. In this episode, she breaks down the writing, recording, release, and legacy of this beloved hit single.
