Buddy Guy put out an album in 1991 called Damn Right I Got The Blues. The song sounds like so much of a form of catharsis. However, blues can also represent a form of celebration. There's pre-war country blues, jump blues, swamp blues.... There's blues styles from Chicago, Texas, Louisiana and other American regions. The blues is not one thing. It's old...it's contemporary. It's relaxed...it's heart pumping. It has old and young practitioners. It has iconic practitioners and some bloke playing it at your local pub. Welcome to episode 169 of Love That Album. Obviously, the most famous blues musicians are those from the US and from the UK. Here in Australia, however, there's been a long tradition of musicians who've devoted themselves to the blues, be it through the pre-war stylings of The Paramount Trio, the Chicago style of Collard Greens and Gravy or....the hard-boogie style of Carson. Blues lovers here believe that there is something uniquely Australian about how blues is performed here....tyranny of distance making it gritty or something like that. In 2019, artist and blues lover Pauline Bailey took it upon herself to record an oral history of Australian blues by speaking to a plethora (as Max Crawdaddy would have it) of musicians about their connection to local blues music. In 2023, Pauline has just released Volume 4 of these incredible books with no intention of stopping. Many are well known (Diesel, Jeff Lang, Ross Wilson, Mal Eastick, Mike Rudd), some not so much......all have fascinating stories to tell about how music came into their lives, how they've pursued it, and where it took them. These books are an invaluable resource into a side of Australian music history not previously tackled. The books even feature chapters devoted to some past LTA guests (Shane Pacey, Charles Jenkins, Anthony Shortte, Sarah Carroll, and Chris Wilson). My huge thanks to Pauline for joining me to discuss her work and her devotion to the music and stylists she's immortalised in print. Band It About - Proudly Supporting Live Music "Podcast Series"
S3 E1 Mark Snoad is a South Australian-born Hohner Harmonica player who despite having played from a young age, didn't actually join his first official band (AP D'Antonio and the Captain Kidd Band) until 2019. Mark began carrying his harmonica in his pocket and taking any opportunity to jump up and play at a party, at a jam, or with a band during the late 70s, managing to play often at the Ramsgate Hotel with Dr. Zen and the Interns. Mark has played with many musicians and bands here in Adelaide including; The Rock Doctor's, Tongue in Cheek, The Zensationals, Satisfaction - The Stones Show, Gwyn Ashton, Chris Finnen, and Gail Page. Since joining The Captain Kidd Band, Mark has also joined the YouBlues Band and Don't Tell Joe. Mark began to take playing the harmonica more seriously around 10 years ago after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, and we discuss how playing the harmonica is good for physical and mental health during this interview. Music therapy provides an effective treatment approach to improve motor function, balance, freezing of gait, gait speed, and mental health in patients with Parkinson's disease. This accessible instrument is an excellent tool for strengthening the diaphragm, increasing lung capacity and breath control, and improving respiratory functioning related to swallowing. All of these benefits directly relate to symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Mark plays a HOHNER Special 20 Harmonica, uses a Fender Blues Junior Amp, and an Astatic Harmonica Microphone that was once owned by Australian multi-instrumentalist Broderick Smith! Music: intro "Band It About" theme song, written and recorded for the BAND IT ABOUT - Podcast Series by Catherine Lambert and Michael Bryant. Outro: "I'll Be Gone" written by Spectrum guitarist and vocalist Mike Rudd. Mark is playing the harmonica in this audio which was recorded during this year's Adelaide Fringe Festival 'A Rock Legends Show', held at Norwood Live, February 2022. In this episode, Rob and Neil chat to Australian Music Legend, Mike Rudd and as part of Regional Roundup, head to Mildura to catch up with Katrina Umback.
This episode is on Spectrum and their No.1 smash hit, I'll Be Gone. Spectrum formed in Melbourne in 1969 with Mike Rudd providing vocals, guitar and harmonica, Bill Putt on Bass, Drummer Mark Kennedy & Lee Neal playing Keyboards. One of the highlights of the episode is the original demo for I'll Be Gone, and it's quite different to the song that we now know and love. We also take a look at Spectrum's alter ego band, The Indelible Murtceps – and yes, cleverly Murtceps is Spectrum spelt backwards. Our special guest is Spectrum's (and the Murtceps) Mike Rudd.
Spectrum are an iconic band from the 1970's, that has continued to make great music into the 2000's and beyond. The band is best known for their classic No.1 hit single, I'll Be Gone and it is a song that continues to be ranked amongst the "Best Aussie Songs of All Time" lists. Our special guest is Spectrum's Mike Rudd and this episode takes a look at his song Xavier Rudd is Not My Son. Its a great tune and it's sure to give you a laugh.

"We can expect Tax Freedom Day to move later in future years."LISTEN ABOVE

A big thanks to Mike Rudd of Hutchison Media and Marketing Fun with Mike for asking me to be a guest speaker at the August Marketing Mastery Club. The club meets monthly, and this month he covered for the group blogs, vlogs, and podcasting. One important takeaway I felt is worth noting is the similarities all three mediums have with each other. I think Amy Landino covered it well in her vlog Mike presented. 1) If you are going to put all this work into your blog/vlog/podcast, ask for their attention - to subscribe, for feedback, to share! 2) Consistency in everything. Not just how often, or when you publish. Your brand, cover art, content, your promise to the subscriber, your promise to your audience. 3) The content you create is for someone else. Make sure your listener/viewer/reader wants to share the content you create. https://www.marketingfunwithmike.com/ (https://www.marketingfunwithmike.com/) https://hutchisonmedia.com/ (https://hutchisonmedia.com/) https://youtu.be/DbO-7yqn5BI (https://youtu.be/DbO-7yqn5BI) Be sure to sign up for my free daily email newsletter at http://www.circle270media.com (www.circle270media.com).
