The tremendous Amy Seeley is back and this time the subject is right in her wheelhouse: COMEDY. We talk the legendary work of the absurdly brilliant Monty Python, whose "Flying Circus" and subsequent movies dominated the 70s. We talk our favorite performers, favorite sketches, favorite lines, and favorite movies. We also get into a discussion of their influence, and talk a bit about comedy in general. It's a most excellent 90 minutes, so strap in for something completely different! TUNE IN!
Sorry for the even more delay in episodes, but here we are - talking about The Life of Brian. It would be impossible not to mention the controversy surrounding this film, to the point a Beatle had to create a film studio to save it (George Harrison, we love you). We discuss the fact that Gender Identity was raised in this film, as well as the accidental Messiah, the legend of Pontias Pilate, the foiled final rescue, what satire is supposed to be, the ongoing legacy, and I last dig at co-worker Lisa. Only the true podcast listener will deny it's enjoyability... sorry, tried to adapt a quote there.

Please…sit. And welcome to the Church of Apocalypse Video. I'm your host and pastor, Dave, and joining me are fellow mistaken Messiah's Mike and Ryan. Today, we will be reading from the Book of Python. Chapter 19, Verse 79: Life of Brian. Topics of discussion in this sermon include how hype-trains can often kill a classic (especially comedies); we trace a ton of modern comedy tropes back to the Python's; and finally, we wonder why the Python's thought lisps and cross dressing were the zenith of comedy. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Follow Us on Twitter, Like Us on Facebook, or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com That'll do it for the second station of Apocalypse Video's Jesusary. When we return, we will be dropping the comedy and putting on our serious faces as Martin Scorsese regales us with the story of The Last Temptation of Christ.

We decided that this week we will digg deeper into the question asked from the famous scene from the movie "The Life Of Brian". Trump's landslide win redraws electoral map, shatters Democratic strongholds It was the equivalent of a political earthquake. Former President Donald Trump's historic White House win reverberated Wednesday through Washington and the nation after an astonishing comeback that upended political expectations, pollsters and the party elite. One day after the election, Mr. Trump's shocking, likely sweep of battleground states and unexpected popular vote victory over Vice President Kamala Harris became more evident. It showed that his triumph rattled down the ballot, helping Republicans capture the Senate and putting them on track to hold on to the House. The Republican Party, largely... View Article

Mick's picked one of her all-time favourites this week: 1979's Life of Brian. And she's not alone in loving this funny AF biting commentary about the danger of mass movements and the inherent weakness of any faith or ideology that eschews critical thinking, which still regularly tops ‘best comedy film' lists. But do Hannah and Jen feel the same? Does the Pythons controversial at the time satire stand the test of time? And is Mick still legally bound to Michael Palin? Find out! Dana and Tom with new guests Heather Stewart (@heatherjstewart) and Ryan Luis Rodriguez (One Track Mind podcast, Reels of Justice podcast) discuss the religious comedy, Life of Brian (1979): directed by Terry Jones, written by Monty Python, starring Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, and Eric Idle.Plot Summary: Ah, splendid! Picture this, if you will: the bustling streets of ancient Judea, a land rife with political turmoil, religious fervor, and the occasional stoning. Into this chaos, on the very same night as a certain well-known savior, is born a rather unremarkable chap named Brian Cohen. Now, Brian, through no fault of his own, is continuously mistaken for the Messiah. This hapless fellow bumbles his way through a series of increasingly ludicrous adventures. From joining the People's Front of Judea (not to be confused with the Judean People's Front—splitters!) to unintentionally starting his own religious movement, Brian's life is a whirlwind of mistaken identity, misunderstandings, and the utterly absurd. As if that weren't enough, he's pursued by Roman centurions, swooned over by fanatical followers, and lectured by his domineering mother ("He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!"). All this, while Brian desperately tries to carve out a normal life in a world that seems determined to turn him into something he most definitely is not.So, in essence, dear friends, "Life of Brian" is a satirical romp through history, skewering sacred cows and poking fun at the foibles of humanity with the kind of irreverent wit and cheekiness that only Monty Python can deliver.
Everyone's at maximum freakout in the leadup to World Happiness Dance, whatever that is, and nobody can figure out who's going with who -- especially with the addition of two new students, Delia and Cory, shaking up the social circles. Adding to the confusion: We're getting Brian's inner monologue instead of Angela's! What's going on???? And why is Graham so determined to wallpaper the bedroom instead of dealing with those cooking classes?Helping me break it all down is Trevor McMahan from the YouTube channel Media Processing; as well as Sharon Johnson and Susan Lambert Hatem from the podcast 80s TV Ladies. Also: We'll be taking a two-week break from posting new episodes while I travel to Toronto for Pride (join me at the Toronto Public Library on June 12!) and we'll be back with regular episodes on June 17.

John Wilson talks to actor, comedian, broadcaster and writer Sir Michael Palin. A founding member of the hugely influential comedy troupe Monty Python's Flying Circus, he wrote and performed in its five television series and three feature films including The Life Of Brian. Other big screen credits include A Fish Called Wanda, Brazil, The Missionary and The Death of Stalin. Michael is also a globetrotting documentary presenter and bestselling author.Michael recalls the early influence of listening to radio comedy as a child, especially the absurdist humour of The Goon Show devised by Spike Milligan. Meeting Terry Jones at Oxford University in 1962 proved to be a life-changing event as the two soon started working on sketches together and after graduating were hired for David Frost's satirical television show The Frost Report. It was on this programme that the duo first worked with future Python members John Cleese, Graham Chapman and Eric Idle. Starring in Alan Bleasdale's 1991 ground breaking television drama GBH allowed Michael a departure from comedy but also set the bar high for future acting roles which he increasingly forwent in favour of writing and presenting documentaries, including a particular favourite about the Danish Painter Vilhelm Hammershøi.Producer: Edwina PitmanArchive :A Fish Called Wanda, Charles Crichton, 1988 Take It From Here, BBC Light Programme, 1954 The Goon Show, The Man Who Never Was, BBC Light Programme, 1958 Comic Roots, BBC1, 1983 That Was The Week That Was, BBC, 1963 The Frost Report, BBC1, 1966 Do Not Adjust Your Set, ITV, 1967 Monty Python's Flying Circus, BBC1, 1969-1970 The Meaning of Life, Terry Jones, 1983 Friday Night, Saturday Morning, BBC2, 1979 The Life of Brian, Terry Jones, 1979 GBH, Alan Bleasdale, Channel 4, 1991 The Death of Stalin, Armando Iannucci, 2017 Michael Palin and the Mystery of Hammershøi, BBC4, 2008

Comedy is a genre that we haven't dove much into over the almost 3 years of the shows existence. So we, along with special guest Wyatt of @CinemaTripReviews , decided why not dive into one that's celebrating it's 45 anniversary and brought on a lot of controversy over its life and that is MONTY PYTHON'S LIFE OF BRIAN. A comedy that looks at the story of Jesus Christ, or more someone who was born the same day and went through an almost identical journey, except Brian's was on accident. As we look at this movie, we also try to answer if the movie should still be considered controversial all these years later or if it ever should've been in the first place. Lets look at the bright side of life and explore the LIFE OF BRIAN. #MovieReview #DissectThatFilm #montypython #lifeofbrian Promo: @bucketofchumpodcast CHECK OUT WYATT AND CINEMA TRIP REVIEWS: https://linktr.ee/cinematripreviews INTRO BY JASON OF BINGE MOVIES Track: Infraction- A.I. Listeners of Cinema on Tap - we must apologize for the truly unhinged episode you are about to listen to, where two beer Christian and sober Scott discuss life, the Oscar nominations, and the Lord Himself - Jesus. We're back to discuss a new film that has just hit theaters, The Book of Clarence, as well as a comedy staple, Monty Python's Life of Brian. These are rather...different depictions of Jesus than what we're used to, so sit back and get ready for a bumpy - and holy - ride! This is our annual holiday spectacular, with great guests, True Tales From Weirdsville and, of course, hours and hours of Christmas songs and holiday games. Not really. Kliph Nesteroff is here. Kliph is a fantastic writer who has been here before discussing his books, The Comedians and We Had A Little Real Estate Problem. He is here to talk about his spectacular and, in my opinion, mandatory reading new book, Outrageous, A History Of Showbiz and the Culture Wars. It's one of my top five books of this year, just phenomenal and I'm really excited for you to hear him talk about it. Also, actor Steven Weber is here. You know Steven from Wings, the TV miniseries The Shining, Chicago Hope and so much more. He is also a hilarious guy, a monster kid, and a terrific storyteller, so happy to have finally nabbed him to be on. Steven Weber is here. True Tales From Weirdsville takes the idea of no good deed going unpunished to a whole new level, it's the making of Monty Python's Life Of Brian.
